I remember one comment on YouTube under the original track. There was a theory that 'The Lost Elf' summarizes the love of Lavellan and Solas, how they “speak” through the melody: she is the violin, and he is the cello.
Yet now it’s slightly different; if you listen closely, you’ll hear that the violin sounds strong, happy and melodic, while in the original, it was broken, miserable, and thin.
The cello solo sets up the narrative, but at the climax, you can finally hear the violin. They 'sing' together in perfect harmony, almost indistinguishable from one another.
I love how music deepens our understanding of the storyline, guiding us further and revealing delicate nuances that add richness and depth to their story.
It’s canon now, it’s their theme.
Also I love how in the beggining Lavellan knew only a few words in Ancient Elven, at the end of the Tresspasser she can form full sentences, and now she speaks Elven fluently. It's a unique thing only for them. She speaks his language, because she knows how important it's to him. Elgar'nan speaks in Common language, yes, because of the Blight, but still. Even Mythal and Solas, in their final conversation, do not speak in Elven.
Lavellan is the only one who accepts him unconditionally. She forgives him when he cannot forgive himself, holds him when he needs it most, and ultimately, she is the one who saves him.
This is the extraordinary journey we’ve been fortunate enough to witness.
Ten years is a long time, but their love will last forever.

That night, leaving Ellana in Crestwood required all of Solas’ willpower, and if he had lingered next to her for another moment, if he’d let her touch him just once more… he would probably have let everything go and give in into his feelings for her.
Ever since that night, he knew nothing would be the same. It was the point of no return and he should keep his distance from the inquisitor. And so it was for a few days, until a last-minute expedition came up, and the ones that would go with the choosen of Andraste were Dorian, the Iron Bull and Solas, who was true to his word and would continue helping her prepare for the final battle against Corypheus, despite how painful and difficult it could be. And it was.
A group of Venatori ambushed the party on their way to Adamant fortress, leaving them rather injured, with no potions and barely able to move around. Without a second thought, Dorian hurried to assist the now Tal-Vashoth, with whom he appeared to have a more than friendly relationship for a couple weeks now. The situation, left Ellana and her warrior strength wit no other choice but to help Solas walk.
And so, they both allowed themselves to linger so close to each other for one last time, having the perfect excuse to touch once again. The mage’s arm around the girl’s shoulder, while she held him by the waist to have a better grip, in case he was about to fall; his leg was injured and he seemed quite weak.
As if it was a silent agreement between the two of them, they slowly walked towards the inquisition camp, stretching time as much as they could and prolonging their contact as if it was their las moment together. Ellana enjoyed Solas’ scent, which reminded her of her childhood spent in the woods, but also of the kisses they shared. Meanwhile, he enjoyed feeling her in his arms once again. When they arrived to the camp, they might have lingered like that more than necessary; the inquisitor insisted on taking him to the medical tent, and he didn’t argue.
Dorian was the first one who noticed the sudden change of attitude when both elves’ exchanged gazes. The inquisitor began to avoid walking through the rotunda where Solas usually was, and when she did, they greeted each other with a rather cold demeanor. Both of their glances seemed sad. When she turned her back or when she wasn’t looking, the mage’s eyes lingered on Ellana with nostalgia and longing countenance. Sometimes, it seemed as if the tears that were about to fall from her eyes would remain there forever. As the good friend Dorian was, more often than not, he tried to take her for a walk or sometimes to the tavern in Skyhold, but not before throwing a disproving look towards the elven mage, who was causing the inquisitor so much pain.
Solas’ thoughts were almost a nightmare during those final days. He felt guilty for letting his feelings and desire take over him, and the bitterness that his plans brought along, made his heart harden and his words cold, so methodic and distant when he spoke with the inquisitor, trying not to use her name, much less call her vhenan, to set distance between them.
Uncertainty began to invade Ellana’s mind, without knowing what would happen after defeating Corypheus, what might come next or any future plans. She was still in love with Solas, and she knew he shared her feelings, even though he was good at hiding them, but there was something she could never decipher, at least not in that moment. And it must be something so but and important that would make him end it all and walk away like he did.
Solas became distant, but he also began to frequent Skyhold’s tavern at night to have supper. He only shared the inquisitor’s table when other companions were around, and Cole used to be their secret accomplice when they lingered for a little while after dinner, even when the rest of their friends already left. The lad used his abilities to get into their minds and discovered that, if he was still there, they would have a valid excuse to stay together for a little while. Nevertheless, those nights always came to an end when either Cole or someone else retired for the night, and wo Solas and Ellana’s glances crossed for one last time, their presence wouldn’t linger more than necessary.
They silently said goodbye and one last thought lingered on their minds and hearts: maybe in another world…
Author’s note: This is the final parto of this fanfic. Sorry it took so long to upload the final chapter, I had so many things to finish at work, my studies, and then took a small vacation. But not it’s done. I hope you liked it.
