A laugh passed over his lips as River spoke, "I can see them being troublemakers. They don't look like it, but that's how they get you, I bet." He laughed once more. "First round on you? I like the sound of that," Lucas grinned, "I've got a couple of guys that I contract out for bigger projects, but mostly it's just me. Hands on, personal touch, all that." He shrugged, "At times is difficult and business has picked up a lot but not sure if I'm ready to bring anyone on full-time." Though now that River had mentioned it, he knew that it wouldn't be a bad idea. As River mentioned horseback riding, he felt his brows lift slightly as an amused smile tugged at his lips. "Silver Creek Ranch, huh? Been a while since I've been out there, but I know it." He chuckled, "Didn't take you for a cowboy hat-tipping type," he teased, tilting an imaginary hat of his own, "How's it going? You any good or just trying not to get thrown off?" @riverwclker
the blonde nonchalantly extends her arm towards lucas, deftly grasping the chilled, deep green beer bottle, effortlessly twisting off the cap in one smooth motion. she repeats the same action with her own bottle, all the while absorbing lucas' current state of his business with rapt attention. โ wow! โ she exclaims, genuinely impressed. โ it sounds like you're juggling quite a lot. how do you even find the time to sit here and have a casual chat with me? โ her amusement evident, she punctuates her question by taking a hearty gulp of beer. โ as long as you're staying on top of orders and taking care of yourself, there's no need to reinvent the wheel, i guess! if it ain't broke, why bother fixing it, right? โ river's gesture becomes more animated as she points a finger squarely at lucas, underlining her point. โ but, โ she adds, a smile playing on her lips, โ should you ever find yourself in a tight spot, just remember that i've got a knack for sanding. visually, there's something so satisfying about it. โ
she sighs heavily before dramatically tossing her luscious, golden blonde locks over one shoulder, the strands cascading like sunbeams on an autumn afternoon. โ my dear lucas, โ she proclaims with a sense of introspective confidence, her eyes shimmering with a mix of mystery and allure, โ i contain multitudes, โ taking a moment for a comedic pause, she adds, โ also, i have severe adhd that constantly propels me towards hyper-fixating on activities. โ river doesn't need to think before giving a small snort of laughter, โ oh, i'm definitely trying my damndest to not get thrown off the back of a horse. i'm making headway, though ... i think. i've only had one session. โ she admits with a laugh.

While the studio was quiet Sammie enjoyed a coffee and catching up with her socials, only those relating to business, while she hung out at her station in wait for her next client. There was time to kill and sometimes she did alright with idle moments and other times she couldn't be still. After she'd replied to a few inquiries and communicated about appointment availability and the parameters of what a session with her entailed she pulled out her sketchbook. Sammie always had something scratching around in her brain. When she heard someone come in she looked up with a bit of a smile. "You have an appointment, right? Unless you're just dropping in for a quick clichรฉ..."
river was nervous, feeling exposed as she navigated the world around her. however, she stood firm in her determination to no longer let anyone undermine her sense of autonomy. participating in her routine of self-soothing exercises, she began her journey with a bit of internal reflection. after approaching the reception desk, she quickly spoke up to address the stunning woman accommodating her. river smiles, but it's more apologetic and sheepish if anything at the moment. โ 'dropping in for a quick clichรฉ'? i'm sorry, i don't know what that means. but i do have a scheduled appointment, or, a consultation, rather, โ
river shared, her words tumbling out in a mix of apprehension and self-deprecating humour before she could even think to stop herself, โ my name is river, i misplaced the exact time for the consult. it was arranged it over the phone about two weeks ago, โ which, in my forgetful state, that's like, eons ago. initially i thought i put the time in my calendar app, but it turns out i had put the date in the notes app. who even revisits their notes, amirite? โ the last bit of the question was filled with sarcasm, because when it comes down to it, river has an overwhelming amount of her weirdest, most original self is put; an assortment of long lost grocery lists, observations, and context-free thoughts, like everyone else. right? โ right!? โ and to add to that, i didn't jot down the actual time. โ
pausing briefly to gives a bit of bashful laughter, โ i even intended to follow up with a call to get the original time, but you know how it is, when god decides to use your life as a punching bag. so, here i am, a casualty of the unpredictable dance with fate, hoping i'm not late. โ

๐ฒ๐ป๐พ๐๐ด๐ณ ๐๐๐ฐ๐๐๐ด๐ย ย :ย ย river ๏น ย ย holly parker @ THE RUSTY SPUR.
