"I- That's- It- How?!"

"It was bombed! How the hell is it here?!"

"You've gotta be shitting me."

"Like I know?! Probably got dropped here like Jasmine Dragon was."

"An entire city?!"

"Do you have any other ideas?"

Three shockingly similar voices could be heard, seemingly unaware or uncaring of attracting undead attention.

(OOC: Hiya, @three-leons-in-a-trenchcoat here. Saw you pop up recently, so I decided to yeet my Leons at ya)

Leon runs with all his might, faster than he can breathe, jumping over obstacles. He sincerely hated physical education classes, especially the team games. But now it's a matter of survival. Otherwise, Mr. X will crush his head like an eggshell.

He skids on a turn, and to avoid breaking his leg, he throws it forward and slides sideways right into the wall. He falls not so much from distraction, but from the three shadows looming in the neon blue light where he intended to hide from the tyrant. Enormous and unusual silhouettes in the turquoise of the dim light on the wall, as ominous as the color from the further depths of other world.

"…Huh." The shortest of the three blinked, not showing any hostility, "I don't know what I was expecting, to be honest."

"It's Raccoon City," The second tallest replied as he fumbled for a flashlight, as if the mere statement explained everything, "of course there's a version of us going through this hellhole."

The tallest of them - a figure who dwarfed even Mr. X - hummed, leaning forward slightly like he was studying Leon, "No uniform… Has he even made it to RPD yet?"

The words were muttered, obviously only meant for himself, but easily heard otherwise. They all spoke in a voice that was eerily familiar, of course it would be, as it was Leon's own.

As the flashlight flickered in the darkness, Leon barely managed to keep from screaming, gasping for breath and dropping his heart somewhere while running. He can only see the creatures' outlines through the condensation on his glasses. They're enormous, especially the one staring at him.

Are they intelligent? Unlike Mr. X, they speak. Leon carefully reaches out to remove his glasses and wipe them with his sleeve.

These three creatures are human hybrids, each taller than the next, each with ditigrade legs, hair, face, and voice... His voice?

One of them had chitinous scales and spikes, another had faintly luminescent horns and leathery, membranous wings, and the third was enormous and covered in crystalline growths.

"Who are you?"

Leon exhaled, throwing his head back. The lantern's glow from below made their heads look genuinely ominous. It was difficult to recognize himself in them, only their voices, inexorably and persistently, pushed the thought. Their diction varied, and the first, due to the structure of his jaw, didn't even attempt to speak. They all had tails that moved nervously despite their weight. Leon froze, looking at their claws and the barbs on their tails, legs, and arms.

Goji sputtered looking ready to argue, but the shortest gave him a look. The taller man sighed, backing off with an apologetic wince.

"Sorry about that," The shortest sighed, tail poking Goji for emphasis as he explained, "this guy forgets how tall he is… somehow."

"Like you're any better?! How many doorframes have you hit your head on again?" The tallest man replied, sounding offended without any true heat behind it.

The second tallest groaned, head landing on his free hand with an audible noise as his wings curled in on him slightly, "Fucking children I swear-"

"You're not better!" The duo replied instantly, before immediately going back to arguing with each other.

The second tallest had a look on his face, one that screamed "why do I live with this?"

"You asked who we were, right?" The demonic looking man questioned gently, well, as gently as he could anyway, "Well… Before I answer that, let me ask you something:

Leon waved awkwardly back, smiling hesitantly.

"Oh no, you didn't scare me at all."

The awkwardness grew. Leon nervously scratched the back of his head, ruffling his red hair, and chuckled briefly.

"It's probably not every day you meet yourself three times in one."

Leon turned around, but neither he nor the kaiju saw anything. Perhaps Mr. X likes to be alone with his victims, or maybe he knows how to assess the risk of getting punched in the face. Either way, he's not there. Only the deathly blackness of the dank corridors.

"I don't think he'll just leave us alone..."

Leon searched for his flashlight, but he'd dropped it while running.

How many of them were there? Was it possible that Mr. X had found another Leon somewhere right now? How did these three know about parallel worlds? Was this not their first trip? Can they choose worlds arbitrarily? Why is the multiverse spitting all the Leons out of one universe and into another? Did he do something terrible that caused such a series of global cataclysms? What's the maximum number of his versions possible? What happens next? A multi-world collapse?