I enjoy the Solavellan romance so muc, even if it break my heart everytime I play the game. There’s just something really appealing to it, and... well, I suppose you feel the same if you’re reading this.

Everything changed since that kiss in the fade. Although Solas decided to avoid the topic, and the inquisitor respected his decision by avoiding deliberate physical contact, the flirtations continued. And it was mutual; it was something neither of them made an effort to avoid. Perhaps because they didn’t want to give it much thought, or simply because they knew in the end, they would give into the temptation of being together.
That encounter in the balcony meant quite the change; for Ellana, it was a victory over the sexual and romantic tension between them, and for Solas, a fracture in his determination to atone for his past mistakes, but at the same time, it was something he didn’t have the strength to resist, even knowing it would be better on the long run. And so, he gave in to her, to her passionate kisses and accepted his own feelings.
Since that moment, their thoughts remained in constant connection, thinking about each other; something they both considered somehow natural: Solas trying to focus on his readings, thoughts and plans, and the inquisitor sneaking into his mind, for better and for worse; thinking about her, thinking about the peace that being with her brought him, as well as the guilt and pain he felt when he remembered his plans, which would made it impossible to remain by her side… or perhaps… a possibility that his thoughts persisted in making possible.
As for her, inquisitor Lavellan’s thoughts lingered on Solas, particularly during the missions he didn’t attend, when she felt lonely, or even when her mind, unconsciously, reached out for him before falling asleep, hoping for another date in the fade.
And when they were both in the party for a mission, their exchange of looks was constant, with complicity and reckoning.
Their glances lingered on each other unconsciously. Solas’ eyes searched for her constantly in the battlefield, worried about Ellana’s underlying mortality. Looking at her with tenderness when she made fair decisions, and with pride when she put someone mean, taking advantage of all the chaos, in their place. His eyes betrayed him, showing how much he cared for her, and it was obvious to anyone who saw them closely.
Ellana constantly glanced at the elven mage, not only when the fought red templars, demons or bandits, but also when they were walking or talking with the rest of the group, with a feeling of comradeship that brought warmth to her heat. There were times when her eyes lingered on Solas for more than necessary, and when she realized it, she tried to act distractedly, as if nothing had happened. In reality, everyone among the inquisitor’s inner circle noticed it. It was an open secret shared by the companions and advisors.
On one occasion, the contact between Ellana’s hands and Solas’ ears and cheeks lingered a little too much, when they were both sitting in a cozy corner in their camp at Emprisse du Lion, waiting for Blackwall and Iron Bull, who had gone looking for something to hunt and more firewood, leaving the two elves guarding the camp.
Maybe the hunting preys were scarce that day, or Iron Bull and Blackwall decided to take the long road, but the alone time spent between Sollas an Ellana seemed to last for hours, talking about everything and nothing, her younger years with clan Lavellan and the tales she heard every night by the campfire. They were both talking while, unknowingly, were getting physically closer. At some point, the girl decided to close the space between them and playfully touch Solas’ ears, who felt a shiver run down his spine after feeling her contact, barely able to silence a soft moan, while she looked at him tenderly, and kept telling him about her adventures with her clan. Both of their legs were constantly touching and she mad small imaginary figures between his ears and nape, leaving a sensation that would linger during the whole time they were both alone, and the mage’s memory for the rest of his life.
On some occasions, instead of camping in the middle of the woods or outdoors, the party decided to sleep in an inn, just like certain night, when Cole, Sera and Solas were the chosen ones to accompany the inquisitor to Redcliff. During dinner time, Sera’s eye caught the attention of a girl, and then she proceeded to disappear for a couple hours, while Cole went to bed early, giving his roommate the opportunity to dare to visit Ellana’s room, despite de protest that his more rational side constantly demanded of him. After a while, he suddenly realized he was lingering too much in her room, alone with her, but despite the constant temptation, they both enjoyed their mutual company. Time passed quickly, as if there were only a couple minutes, but it was already very late at night when Solas decided to go back to his room, and ran into Sera on the hall, who was finally going back to her room.
“So, did you do the do with her, or what?” she smirked.
“I beg your pardon?!” he was rather offended for the implications of her comment, although he also knew the situation lent itself to misunderstandings.
“Oh, come on! Even you would know that I mean. I hooked up with that girl to let you two have some alone time together… “
“I… “ he was speechless for a moment.
“Well, I hope it was worth it, because for me, it totally was” and then she burst into a loud laugh, which resounded in the hall and probably woke up some of the people staying in the inn.
“I was a perfect gentleman, if you must know. And now, I must say good night”
And after saying that, Solas walked back to his shared room with Cole, wondering I he lingered with Ellana more than he should have. For how much longer could he maintain his determination and focus?