river's move from alara's beachfront apartment to vim's couch marked a transition in her living situation that involved adjusting to a new space with its own set of dynamics. in an effort to be considerate of vim's, vanna, and the rest of her families hospitality, as well as the limited space available, she developed a routine of visiting the rusty spur after her shifts at the aquarium. this routine was her way of subtly minimizing her presence at Vim's place, aiming to strike a balance between being appreciative of his kindness and maintaining a sense of independence.
by making the rusty spur a part of her post-aquarium routine, river sought to find solace in the company of familiar faces and the comforting ambiance of the bar, which provided her with a temporary escape from the shared living arrangements that she was adjusting to.
โ hi babes! โ river greeted holly enthusiastically, her face lighting up with a closed-mouth but noticeably cheerful smile as she caught sight of the familiar redhead working behind the bar. โ are you just starting a shift, or about to finish? โ she inquired with genuine curiosity, her eyes reflecting a mix of familiarity and warmth towards her friend. despite the bustling ambiance of the bar, river's voice rang out clear and full of anticipation, eager to catch up with holly and share in the latest happenings of each other's lives. โ either way, you wanna do a few shots before we get down'n'dirty with the latest life updates? โ river bites her bottom lip playfully, giving her shoulders a little shimmy as if the movement alone was going entice holly into drinking with her.
๐ฒ๐ป๐พ๐๐ด๐ณ ๐๐๐ฐ๐๐๐ด๐ย ย :ย ย river ๏น ย ย jackson madavi @ VIM'S RESTAURANT.
river had been finding solace in the cozy atmosphere above vim's restaurant ever since her departure from alara's apartment in beach front. the accommodating vanna, and her considerate younger brother, jackson, had graciously welcomed river into the restaurant's top floor, where she had been residing comfortably in a spare room. and ever eager to show her gratitude and avoid feeling like an imposition, river had taken it upon herself to assist with various tasks around the establishment. mostly this included lending a hand with washing dishes during peak hours or helping out whenever she noticed they were overwhelmed.
one leisurely afternoon, river decided to playfully announce her presence to jackson, โ 'sup, big boss? whatch'a up to today? โ the blonde saunters into the doorway and casually leaning against the frame. with a mischievous glint in her eye and a playful grin on her lips, she greeted him in a nonchalant yet friendly manner. โ catching up on taxes, trying to not put your head through a wall? ... maybe getting a little tipsy? โ pulling out the hand that was hiding behind her back, river reveals a small bottle of dark whiskey. perfect for sharing.
Wes had spent a while setting everything up before his supposed client got there, annoyed as hell that he had been roped into doing something he'd.. well, never really done before and that wasn't a part of his usual job on the ranch. But given their usual horse trainer was out with an injury, his mom had asked him to fill in, and he reluctantly agreed, given his older brother was busy with running the ranch, of course. The sound of a voice pulled him out of his reverie as he was adjusting a saddle, his grip tightening slightly on the worn leather before he let out a breath and straightened. Admittedly, he hadn't been looking forward to this, not because of her โ he didn't even know her โ but because stepping into the role of a trainer wasn't exactly on his list of things he wanted to be doing. But here he was.
And then there was her accent. That caught him off guard more than anything. Definitely not from around here. Australian, maybe? It took him a second longer than it shouldโve to shake himself out of it and respond. "Yeah, uhโI'm Wes," he confirmed, before quickly wiping his hands off on his jeans. He hesitated for half a second before holding out a hand to her, his fingers curling slightly before he made up his mind. It was only polite. "Nice to meet you, River." His voice was steady but carried the slight weight of someone who'd already had a long morning.
