It’s not even officially summer and the heat can already fuck off. Let’s just fast forward right back to fall. I’ll only tolerate it if I get to enjoy the beaches any time it gets remotely warm. Seems simple enough right? 

I have to say, my expectations of the weather were definitely exceeded — I had anticipated it to be at least 5 degrees cooler than it has been, not that i’m complaining, the hotter days are always welcomed by myself. Sounds as though you need to invest in some fans and a shading umbrella. 

Well, I don’t have kids so no need to put on the teacher roll with me.

We actually do. I moved here when I was still in school and the amount of people I’ve seen move here since there is crazy. Once the Wilde family moved here, even more people came.

I’m glad you believe that because I believe it’s important to seperate home life and work life where possible. So I believe that if I run into someone from work outside of work, then I would just treat them like I treat everyone else outside of work. Does that make sense?

Yes, so, I’m glad you’re not going to be like that. I really don’t want to be terrified of you visiting practices. I hold practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 

Of course, I understand you entirely. I wouldn’t like to have to take work home with me all of the time — or at least, any more than my role already requires me to. It’s a recipe for burn out, and I don’t want to see any of my staff burning the candle at both ends under my lead. A chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link, and I like to run a strong team.

Well, a good attitude towards a team can make a big difference. Wonderful, i’ll make my way down on Thursday.

Can’t believe my kid is almost four months old now. My kid. Fucking wild, still. Anyone know if I’m still going to be having these ‘wow, i’m a fucking dad’ moments when she’s like 18?

I’d like to think they don’t ever — being a parent is a lifetime commitment so I couldn’t imagine there being a time where you look at your child and don’t have that feeling you’ve had for the last 18 years. That feeling shouldn’t ever go away.

It fell short of expectations I’m assuming? It is a rather small village.

Not to a completely diabolical degree, but to a degree that begs for improvement, yes. Small villages and towns such as this typically have the highest ratings of quality in their schools, Gradian is actually an exception to that fact, but it’s a fact I plan on changing.

Well, grade averages will be the main place to start. The average is far lower than it should be, and I intend on improving that. Attendance is another focus area, it seems as though it’s far too easy for student to skip classes they don’t feel like attending.

Working with kids sounds awful.

That’s good because I think I’d feel a little weird calling you Mr Benedetti if I ran into you on the street. Our last head teacher used to just hide in his office so if you saw him it was usually a bad sign. Sure! The team will love to meet you. 

Yes, well, i’m a very professional mannered person, but I do believe at least some level of informality does allow for a more comfortable relationship within a work place. You shouldn’t have to feel inclined to act as though you’re at work when you’re not in your workplace, don’t you think?

Hm, interesting — if the potential of your presence instils such feelings amongst the teachers at your school, you’re doing something wrong in your role. When do you hold practices through the week so I can make sure i’m free.
