the shrill beep of his phone alarm jolted janghyuk from a deep sleep, his body still heavy with the kind of exhaustion that only came from back-to-back dance rehearsals. he groaned, rubbing his face as he sat up, the dim light of the dressing room filtering through his half-lidded eyes. it took him a second to remember where he wasβsome vacant room heβd slipped into during a break, desperate for a power nap to recharge. the lynk con prep was no joke, and originβs routines were brutal even for him.
his fingers fumbled for his phone to silence the alarm, but as his vision cleared, he froze. there was a figure by the door, her back to him, tugging at the handle with a quiet determination. his brain was still foggy, but the silhouette was unmistakableβshoulder-length dark hair, the way she carried herself. his breath caught. kyunghee? the name hit him like a punch to the gut, and suddenly he was wide awake, the sleep clinging to him like a bad dream.
she hadnβt turned around yet, and for a wild second, he considered pretending to still be asleep, just to delay the inevitable. but the way she was yanking at the door, the frustration in her movements. and then it clicked: the room was locked from the outside. they were stuck. his lips twitched, half from amusement, half from the absurdity of it all. of course, after all this time, the universe would throw them together like this.
he cleared his throat, the sound deliberate, and watched as she stiffened, her shoulders tensing before she turned slowly to face him. the years had done nothing to dull the sharpness of her features. βwell,β he said, his voice rough with sleep but already laced with that easy charm of his, βthis is something.β the words hung between them, light but loaded, the weight of a decade of history pressing down on the moment. βof all the dressing rooms in all the world, right?β he rubbed the back of his neck, suddenly hyper-aware of how he must lookβrumpled, half-asleep, probably with a crease on his cheek from the pillow. βguess we shouldβve known better than to trust these old locks. or maybe the universe just has a sense of humor.β
rose practically bounced into the studio, his energy barely contained despite the dark circles under his eyes betraying a night spent burning the candle at both ends. heβd been running on fumes since yesterday, but the thrill of the unknown had him wide awake. he hadnβt even had time to glance at the pairing list, so this was all a delightful surprise.
his eyes landed on junseo, and his grin widened. he strided over with the confidence of someone meeting an old friend, extending a hand for a firm shake. βjunseo-ssi, right?β he said, his voice warm. βrose. or janghyuk, if weβre being formal.β he gestured to the chair across from him with a sweep of his free hand. βcome on, take a seat. letβs get comfortable.β
once they were both settled, rose leaned forward slightly, elbows on the table. he took in the setupβthe familiar props, the unfamiliar onesβwith a curious tilt of his head. βhonestly, i had no idea who iβd be paired with today. too busy last night to even check,β he admitted with a laugh. βbut iβve got a good feeling about this.β
the bright and wholesome energy that rose brings on the table would have been contagious if junseo himself was more of an extrovert that could absorb or mirror said energy β instead, he tries his best to emulate said energy though in comparison it's dialed down in almost tenfolds. still, the hiraeth leader tries to keep up with his assigned partner of the day to keep the mood in high tension energy.
he reaches out to mirror the firm handshake that was offered, stating "please, feel free to call as just 'junseo'." a polite smile follows his words as he then takes a seat that faces in opposite to the other man.
"the list came out in advanced so i had to check and do my research up-" the man laughs sheepishly, admitting into his habits of learning someone or a group and looking into their content before interacting out with them. there's a couple of things junseo had learned: he's older than rose but he did debut much later than he is, he's also acted in a few dramas that junseo has watched in his free time or when he needs entertainment while eating and right now he learns that this man is really friendly.