He gave her a quick once over, nothing judgmental, just assessing, before nodding toward the row of stalls behind him. "My mom mentioned you'd be coming by. Figured I'd get everything set up before you got here. Our usual trainer's out for a bit, so I'm filling in til they're back." His gaze flicked back over to her, a little more focused now. "What's your experience around horses? Have you been around โem much, or am I starting from scratch here?" The corners of his mouth twitched slightly, like he was trying for a smile but wasnโt quite sure if it landed.
โ pleasure is all mine, wes, โ river smiles warmly, her friendly demeanour evident as she reaches out to shake wes' hand confidently and with no hesitation, the casual firmness of her grip reflecting that she's ready to be here. sensing wes' gaze lingering on her, silently probing, river shifts her eyes away, subtly avoiding the scrutiny.
the barn surrounding them exudes a rustic charm, its sturdy, breathtaking wooden structure immaculately maintained. as wes brings up his mother, the same woman river had conversed with earlier, her attention returns to him with a sudden sparkle in her eyes, a genuine smile brightening her face. โ your mom is adorable, and very kind, โ she remarks with sincerity in her voice, expressing her fondness for the earlier interaction. โ i appreciate you filling in. giving lessons to an outsider probably isn't on the of of your to - do list. โ she chuckles, wanting to make light of the situation.
wes probably thinks she's just some tourist passing through, that she's just here to take a few photos for instagram before she's on her way, never to be speak of the experience again. even though that's not why river is here, even if she was, it looks like wes is at least attempting to hide his discontent? which is something she can respect.
โ uh, well, i've ridden horses before, a casual trot here, a guided trail ride there. it's been years, though. โ this also felt profoundly different, looking beyond the ranch to the mountains and the forest, River can only imagine how it feels to be on the back of a horse out here. this new experience, the prospect of really connecting with a powerful animal had ignited a fierce, almost addictive fascination. โ i remember that the, uh, โ the irons need to be the proper length after getting on the horse. โ river goes quiet for a moment, clearly trying to remember and wrangle up any past information she can when she was first learning. โ um, good posture is key ... oh! and, something about the hands, right? โ her nose scrunches in question. river can't remember the specifics of the last one, but she's hoping that receiving some of this was useful to wes.
River was like a gentle bird, a fragile being who had entrusted her heart to someone she believed she could trust. Seven months was a long time to genuinely get to know someone, and Vanna could almost feel the weight of her disappointment. Seeing River like this now filled Vanna with an intense fear of allowing herself to break in such a way again. She refused to let anyone control her emotions like that ever again.
Vanna attentively listens as River attempts to explain her situation, but the weight of her emotions muddles her words. Vanna can sense River's struggle, and she nods gently, offering silent support to let her know itโs okay not to share every detail. With a comforting touch, she lightly rubs the top of River's hand, leaning in closer so that River can look at her. "You did the right thing," Vanna assures her, her gaze softening when their eyes meet. "The most important thing we can do for ourselves is to listen to that inner voice when it's screaming for us to do something specific. You left because you needed to protect yourself. The explanations can come later." She gives River's hand another tender pat.
the situation felt incredibly clichรฉ to river when she found herself shedding tears on new yearโs eve over a boy she hadn't even had the chance to kiss. the sudden shift from the anticipation of a perfect night to the harsh reality of it being ruined in mere moments left her utterly dumbfounded and if it had not been for vanna's timely intervention, river would likely have spiralled into an even more distressing state.
despite the haze of alcohol clouding her mind, river's subconscious acknowledged that vanna's presence was crucial in providing her with the opportunity to verbalize her thoughts and emotions, to give river at least a chance to understand her feelings instead of going to bed a complete mess. the comforting solace offered by vanna's listening ear and comforting hands allowed river to navigate through the overwhelming rush of emotions that had threatened to consume her earlier in their conversation.
with vanna's unwavering support the weight on river's heart began to ease.
river took a moment to process vanna's words, giving a few quick nods of understanding. however, a sudden wave of dizziness overcame her, causing her to let out a small groan of discomfort. despite the temporary setback, river found solace in the calming presence of vanna by leaning into her side.
resting one side of her head on vanna's shoulder, she expressed her gratitude, saying, โ you're the best. have i ever told you that, yet? you're way too cool for this measly planet, โ the blonde gives vanna an appreciative, yet lazy kiss to the temple before pushing herself upright with a heavy sigh. a sense of hunger then washed over river, prompting her to make a request in a slightly playful tone, โ ... can we get some food, please? โ

Colt glanced back down at his pathetic excuse of a shopping cart, seeing all the lost thoughts in his phone that hadn't made it to reality. All he'd done in the span of too much time wasted in the store was wander around and hope that he could remember the words on the screen. Or how many times that he'd made the same lap around the place. It still seemed better than the alternative of taking it all home, find himself staring at it and choosing the beer rather than anything else.
