I just finished Roadwarden the other day, my first text based game. I can say that it’s probably the most memorable and encapsulating game I’ve played in a long time. It’s about being a Roadwarden, a sort of courier who alongside delivering messages and goods, patrols the roads between villages, escorts civilians and laborers, and takes on the local monsters if they’re able. It gives you an incredible amount of choices, and an incredible amount of consequences to them. I got what I consider to be a very bad ending, but the game offers 3 classes, each with a different level of insight on the lore of the world, encouraging replays, so I’m confident that on my next run I can get a better ending. The gameplay is extremely enjoyable, like reading a great book (in my case, about being broke in fantasy Scotland) that you can interact with. The monster encounters made me feel anxious, the travel time and day counters, some very core aspects of the game, reflected the deceptively time consuming experience of playing. The amount of times this game has kept me up late and reminded me of the constant passage of time is harrowing, but an incredibly compelling experience. I could go on and on about the music and how it gives me heart palpitations but I would just recommend listening to Pelt of the North on YouTube. I remember which hand is left and which is right because one only tells truth and the other only lies

I just beat Lunacid. I still have a whole area to discover and dozens of weapons/spells to find. I left one of the optional mini bosses alone and I’m pretty sure I have several side quests to continue with. The game is REALLY good. There are some pretty interesting mechanics like video effects, a difficulty slider, turning off auto run (to make it scarier), real world moon cycle effects, a limb targeting system that changes how you can deal with some of the enemy encounters, and a pretty robust class system (even though I went quality and just evenly leveled across the board). Every game has something to be desired but my only real gripes with it is that the turning speed is a little slow on controller but you can just bump your sensitivity to compensate, and if you’re playing keyboard and mouse it’s literally a non issue. If you’ve ever been interested in playing a first person arpg dungeon crawler, I HIGHLY recommend it.

I’ve been reading Berserk since the end of December (the 28th) and I just caught up tonight (5 am lol). I loved the whole thing, it’s genuinely beautiful despite the horrors it’s known for and I honestly feel kinda sad that there’s nothing left to read. I wonder if I’ll stick to this as it finishes in the next decade or so.
