"Architecture must be true to itself, its land, and its people." -Architect Bobby Mañosa I drew this after visiting the Mañosa: Beyond Architecture Exhibit at the National Museum back in 2017, and after I received the book version today, I thought I'd post this. When I first saw this at the exhibit, it was the size of an entire wall (as seen on the last pic), and I was amazed at how Arch. Mañosa integrated elements of the bahay kubo to his own residence. He devoted his life to designing Filipino, and it really inspired me at the time, as I was still a first year searching for my own taste in architecture. So when I saw that wall, I thought, "Why don't I study and design Filipino?" And so I tried to take a picture of it, but since it was the size of an entire wall, it was hard for me to take a clear picture of it as a whole, and that's when I thought, "why don't I try to draw it?" So I decided to take multiple pictures, making sure that each definition was readable so I can rewrite it later, and that the bahay kubo and the residence was clear enough for me to replicate. Once I got home, I sat down , took out my sketchbook, and started drawing it based on my pictures, and it made me realize just how good Arch. Mañosa truly was. We Filipinos are kind and supporting in nature, we may be selfish, uncourteous and unable to accept sometimes, but in the end we still try to become helpful and supportive of others, like the tukod that moves diagonally, away from the structure, but in the end helps support its roof and helps protecting it.

Designing Contemporary Filipino, in this case the porch, together with the addition of bushes, native plants and trees is what I love to draw… the answer to the question, “How to make Contemporary Filipino appealing today?” is what I want to find out. Drawn using brush pen and pencils.

To those who watched Uchiage Hanabi, this might look familiar… such a smart design for a school, making it circular to allow sunlight to illuminate the interior of the whole school… never thought of it before watching the movie… used a brush pen and pencils
