i had completely forgotten that the encephalitis plot makes me this squeamish but it does explain why i remember liking seasons 2 and 3 so much more even though i’ve been having a lot of fun with s1 so far. i like the homegrown organic insanity of will still acting crazy as fuck without the debilitating brain infection.

hannibal the show is a comedy to me but the encephalitis plotline does make me legitimately mad at hannibal the character. i’m down with all the lying and murdering and psychological torment but i draw the line at convincing another doctor to hide that a patient has a brain infection.

the only good things about that video were the sam reid ursula k le guin fan reveal and, perhaps more importantly to me specifically, the jacob anderson cats (2019) fan reveal

lestat saying “i serve it to you now how it felt then” really is the crux of it. we’re not going to know if his feelings on gabriella have changed or if he’s had any Realizations about their relationship by the time of recording because he’s not going to tell us. he’s only going to describe and very likely defend what his feelings about her were in the moment. and personally i don’t really need lestat to come to any realizations in this season, and if he does i certainly don’t need or want him to turn to the camera and go “I Realize Now That I Was Groomed.” because it is already clear if you are watching with your eyes that he was groomed. the words he will speak about it are coming from the mouth of the most molested guy ever.

is this a safe space to say lestat and gabriella’s contacts being labeled “moi” and “toi” reminds me of louis’ “me and you” speech to claudia

i think that episode did exactly what it needed to do to bring us into the modern vampire world after we spent two seasons confined to the penthouse, and to give us a quick overview of where lestat is before we dive into the meat of his mental breakdown. and i know episode 2 is similarly lighter than the rest of the season so there’s still two whole weeks until the real scariness starts. but the bits we got were so so tasty and now i will have my face mournfully pressed to the glass in yearning until the horrors are here.
