Sketchy Lines and Mood Swings

Hi Anon, I'm not really a big shipper for RE characters. I mainly just appreciate characters individually. But I do ship Leon with an OC that my friends created, and I like Jarlos/Valenveira and Jake x Sherry.

I guess not being into romantic ships that much comes with age lol. If I'd be younger, I'd be shipping left and right lol.

I tend to focus on friendships and familial-type of relationship nowadays. Like, I'm so into Leon being a dad to Sherry and Grace. And Claire being a mom to Sherry. I'm into Leon and Jill potentially having a sibling type of relationship if they're given opportunities to be in a game together (I'm still hoping for a Jill and Leon DLC for Requiem). And I'm excited to see Chris and Claire's dynamic in the Code Veronica remake.

Yep... Leon's training was really rough.

Hi Anon! I actually have difficulty answering this because Leon is one of the hardest characters to draw, especially his face (as it is perfect lol). I do a lot of getting it wrong before I get it remotely right. If you can see my earlier drawings of him, you'll know what I'm talking about. I'm still not consistent with Leon's face and it does take a while to get a hang. I do a lot of early sketches before I get it to have resemblance.

But this is one major advice that I can give and it can be applied to any character that you want to draw: learn how to observe the character visually and answer the question "what makes a Leon look like Leon?" I posted similar tips for a couple of characters in the past: Link 1, Link 2. So basically, the more you observe, the more you will get it right.

Here's my usual process:

I got this photo from the game and tried to determine the major stuff about his face and the minor stuff that I can add. Do take note that you don't have to add every detail to get the sketch looking like Leon:

And then, I try my best to translate whatever I observed into messy sketching before I go for the final sketch:

I usually have my reference open on my phone on one hand or on my laptop, and then I draw on my tablet, it's better for me to have the reference at some distance and not on the same screen. Having it on the phone is handy because I can zoom into some details if I need to.

Notice that I don't apply everything I observed. I try not to sketch a carbon copy, I just try to emphasize the major characterstics in there. It's not a guarrantee that you will get it the first time, it takes time and a lot of practice (and obsessing over the features lol). I didn't get it right in my earlier sketches because I haven't had that amount of time observing and listing down more of his features.

Also, always observe other references, not just one even though you're just gonna use one mainly.

Leon totally cried at his wedding.

Leon rarely cries probably. But when he does, he doesn't want other people to see. Exhaustion and sleeplessness just pushes it for him sometimes. He's just being human.

This stemmed from my desire to see a Leon and Jill team up in Requiem. 'Coz Jill deserves to be kicking butt with Leon (along with Claire, but I'm too in a rush to add more characters in this comic). I headcanon that Leon and Jill have a sibling dynamic with Jill lightly bullying him at times lol.

This is set sometime after RE2. And since the remakes never really gave remake scenes of this part of the lore, I made my own spin of the "deal" part and made it... harsher. I imagined Leon tried to visit Sherry as often as he could but couldn't visit more often in later years and kinda lost contact (just my headcanon). But I think he reconnected with Sherry after the events of RE6 and then we get their dynamic in RE9 where he can be a dad to her again.

He's sad in the last panel because he thinks he'll never be free.

Quick and lazy doodles of The Pitt characters coz I love the show and they have interesting faces. This was my trial run on IbisPaintX so you'll see me struggling with it as I've only used it as a Photoshop alternative for my tablet lol. I meant to add Dr. Al-Hashimi but i couldnt fit her in the canvas well enough. Also forgot to press record when I was drawing Dr. Robby. I got progessively lazy by the time I got to the younger peeps lol.
