yayyyy I really enjoyed one piece heroines 💖 when I saw the promo before it came out did i kind of roll my eyes a little that it was centered around fashion? yeah ! like it's a bit of a shallow view of women . but because it was centered around Nami specifically i could kind of roll with it, because it aligns with traits established for her character previously (for better or for worse I guess). loved miucha, the scene where Nami was griping at her did make me cringe a little because ive been the person getting griped at!! the way nami's (and also, notably, luffy's) philosophy of "I can't do anything on my own" getting turned from something beautiful and triumphant (the power of friendship) into miucha's defeated belief - that she cannot achieve her dreams without stooping to the level of lebno - was really interesting to me. I don't recall anyone in one piece proper expressing a sentiment like that or even having a similar character dynamic and it felt like it spoke a lot to women who have had to diminish themselves. loved seeing Nami's flaws expressed in a slightly different way too!!! like yeah nami is kind of a brat and grouchy and particular, and Oda leans a lot on familiar patterns for writing his character interactions, so seeing her gripe at customer service employees and be a pain in miucha's ass while simultaneously loving her work was really fun. also i would be remiss not to mention nami and robin's dynamic, it was so... intimate to me? like totally believable that these two women spend all their time on a boat together in the same room and have done so for months if not years. the teamwork, the trust, the skill 😭😭💖 had a great time watching it and i hope this team continues to make specials like heroines and fan letter‼‼