He'd eat at the station, make small talk, and move on with his day with the same amount of enthusiasm and regard that he had been in the past month as he had only grown quieter in the smaller moments. No one was fully aware of the painstakingly "Wait... please, let me explain everything," he tried to get out around the frog in his throat. Where would he even begin to tell her how everything had come together in the time that they'd been getting to know each other, or how the night was bound to end.
Olivia was a friend, pretending to be his girlfriend, so they could each get something out of his parents and he hadn't counted on the one thing that would send him shattered into pieces after that night. Or the fact that he hadn't been able to look at the ocean the same way anymore, not without being reminded of her smile or the way her laughter rode the waves better than anything else out there. Or that he wanted to go back to that moment and take it back to a time when he wasn't so unsure of his feelings.
It wasn't the right time or the right place, but Colt was ready to abandon his cart and every other thought in his head for a chance to speak to her. Even if she wanted to keep shopping, then he'd be her shadow the entire time until she knew the whole truth as long as she wanted to hear it. It was the least that he could do when there was so much more that he owed her. Colt needed to speak up, say anything more, and start the conversation even as she tucked her face away from him for another direction with her cart.
"Please, Riv. I never meant for any of this to hurt you," he added, feeling the pain in his voice paired up with the urgency to get it through to him too that he hadn't just fucked up with her but with everything that was right in his life. "It's not what you think." Though he was sure that his words were swallowed up as a crowd of people started to gather around them as he glanced back, trying to find the cause but there were people jostling each other and he couldn't figure out for the life of him, why.
river shakes her head with a mix of disbelief and resignation as colt delivers his first plea, the movement of her head conveying a sense of disappointment directed not only at colt but also at the circumstances that led them to this moment. her mind, caught in a whirlwind of memories, flits back to that fateful day when they first encountered each other at the golden hour during sunset, a time when the world shimmered in hues of amber and gold, mirroring the warmth and uncertainty that marked the start of their journey together. the flashbacks come rushing back like a tide, carrying with them a wave of emotions that river struggles to contain within the confines of her demeanour.
river's heart felt like a turbulent waters as she takes in colt's genuine remorse and sincerity in his words. despite the initial skepticism, a glimmer of trust began to spark within her. the weight of his emotions was palpable in his voice, conveying the truth behind his apology. in an effort to ground herself, river tightly clutched the shopping cart that had been her only physical anchor in that moment of emotional turmoil.
yet, her attempt to maintain composure was futile as the realization dawned on her, not due to the bustling activity around her but the rise of recognition from onlookers. given the overwhelming sense of exposure and vulnerability, river made a decisive choice to abandon the cart, embarking on a different path this time.
instead of fleeing from colt, she turned to face him, her usually effervescent eyes now clouded with apprehension. taking his hand firmly, she guided him towards a concealed alcove within the grocery store, a sanctuary from prying eyes and unsolicited judgment. โ i want to talk, colt. okay? i do. just โ just not here. please, not here, โ she implored, her intent not to shield herself but to shield him from the repercussions of the unfolding dilemma. in this moment, she prioritized colt's well-being over her own, understanding that he should not be entangled in the complexities of her past that he knows nothing about.
she leans slightly to one side, adjusting her position for a better view, only to find her heart sinking deeply into the pit of her stomach as she spots the crowd directly heading their way. with a quick turn to face colt, she grabs his forearms to ensure his attention is fully on her. โ i have to leave. text me later, โ she states firmly, holding his gaze for a brief moment before focusing on the impending need to escape the encroaching and inquisitive crowd. to river, every second spent making eye contact with colt was a worthwhile delay.