"you'll have to look after me, sunbaenim," he modestly remarks with a sheepish smile that follows. the staff then announces that they will start filming soon and they can do whatever they want as long as they keep the interactions rolling. at the point of the cue, junseo puts on his idol persona and with his prior hosting experience, he starts. "should we introduce ourselves and which group we're from to viewers who might be watching this and wonder who we are, sunbaenim?"
roseβs grin only widened at junseoβs admission, the energy between them already shifting into something easier, more natural. βwow, junseo, you really did your homework,β he said with an impressed laugh, leaning back in his chair just enough to take the other man in. βi shouldβve known better than to expect anything less from hiraethβs leader.β there was a warmth in his tone, a genuine appreciation for the effort junseo had put in, even if rose himself had rolled in blind.
he turned slightly toward the camera, his usual charisma flaring to life as he gestured between them. βfor everyone watching, iβm roseβoriginβs golden maknae. and this is junseo, hiraethβs leader and, apparently, the king of pre-show prep.β he winked at the camera before glancing back at junseo, his expression softening just a touch. βand donβt worry, hoobae, iβll look after you. promise.β
he settled back in his chair, his gaze flicking to the cat ears on the tableβheβd noticed them earlier but hadnβt mentioned it yet. βoh, those cat ears! iβve done one of these beforeβitβs a reaction game. the ears pick up on your heart rate or something, and youβve got to keep a straight face no matter what.β he held one up with a grin. βwe should try it, see who cracks first.β he placed the ears on his own head, adjusting them with a laugh. βhiraeth fans, origin fansβyouβre in for a treat.β

After almost ten years, the crescendo of sounds bursting from every direction on a photoshoot set was no longer as overwhelming and distracting as it had been when Yujin had been a teenager. Rather than diverting all of his energy into zoning out the bustle of the production team around the set, leaving only a placid expression on his face that the post production team still managed to make look good, he could now easily focus on posing and following the requests of the photographer without much distraction. It was easy now, with a knowledge of all the best angles and glances and ways to drape himself across the set and props that made the photographer shower compliments.
He and Janghyuk were seated at a table, side by side. The food was laid down for them to interact with, and Yujin picked up a macaron to helicopter through the air into Janghyuk's mouth. The photographer shot a few photos before putting the camera down. Can the two of you lean in closer to each other? Just look into each other's eyes!
Yujin put down the snack in his hand and nodded, turning to Janghyuk with a smile. He leaned in close, so much so their noses almost touched and he could have probably counted every eyelash on the younger member's eyes. "Is this okay?"
the moment yujin leaned in, janghyukβs breath hitched. the sudden proximity, the warmth of yujinβs breath against his faceβit was all too much, too fast. his fingers twitched at his sides, his usual easy grin faltering as his mind raced. this is for the photoshoot. this is just for the photoshoot. but the way yujinβs eyes locked onto his, the way his voice dropped to that low, familiar toneβit felt like something else entirely.
he forced himself to keep his expression neutral, though his cheeks burned. βy-yeah, itβsβitβs fine,β he managed, his voice barely above a stutter. internally, he was a mess. why does it have to be this close? why does he have to smell so good? why does this feel like the first time and the hundredth time all at once? he shifted slightly, trying to put just a fraction more space between them without making it obvious. βuh, how long do we have toββ his voice cracked, and he cleared his throat. βhow long do we need to hold this?β
the photographerβs request for eye contact was the final straw. he could feel the heat creeping up his neck, his usual confidence evaporating under yujinβs gaze. this is just a photoshoot. this is just a photoshoot. but the way yujin was looking at himβlike he was the only thing in the roomβmade it impossible to remember that. his fingers curled into his palms, nails biting into his skin as a distraction.

interviews and content shooting aren't normally too hard for junseo especially when he is the leader of the group so naturally he has his hand in memorizing and providing answers based on script or even by impromptus. today's content in particular comes with unfamiliarity since he would not be working with his members or anyone from the same label as he is, but rather with a member of origin and someone of different companies.
junseo himself isn't entirely unfamiliar with origin, having once interviewed them a couple of times during their seventh mini album comeback period back in 2020 when he was still a music show host so at least he was able to tell apart the members' faces and names. his partner for the day is someone that goes by the stage name of 'rose', which junseo thinks is cool ( and since he's always wanted a stage name himself but find that it didn't fit too well for him ). there were a couple of other things he knows of the man, mostly from searching up lynkprofile and other related contents while he was on his way to the recording venue.
upon his arrival and a quick last minute make up check. he takes a sit on the small round table while his eyes scans at the familiar props he has seen before in hiraeth's content but others that remained unfamiliar. when the senior idol makes an appearance, he greets the other man in friendly yet formal terms.
