I was laid off from my IT job 3 months ago and the process of trying to find a new job in a similar role has been the most stressful experience of my life and it will only get harder.
Unfortunately for me I live in a small town so in-person role are basically non-existent. Due to the recession a lot of companies have laid off their IT departments so the job market is absolutely fucked. People are saying it’s never been as competitive as it is now and I completely believe them.
I am highly considering switching fields but I have no idea to what. It’s also very demoralizing to throw away what IT experience I have built up for something else I’d rather not be doing. I enjoy working in technology so much, but I don’t know how long the market will be this bad and if I’m up against people who have more certifications, better college degrees, and tons more experience than me then I don’t think I have a choice.
I feel so helpless and out of options. Why did things get this bad. Will things ever improve.
I always felt that the more I learned, the more opportunities would come to me. For the first time in my life I don’t believe that anymore.
I fucking hate money and the greed it’s created to let things get to where we are now.
No one should have to feel like this.
I needed to write this so that I don’t go fucking crazy.