having to confront the now-growing crowd directly, she plunges forward with determination. she pushes through the dense mass of people, weaving her way through the forest of extended camera lenses, flashing lights, and recording smartphones.
as she approaches the exit, a sudden jolt from the side sends her crashing to the unforgiving floor. she becomes aware of a sharp throbbing pain pulsating through her head, a sensation akin to being struck by a heavy object. Is it the impact against a fruit stand or a sudden collision with the hard, unforgiving floor? the world around her appears hazy and distorted as she hesitantly opens her eyes, struggling to make sense of her surroundings. the muddled vision only adds to her disorientation, further bewildering her senses.
despite the intense discomfort radiating from her head, she initially fails to register the dampness and warmth permeating her hair, a subtle detail overshadowed by the overwhelming pain. the persistent queasiness swirling in the pit of her stomach intensifies as she strives to push herself upright, her muscles protesting against the movement.
Reina didn't wait long before she took a large bite out of the sandwich, eyes closing as the flavor rolled over her tongue and her shoulders slumped in peace. Yeah, ice cream was always her one-stop shop for helping her feel better, nothing else truly compared to it. "This was more needed than you know," she managed to slip out before she took another bite and continued listening to her new companions' words.
"If you really need the help, I'll definitely lend a hand," she waved her hand at her things briefly. "This is easy to tuck away in my car, honestly, it would probably be easier if I drove you home versus you walking it and risking the breakage." She nodded her head at the other girl, now known as River. "You wanna take me up on my offer?"
river takes a satisfying bite into the sweet layers of the ice cream sandwich. the flavour sends a wave of delight across her face. she turns to the woman standing beside her, a warm smile spreading across her lips as she sees the contentment mirrored in the woman's eyes. with a sense of shared understanding, riverโs grin deepens in response. โ yeah, this was a good freakin' idea. โ she muses as she looks upon the ice cream sandwich with much fondness and and a slight appreciativeness in her own decisions. with the offer up in the air, river gives the woman a double-take, โ are you serious? โ she asks, her eyes widening with a delightful sense of disbelief that someone would be so generous. she exclaims enthusiastically, โ absolutely, without a doubt, i'm going to graciously accept your kind offer, thank you so much! โ river takes another big bite of the ice cream sandwich before it has anytime to melt. โ what were ya workin' on, before i came in and saved the vibes with ice cream? โ she asks reina, as if they hadn't just met a few minutes before this.
Valโs eyes brightened at Riverโs question, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. Her hands moved instinctively, fluid and expressive. "Oh, I love this question."
She paused for a moment, considering. Then, with careful, deliberate motions, she signed: "Understand with your heart." Her expression softened as she explained. "It's just something my parents would say when I was trying to learn to learn to hear and speak." She punctuated her sentence with a shrug, as if it was something had made such a huge impact on her life.
River's comment though, stopped her right in her tracks, her heart warming at the unexpected compliment from the blonde. "River, wow, that's so sweet of you to say." She reached forward, giving River's wrist an affectionate squeeze. "You're pretty great too, friend."
At the mention of smoothies, Val pretended to consider it, tapping her chin dramatically. "Hmm. Do I have time for a smoothie? Let me check my very busy and important schedule." she teased. Pulling out her phone and unlocking it with a flick before grinning and tucking it right back into her pocket. "Looks like Iโm free. Guess Iโll just have to let you buy me a smoothie."
river's excitement was obvious as she found herself enveloped by val's vibrant energy. the mere presence of val seemed to elevate river's spirits. a sense of admiration for the other woman was almost overwhelming as she awaited val's response. the yoga instructor began to move her hands gracefully, and river's gaze never wavered, studying each gesture with a keen eye. a slow nod from the blonde signalled her understanding, her smile growing even wider as a wave of appreciation washed over her. โ ' understand ... with your ... heart, ' โ river echoed, her hands mirroring val's signs to the best of her own ability. the profound simplicity of valentina's message resonated deeply with river, bringing up a sense of warmth and gratitude within her. โ that's beautiful, val ... your ... parents ... seem amazing. thank you for sharing, โ river signed, her words flowing slowly in a dance of communication.
