The process seemed overwhelming at first and then procrastination set in. Making a list helped me focus: what supplies are needed? what are the steps to follow? what are the goals?

Converted my old drawing table into something great. The shop vac is loud and I have to wear hearing protection – but the results are worth it. The paper stays put, keeping the print registered and the screen off-contact. I’ve learned the hard way that off-contact printing is important. If the screen doesn’t snap back from the paper, it can stick in spots – leaving an orange peel texture in the ink deposit when the print and screen finally do separate. Or, if the print area is large enough, the paper can totally adhere to the underside of the screen. When this happens, the ink will streak as you peel the paper away. Past bad experiences with this were compounded by a heavy ink deposit (from using the wrong mesh size for paper), and a dull squeegee.
