been thinking a lot about anticipatory grief lately. i love you so much that i know losing you will devastate me. i haven't lost you yet but i already miss you. we still have time, but it won't be enough. i think about what i would say at your funeral, and say some of it to you now cause i need you to know how loved you are before you go. you will go where i cannot follow, but you will never really leave me. it won't make it hurt less but it is a part of healing somehow.

I love when you’re all grown-up, you’ve moved out and you come back – or your parent comes around – and they teach you something NEW about life. Something that you’ve never learned before, something which makes you feel five years old again. Like you’re just now (again) realizing that this person who created you has also lived an entire life before you existed, and knows so much more than you, and can teach you all of that. If only you just stop for a moment and listen.

Yesterday my mom taught me that you can put some salt in orange juice that is juuuust starting to go bad and effectively “rescue” it. Juice saved, oranges not wasted, mind completely blown, heart full to bursting. I love learning from people who care about me.