โ awe, shucks! stop it, you! you're makin' a girl blush and i'm already burnin' up, โ she giggles lightly with val, tossing her head to one side to hide her bashful features. with valentina's joking nature, river rolls her eyes playfully, โ well i'm so glad you have the time for little ol' me. especially with that superstar status, girlie! โ clapping her hands once with excitement, she points an index finger towards the exit. โ alright, let's go get these smoothies! i'm thinkin' green goddess, with extra mango, โ river hums, half daydreaming about the refreshing drink as a twinkle dances in her eyes.
the sun rays caress her face gently as they step outside to make their way towards the smoothie joint. but, they pair don't get far.
river notices a figure coming from valentina's side. and she looks quickly to see someone hiding behind a long lense, and she can hear the unmistakable clicking of the shutter going off. river stops in her tracks like a deer in headlights. โ what do you think you're doing, friend? โ she asks but the joy she felt moments before is now gone. her stomach feels tight with a panicked instinct. she knows what this is. but she doesn't have the guts to say it out loud.
as the reality of the situation sinks in, a wave of apprehension washes over river, turning her initial excitement into a mix of fear and uncertainty. the scenario unfolds before her like a scene from a thriller movie, no worse with valentina by her side. amidst the chaos of the moment, river's mind races to assess the potential dangers lurking around them, realizing the gravity of the situation they find themselves in.
it's an ambush. she doesn't have to look, she can feel the crowd coming on, closing in, she can hear the shuffling of feet, multiple feet.
the tension in the air thickens as the realization of being caught in an unexpected ambush settles upon river and valentina. the once bustling street now feels eerily quiet, the only sounds being the hushed whispers of unseen figures drawing nearer. as fear grips her stomach, a panic instinct takes over, and river angles herself so val can watch her sign โ we have to go, โ as quickly as she can.
Throughout Esra's time in Briar Ridge, she had never ventured to Stoney Pointe. The turbulent waters here struck her as far more violent than those at the beach, evoking memories of a traumatic incident back in Istanbul. While modeling along a jagged cliffside, Rahmi had stepped in to adjust her bathing suit for the shot, and in that moment of distraction, she nearly slipped and plummeted over the edge. The experience unfolded in an instant; although Rahmi always teased her about being dramatic, the encounter left her with a deep-seated wariness of heights.
The lighthouse at Stoney Pointe loomed before her, not particularly tall but sturdy, its weathered structure casting a long shadow against the rocky shoreline. Below, the waves crashed violently against the jagged rocks, their frothy white crests mirroring the very waters she had almost fallen into three years ago. While the scene held an unsettling familiarity, it also captivated her, drawing her closer to its wild beauty. Perhaps that was the reason for her visit today.
It had been a challenging week since Rahmi returned from his business trip, and Esra felt an insistent need to escape the weight of her thoughts. She couldnโt quite put her finger on what she was searching for in this rugged landscape, but one thing was clear: she yearned for a breath of fresh air, a moment of solace among the crashing waves and the distant cries of seabirds.
Her weary steps slowed as she caught sight of a blonde woman sitting by herself, a picture of quiet contemplation. When the woman looked up and acknowledged her, Esra continued her approach, moving to lean against the railing that stood as a protective barrier for visitors. "Sorry," she said, a light chuckle escaping her lips as she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, the warm breeze gently tousling her locks. "I'm a bit..." She paused, shaking her knees to illustrate her wobbly state, the tremor in her legs betraying her fatigue. "So I decided to take it a little slower, just in case I tripped." She eyes the spot next to her, offering a small smile. "Mind if I sit next to you, just until I get my bearings?" she laughs.
as river quietly gazes upon the women, her gentle eyes absorbing the weariness etched on their faces, she halts her steps, empathetic thoughts swirling in her mind. she pauses, reflecting on the possibility that the woman may be in dire need of solace and respite from her burdens. responding swiftly to her compassionate instincts, river extends a kind gesture, gently urging the weary woman to find rest by taking a comfortable seat nearby. her soothing tone, infused with genuine empathy, cascades through the air, conveying a sense of understanding and care. โ yeah, of course! c'mon, take a seat, sit, โ river's voice carries a warmth that seeks to provide comfort and support to the woman in her time of need.
