Not my typical post per se, but let's talk about SP, STANCES ASIDE;
I KNOW...a lot of people already given their opinions on the topic but I should be allowed to do so too... </3
First and foremost, YES this is a very stressful situations REGARDLESS of your origins and types, hell even if you are a singlet who was using the app to track your yumeships or ocs. Doesn't matter who or how one uses it at this point, everyone is hurt and stressed out, and that's valid.
Second, do not spread misinformation about SP developer, especially about how they had a team of devs to begin with???? Don't get me wrong, we weren't a FIRST DAY follower of SP, we joined around May 3rd 2023, but used it early as of 2022? as that's when we had our system discovery-- But since day one, and until now, it always HAVE been a solo developer, and have NEVER announced a team of devs before.
Coming from someone who was (and still is) very upset about everything that happened, we come to slowly realized the situation that Amaryllis is in and empathize with them. It's not easy to carry an app all by yourself, let alone as big as SP. A simple search for the word 'EU' in the server, will give you a rough idea why certain things can't be what you want or wish for. And when you are reading/listening to the messages that's placed by mods and users, try to put your dislike, hate and emotions aside, do not let that cloud the whole entire screen.
I am, of course, not justifying any deletion of messages that happened within the discord server itself, whether that'd be by Amaryllis themselves or just the mods team in general. I will say though, they should have made a channel specifically for people to ask for alternatives. Cuz realistically, no one wants to join plural hub or any other social servers, just to ask for alternatives apps/webs. People should have been allowed to discussed about it within the SP server itself.
Yes, we know, it's a support server for the app, but people are gonna panic, because some have used the app since its existence, have a lot of documentation, and that'll take time to transfer everything, if importing doesn't work for alternatives apps/webs, people would need to do it by hands.. So, of course, it feels good for people to find the said alternatives first, see how they like it and then, they can start transferring everything from sp to whatever alternative they like.
But realistically, no one has been able to find that good alternative, because,
Could still be in development
Doesn't have the same Ui as SP
Can't handle more than 50 profiles
Doesn't have friends list, aka fully offline
Isn't available in certain devices
Lacking of things that may be important to a plural
And the list goes on honestly. It's a harsh realization that everyone is going through, cuz SP has been something everyone used to since their system discovery, like us. To have a friends list, that's able to notify those you added on who's fronting is nice. But of course, having the app or web fully offline, means privacy is way better, which is very good, but you also kinda want that friends list too. Without an AI website to rely on..
But yeah this is a long ramble, I am glad that Amaryllis has agreed upon letting users to self host, even when they went through so much harassment and hate from the plural community. And I do hope someone or Amaryllis will be able to give a step by step on how to self host SP, cuz we be dumb when it comes to this- We tried to self host Sheep the bot..and yeah..that didn't go well-
I do hope nothing but the best for Amaryllis and Atlas, the mental toll that they both went through is, just horrible, and I wish everyone who's working on their own alternatives the best as well! Coding isn't easy, especially when you are gonna make it public to everyone!