"I suppose we need to find survivors?"

Leon suggests hesitantly. It's very dangerous here, and perhaps there are survivors who need help. They need to find Claire and her brother. He tilts his head up to look at his companions. Their facial expressions are similar, despite all the diversity of their structures.

"Fuckin' Umbrella," The older blond hissed, thagomizer tipped tail slamming against a nearby street lamp. The metal post groaned, snapping like a twig under the force of the hit, "bastards deserved every bad thing that happened to them."

The others made noises of agreement, looking similarly angry.

Viper's snake-like tongue darted out, flicking in the air before disappearing back into his mouth. His face scrunched up in disgust as he said, "Oh geeze, I forgot how bad this place stank. I think X fucked off for now, but that asshole's a pain to track on a good day."

Devi walked over to Leon, the cold night air chilling further as he approached, "You've got questions, I know we sure as hell did when we got told this."

The half-devil's movements were slow and careful, not wanting to spook the poor man. Although he couldn't help staring at the glaring differences between him and them… well, how they looked before their mutations anyway.

But if they've been here, do they know what's likely to happen here? Why are they here? What kind of anomaly is happening to all four of them?

Leon ponders this somewhere in the back of his mind, somewhere in that corner that agonizes over escaping this nightmare into outer space.

"14 people?"

Leon asks again, dreading that number. That's the total destruction of a city with a population of one hundred thousand.

"Can... Can we save more?"

Leon asks Devi cautiously and stammered. He looks at his face, struggling with a growing suspicion. No matter how crazy the world each of them came from, they were human, and something irreversible had happened to them. Their anatomical differences make it difficult to pinpoint their exact ages, but they were all of different ages, each one older than the next.

When the streetlamp screeched and creaked painfully, collapsing on the muddy asphalt, the infected began to flock to them like moths to a light.

Can they fix it now?

Goji stepped over carefully, patting the younger man's shoulder gently, "Luckily for you, you've got help now."

"Have you been to RPD yet?" Devi asked, glancing at Leon's attire, his voice growing somber as he continued, "There's… There's two officers still alive in there, one of them was already bitten before I got there, the other…"

He shuddered at the memory, even after years of fighting BOWs, that particular death haunted him.

"…You definitely don't want to know." He decided, wanting to preserve some form of the man's innocence. He didn't need to know about the hell that Raccoon truly was, nor the horrors of the undead.

As the zombies began to swarm, Goji cursed under his breath, snarling at the infected like a rabid dog.

"We don't have time for this!" He hissed, his dorsal plates lighting up bright blue.

Crack.

One of the plates near the tip of his tail suddenly extended, shooting up several inches from its original height.

Crack. Crack. Crack.

More plates extended, moving up the kaiju gestalt's back as electric bolts zipped between them.

Goji reeled his top half back, audibly breathing in as his eyes and mouth blazed a glowing blue. Before-

Shunk!

The plates stabbed back into position simultaneously, Goji throwing his head forward as a beam of sapphire atomic energy erupted from his mouth. The blast cut through the hoard viciously, exploding and sending the undead back to the grave they belonged in.

Devi and Viper moved, charging at the hoard as the latter drew his gun, tail arched over his head like an enormous scorpion as he opened fire. The zombies that got too close were swiftly impaled, the bone-like stinger punching straight through their bodies like wet paper.

The ex-cop's jaws split wide open, a deep roar-like rumble coming from him. Threats like that didn't always work, sadly, but it was still worth trying.

Can he stand idly by in this carnage?

No, he can't. Leon knows there are two living people in the station right now who need help. Kennedy rushes to the police station, just a couple of blocks away. He glances back at the triplets as they deal with the disorderly and bloody crowd that is gathering toward them.

The police station is surrounded by barricades of burning cars; he barely manages to run past all the infected, periodically jumping over car hoods or sliding not-so-gracefully through them.

The police station is coffin silence, ominous quietly. No one is there, only disfigured and mutilated corpses, snapped or crushed. It's not hard to guess that Mr. X could have done this; only his hands could crack a skull like a nutshell.