with a warm smile, river rises from the bench and naturally falls into step alongside the woman. sensing the woman's weariness, she delicately extends an offer of support, โ here, take my arm? โ the gesture is accompanied by a genuine sense of concern for the woman's well-being. despite her eagerness to assist, river remains respectful of the woman's personal space, careful not to overstep any boundaries or impose unwanted help. ultimately, her actions are guided by a sincere desire to provide aid in a considerate and understanding manner, mindful of the woman's autonomy. โ i'm glad i've got company now, if i'm being honest, โ river tells the other woman while taking a slow sit down on the bench. โ i love the sea, love it! but, the scenery is always nice to share with others, โ she smiles, dimples showing.

Lucas chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "Raya's got good taste -- who wouldn't want to crash with the penguins? It sounds like she's living the dream." He responded to her, taking the open seat at the bar as he did so. "It's been solid," he gave a nod of his head, "still getting more orders than I can keep up with, but I am not going to complain about that." Lucas grinned at her, "People are really liking this whole rustic-meets-modern thing." He shrugged his shoulders, "A couple reels have taken off, but I try not to think too hard about that part. Just keep making what I love, you know?" He tilted his head slightly, "Besides Raya's great escape, what else has been keeping River busy?" @riverwclker
โ honestly, i don't blame raya either. the penguins are pretty rad, but damn, are they a terrible influence, โ river commented with a chuckle, shaking her head in amusement. her expression brightened even further as lucas shared the news of his successful business venture. โ good. that's amazing! first round is on me, then, โ she offered, her smile reflecting genuine happiness for his achievement. finding joy in celebrating lucas's success provided a welcome distraction from her own current feelings of discontent. โ you thinkin' about hiring people? ... more people? โ there's a small pause on river's account before looking lucas with furrowed brows, showing her confusion. โ i've just realized that i don't even know if you have employees or work by yourself, โ she admits before putting in a fresh drink order for a new beer and whatever lucas wanted to put on her tab. โ um, โ river hesitated, her voice trailing off momentarily as she searched for the right words, reluctant to reveal the extent of her somber mood at that moment. โ oh! i took up a new hobby: horseback riding. โ river clicks her tongue against her cheek and tips the imaginary cowboy hat. โ just over at silver creek ranch, have you been there before? โ
Natalie chuckled at the other's joke about the "kitten-in-a-tree" posters, knowing that she'd done similar but it was typically more athletic heroes that she idolized that were hung up on her walls growing up. Anything to keep her motivated and keep pushing even when things got tough. "I get that," she said, nodding slowly. "The little voice in your head can be the worst. Always second-guessing, making everything feel like a bigger deal than it actually is." She took a sip of her drink, glancing over at the other woman with a sympathetic smile. "Itโs crazy how often it seems like we're our own worst critics, huh? I think that's why I love it here. Everyone who goes up there just ignores that voice and has fun regardless. It's a good reminder."
She paused for a moment, then added with a grin, "But hey, if it helps, I think your self-doubt makes you seem like you care more about doing things right. I mean, if you didnโt care, you wouldnโt even wrestle with those thoughts, right?" She leaned in slightly, her tone light but thoughtful. At least she told herself that often enough at work or when she was trying to work things out with Enzo. If she didn't struggle, then it wouldn't be worth it in the end, right? "I guess we all have our demons to deal with, just in different ways. And maybe... weโre a little better at handling them when weโve got someone else to call out the crazy thoughts every now and then, yeah?"
Her eyes softened slightly, and she nudged the other back, giving a playful, yet sincere, smile. "Iโm sure youโre doing better than that voice in your head gives you credit for."
river gazed sincerely at the other woman beside her, her soft features expressing a high level of interest and engagement in the conversation. nonetheless, what truly captivated river's attention was the opportunity to delve deeper into the profound realms of personal vulnerabilities, insecurities, and the essence of life itself. such discussions never failed to stimulate and satisfy her curiosity.
