the moment yujin leaned in, janghyukās breath hitched. the sudden proximity, the warmth of yujinās breath against his faceāit was all too much, too fast. his fingers twitched at his sides, his usual easy grin faltering as his mind raced. this is for the photoshoot. this is just for the photoshoot. but the way yujinās eyes locked onto his, the way his voice dropped to that low, familiar toneāit felt like something else entirely.
he forced himself to keep his expression neutral, though his cheeks burned. āy-yeah, itāsāitās fine,ā he managed, his voice barely above a stutter. internally, he was a mess. why does it have to be this close? why does he have to smell so good? why does this feel like the first time and the hundredth time all at once? he shifted slightly, trying to put just a fraction more space between them without making it obvious. āuh, how long do we have toāā his voice cracked, and he cleared his throat. āhow long do we need to hold this?ā
the photographerās request for eye contact was the final straw. he could feel the heat creeping up his neck, his usual confidence evaporating under yujinās gaze. this is just a photoshoot. this is just a photoshoot. but the way yujin was looking at himālike he was the only thing in the roomāmade it impossible to remember that. his fingers curled into his palms, nails biting into his skin as a distraction.
he was acutely aware of every point of contact, every breath, every second that stretched between them. the irony wasnāt lost on himāhere he was, the groupās resident social butterfly, completely unraveled by the one person he couldnāt seem to be casual around. just get through this. just get through this, and then you can go back to pretending this doesnāt affect you.
The sound of the photographerās instructions and the clicking of the camera shutter became like background music. Yujin tilted his head just slightly, angling so more of his face can be captured by the camera. His eyes locked into Janghyukās, blinking slowly. His lips parted slightly as he concentrated. It was easy to focus on Janghyuk, on the fan of his lashes across his cheek when he blinked, on the curve of his nose, on the dark brown of his eyes.
āJust until theyāre happy with the pictures.ā Yujin didnāt think it would take that long. The photographers loved their faces, but they also loved having options to post as behind the scenes content after the concept pictures had been officially released.
The photographer shouted out additional instructions. For Yujin to shift in his seat, for Janghyuk to smile for a moment, for direct eye contact. There was a blush on Janghyukās cheeks, something off.
And there, in the corner of Yujinās field of vision, the slight tremble, the way Janghyukās fists clenched. A sign of nerves so unlike his golden maknae, an anxiousness that was out of character yet still endearing. Even ten years later, even Janghyuk could be nervous at a shoot. The corner of Yujinās lips curled up in a comforting, fond smile. Hidden behind the table, Yujin silently dropped the rings the stylists had given him off his hands and into his lap. He reached out, thin fingers curling around Janghyukās wrists, bare from accessories under the stylistsā discretion, and trailed down to wrap around his clenched fists. He rubbed his thumbs against the back of Janghyukās hands. āItās okay,ā he murmured, voice soft and soothing. āJust look at me. Youāre doing amazing.ā