A chill runs down his spine and the hairs on the back of his head stand on end when he hears a familiar, heavy gait, comparable only to the sound of a pistol’s burst somewhere very far away. Leon rushes away from Mr. X. Any door he can't squeeze through—he needs to find those two survivors. But the more he runs, the closer Mr. X gets, and he's not at all exhausted by running through the maze of rooms and corridors of the police station.

The beam was cut after several seconds, smoke billowing from his mouth as he clicked his tongue, "Damnit-!"

"Viper! Devi! I'm going after him!" He shouted to the duo, not staying to listen for their reply.

It was a terrible idea for Leon to run off like that, Goji could tell the man hadn't gone down the route of a police officer. The fact he was still alive was a miracle in-of itself.

For once he was grateful for his mutations, enhanced speed and smell were coming in handy as he raced to find the wayward man.

"Leon?!" He shouted as he burst into RPD, ignoring his gnawing guilt upon seeing the goddess statue again, "Leon are you here-?!"

He stopped dead in his tracks as he spotted the dead bodies, skulls cracked and caved in like fucked up watermelons. A cold dread filled him at the sight; this… he hadn't seen this when he'd gotten here originally. Even still, there was only one thing that could do this: the goddamn Tyrant.

He forced himself not to look at the dead, terrified he might recognize them. A furious hiss escaped him, tail lashing as he followed his nose. Leon's scent was fresh, so the man had to be here.

But so was the Tyrant's.

The sound of the BOW's footsteps only made him more furious, moving with cat-like grace as he followed the sound.

While Mr. X tries to regain visibility, Leon runs away and throws a hand grenade—he's never done that before. But now it's a matter of survival. This attack angers Mr. X even more. He waves his hand and smashes through the wall, causing it to partially collapse on him.

"Oh, Jesus..."

Leon laughs crookedly and nervously, hiding from Mr. X. He sits on the floor, behind a cabinet, breathing raggedly, unable to catch his breath. Of course, he knows Mr. X will crawl out from under the rubble. But that will take some time. For now, he's survived, and his head hasn't been torn off like a boiled shrimp.

He hears Godji and rises to his feet. Leon quickly shakes off the cement dust and starts running towards him.

"Godji, I'm so glad to see you!"

Leon runs out very quickly, almost crashing into him. He stops and adjusts his glasses, which have slipped down due to inertia.

"Sorry for leaving you..."

Leon wants to speak, but all the words dissolve into letters. He exhales and deflates.

He was careful as he held the man, claws barely ghosting over his clothes. The kaiju gestalt was pleasantly warm, like hugging a living furnace. Although one that was in an extremely protective mood at the moment.

He glared in the direction Leon had come from, daring the pale bastard to show its face. The tip of his tail curled in the air, thagomizer waving dangerously.

"X… was sent here to do this." He explained somberly, his voice filled with sorrow and sympathy for the man, "Umbrella sent him to kill off everyone in RPD; no loose ends, just the way those bastards like it."

He bit his lip, comforting people wasn't exactly his strong suit, "I… I'm sorry we couldn't get to them in time, maybe if… if we hadn't slowed you down then…"

He wanted to fall asleep in his arms and wake up like a nightmare. He'd wake up with Star licking his nose and Huey snoring at his feet.

"Ugh, sorry..."

Surfacing a bout of panic, Leon steeled himself and was immediately embarrassed by the wave of cowardice that washed over him. He pulled back awkwardly and cringed, realizing he shouldn't have been crying. Especially not now and here. He shouldn't have put this burden on Goji.

"No, no. It's not your fault. Please, it's my fault.”

He awkwardly bites his cheek and gently hugs Goji, unobtrusively, lifting him slightly up on his toes. It's much harder for him, Viper, and Devi. They were here, and because of him, they're forced to relive what traumatized them. He needed to save those two, but he was slow, even though Goji, Devi, and Viper helped him and protected him from Mr. X and the infected. But he couldn't.

"Thank you for being there. We tried to save them and did everything we could. He was here long before we arrived. All these people died violently at his hands. Whatever this creature is, it's a killer. There were survivors here, and they showed no signs of infection. I've walked this entire area, looking for anyone…"

Leon exhales and releases Goji. He used to console his children, or rather, his students, like that. When he was interning at the school. He was supposed to be the science teacher here, and this was his first day at Raccoon City High School.

"We can't be discouraged. There are people here who need our help."

