Vi auguro di essere eretici. Eresia viene dal greco e vuol dire scelta. Eretico è la persona che sceglie e, in questo senso è colui che più della verità ama la ricerca della verità. E allora io ve lo auguro di cuore questo coraggio dell’eresia. Vi auguro l’eresia dei fatti prima che delle parole, l’eresia della coerenza, del coraggio, della gratuità, della responsabilità e dell’impegno. Oggi è eretico chi mette la propria libertà al servizio degli altri. Chi impegna la propria libertà per chi ancora libero non è. Eretico è chi non si accontenta dei saperi di seconda mano, chi studia, chi approfondisce, chi si mette in gioco in quello che fa. Eretico è chi si ribella al sonno delle coscienze, chi non si rassegna alle ingiustizie. Chi non pensa che la povertà sia una fatalità. Eretico è chi non cede alla tentazione del cinismo e dell’indifferenza. Eretico è chi ha il coraggio di avere più coraggio.

Roman Cats Turn A Historic Site Into Cat Haven

In Rome, many stray and feral cats have found a haven amid the ruins at Torre Argentina. The Julius Caesar’s assassination site has been turned into a cat sanctuary for many homeless cats. The Torre Argentina Roman Cat Sanctuary spay and neuter these cats and keep them healthy and fed. “People are interested more in the cats than in monuments,” says Lia Dequel, one of the shelter’s founders. “The two together are fantastic… because monuments come alive if you see a cat lying on it, or jumping from one pillar to another.” (npr) Torre Argentina is home to about 250 feline friends, sheltered amongst the oldest temples in Rome (400-300 BC). Seven days a week volunteers from different countries, feed, clean and look after them. In 2012 alone, they spayed and neutered 3013 cats as well as 125 cats placed in homes.