He thumbed in the direction Leon had come from, "That thing? It's called a Tyrant, designed and cloned by Umbrella to be sold and used as BOWs - Bio-Organic Weapons. There's… a lot more where he came from, and a lot worse."

He wasn't telling him the whole story, obviously. He didn't want the man to know what those worse things were, Raccoon City was bad enough - the T-Virus was bad enough.

But at the same time… the man needed to know. He needed a heads-up, some sort of warning about what nightmares awaited him - awaited them, because there was no way in hell Goji was letting him go through this alone.

He sighed, giving the man a hesitant look, "I… I know what's waiting for you, if things go the same way they did for me 'n Devi. If you want me to… I'll tell you."

He's not fearless and perhaps not at all brave, but he will fight the sticky, paralyzing horror that overtakes him every time he takes a step forward. Leon cannot lose to this nightmare, no matter how close he comes to losing to the impenetrable, bloody desperation here.

Umbrella is responsible for everything that happens here. He met the Tyrant Mr. X, he saw the infected and strange creatures in the darkness, skinless and eyeless. Everything here, the entire city, became a testing ground in an instant. Leon knows and saw how they abused dogs during his internship. Just as he saw the symptoms of the virus in the infected during lectures in the morgue.

Leon feels like he's also involved in this. He was writing mathematical models and calculation programs when he was about to hand in his final project. He never finished it, just like he never finished the internship, which he abandoned and ran away from. But he's involved, he's partly responsible for this, too.

Why? Why was it suddenly necessary to destroy an entire city in such a twisted manner?

Did Umbrella also have something to do with Godzi becoming like this? Or not? Devi? Viper?

He'd like to know everything, so he can fix it and help.

"Tell me everything you can."

Leon says this in a low tones, not daring to hurt Goji any more, seeing how hard it is for him to tell all this, how the horror from the past is once again dragging him with its long, lean, clawed paws to the bottom of this nightmare. He hears his intonation falter, the tip of his tail fidgeting, and the shimmer of crystalline growths.

Insomnia

❝ Can’t sleep again… do you ever feel like your brain just won’t let you rest? ❞

❝ It’s 3 a.m. and I swear the walls are whispering my name. ❞

❝ Another sleepless night. I think I’m starting to forget what normal feels like. ❞

❝ I’ve counted sheep, read books, stared at the ceiling… nothing works. ❞

❝ You awake too? Maybe insomnia is contagious. ❞

Groggy Mornings

❝ Don’t talk to me before coffee. Actually… don’t talk to me at all. ❞

❝ How is it morning already? I feel like I just closed my eyes. ❞

❝ I think I slept with my eyes open again. ❞

❝ Why does the world insist on being awake while I’m still half-dead? ❞

❝ I’m running on three hours of sleep and too much caffeine. Help me. ❞

Late-night Wandering

❝ I shouldn’t be awake, but here I am… wandering the streets like a zombie. ❞

❝ Why do my thoughts sound louder at night? ❞

❝ I can’t stop pacing… maybe someone should stop me before I go insane. ❞

❝ The world is quiet at night… except in my head. ❞

❝ I don’t even remember what it’s like to just sleep. ❞

Coffee & Desperation

❝ I need caffeine… yesterday. ❞

❝ Don’t judge me for three cups before 9 a.m. I need survival tactics. ❞

❝ I may be awake, but I’m definitely not functioning. ❞

❝ You feel that? That’s me vibrating from too much energy and too little sleep. ❞

❝ Coffee is my lifeline… don’t take it away. ❞

Bed & Chaos

❝ I think I just slept in the wrong position… my body hates me. ❞

❝ Half my blankets are on the floor, but I can’t bother moving. ❞

❝ I just fell asleep sitting up… should I be proud or worried? ❞

❝ My alarm went off an hour ago. I’m still not moving. ❞

Mind Racing

❝ Why am I thinking about that moment from ten years ago? At 2 a.m.? ❞

❝ I can’t sleep because my brain decided to rewatch every embarrassing thing I’ve ever done. ❞

❝ Sleep would be nice… if only my thoughts would stop arguing. ❞

❝ My imagination refuses to shut off. Can someone hit “pause” for me? ❞

❝ I’m wide awake and it’s entirely the fault of my overthinking. ❞
