Tw: cochlear implant surgery, infertility struggles, divorce
Valentina was born deaf, but like every other difficulty in her life, she took it in stride. At the age of 5 she got a cochlear implant and went through years of hearing rehab and speech therapy so she can now communicate very effectively without having to read lips or sign. She married her college sweetheart and while the two loved each other deeply, lack of communication and struggles with infertility eventually drove them apart. Since her divorce, she has built her life from the ground up and has become a incredibly successful deaf, yoga influencer. She is the embodiment of making things happen for herself.
Valentina was born completely deaf. But it took her parents almost a year to realize that this was the case. Her grandfather was deaf, so her parents knew it could be a possibility for their children as well.Â
They tried to use hearing aids for several years, but they did nothing for her. So when she was five years old, she had the surgery to install a cochlear implant. This was the start of years and years of hearing rehab and speech therapy.Â
The adjustment to the implant and hearing was hard on Valentina. Her parents did their best to assure her that her differences didnât make her any less special, but with how other kids had a hard time understanding her at first, it definitely took its toll.Â
She would always wear her hair down to cover the cochlear implant, she worked really, really hard in speech therapy to try to get her voice to sound like everyone elseâs, when she was older, she would force herself to stay in loud environments like birthday parties and the like even though those loud noises often triggered migrainesÂ
It wasnât until she went to college and really worked on her self love that she fully came to accept and feel confident with her differences. She finally started wearing her hair up, she would happily reference her deafness and talk about her cochlear implant, she really began to feel like her disability was also her super power and it empowered the shit out of herÂ
Shortly after her freshman year, she met her future husband. The two fell hard and fast for each other. She felt like he was her perfect match in so many ways. By their senior year, the two had moved in together. When they graduated, they quickly got married and moved for his career. Though a lot of people warned Val against giving up her dreams for her own career and her life for a guy, even if he was her husband, she never thought of it that way. To her, her husband was her dream, and being there to be able to support him was incredibly important.
During this time, Valentina discovered and nurtured her passion for yoga. She started an instagram page to document her journey and pretty quickly grew her following to where she began to get brand sponsorship dealsÂ
Things were going so well for both Val and her husbandl, until they werenât.Â
The better he did at his job, the worse off their marriage became. While at the start, Val could understand and completely empathize with how much time he needed to dedicate to his work, one too many work trips and late nights at the office, meant less and less quality time with each other which started chipping away at Valâs confidence in their marriage.Â
Eventually, despite the distance growing between them, Val had a pregnancy scare. It wasnât until that moment when being pregnant all of a sudden could be a reality that Val realized how much she wanted to be a mother. So when they found out that she wasnât pregnant after all, but that the stress from their relationship had caused her period to get out of whack, Val was surprised at how devastated she felt.Â
After that, they tried again and again, but never could become pregnant. And the distance between them only continued to grow. Val thought that her husband resented her for the lack of success with getting pregnant and carried that guilt far more than she should have.Â
Eventually, when her husband had been gone far longer than he had originally communicated, Val called him and a female voice answered the phone. This was the straw the broke the camelâs back. She couldnât believe that after everything they had built together, he would just throw it all away.Â
She immediately packed her bags and went back home to Michigan. The divorce was surprisingly easy, proving in Valâs mind that her husband really didnât care that much. And within such a short amount of time, the last seven years of her life were erased as if they hadnât existed
Slowly, Val built her life back up again. Her career as a content creator was really taking off.Â
Six years ago, Val moved to Briar Ridge to support her college best friend who was newly pregnant and newly single. The move was a welcome change for her and sheâs loved the life sheâs built for herself here, and even hopes to open up her own yoga studio soonÂ

Un-break my Heart by Toni Braxton was a staple when Val was going through her divorce. The lyrics didn't 100% apply to her situation, but it was just great for getting her in her feels and helping her cry when she needed the emotional release.

The metal dart felt heavy between Benny's fingertips as he focused on the bullseye from his position. He was usually quite good at this; playing darts was a common pastime for him. Sure, he had a bit of an advantage given his reach, but Benny once spent a full twelve hours testing those limits. At 22, he never backed down from a challenge.
However, tonight wasn't about reliving any particular memories. Although one memory lingered in his mind, he simply wanted to keep himself occupied until his friend arrived. He let out a sigh, contemplating whether to throw the dart. Rolling his shoulders back, he decided he wouldnât let a bittersweet memory taint his enjoyment of the game.
He tossed the dart, but as it flew through the air, someone walked right into its path. Benny winced, expecting the worstâuntil it landed perfectly in her cup. Relief washed over him when he realized it was Val. He approached her with an easy grin. "Holy shit, I almost gave you a cheek piercing," he joked, poking her cheek playfully. "Boop."
He smiled and took her cup, the dart sticking out of it. "You're kidding, right? I have to buy you one." He shook his head, then took a drink from her cup. Benny grimaces, the taste of metal tainting his tongue. "Yeah, see? This one is no good." He nodded toward the bar. "Câmon."
Valâs mouth dropped open in exaggerated offense as his finger poked her cheek. âBoop? Really, Benny?â she shot back, eyes narrowing even as a laugh slipped past her lips. âYou nearly turned me into target practice and that's the line you go with?" Teasing Benny was just second nature at this point. "There had to have been more badass options out there."
Eyes widening in surprise, she watched him take a sip from her ruined drink, her nose wrinkling at his grimace. âGracias, CapitĂĄn Obvio. Of course it's no good, you spiked it with hardware.â She quickly grabbed the ruined beverage back, lest he try to take another sip and placed it down on the nearest table with finality. Even when she was giving him a hard time, Val couldnât help but look out for Benny. She was protective in that big-sister way that slipped through no matter how much she teased.
As she followed him towards the bar, she stuck close, making sure she could hear him over the noisy din. When they finally got a space, she quickly leaned against the bar so she could look him over as they waited on a bartender to take their orders. It had been a while since they'd caught up. "So, what's new with you, dart boy?"
Didnât matter when Levi stepped foot into the Rusty Spur, it never failed that he appeared entirely out of place. Not only just with his towering stature, but wardrobe in addition among the themed-clad patrons. Particularly why a vast distance accumulated over the years between him and the fellow family members that were long residents of the small town. Far from the environment heâd been raised in. Yet, being here did present better chances at spending worthwhile time with them. His cousin's joint clearly had business booming.
Finding a usual niche inside amidst the bar games, Levi found himself competing in an ongoing dart match. While intently surveying his next throw in rotation, a lone game piece from another player ended up flying awry, nowhere near the board. "â Val!' Levi called out upon the recognition of where and who it landed near. "Now my throws aren't that terrible." A faint smirk touched his lips, immediately approaching his familiar neighbor's side. "But I'd bet one of them over there tried that on purpose." A nod motioned back towards his opponents. Strange attempt at a move though. "Where've you been, by the way? Long time no see."
Val blinked up at him, then down at the dart still dripping in her glass, her lips tugging into a wry curve. "I freaking hope not." She glanced over his shoulder, in search of the origin of said horrible aim but decided to let it go. âGuess I should be grateful it was my drink and not, yâknowââ she gestured vaguely at her face with sarcastic laugh.
Her gaze softened a little as she took him in, her teasing tone giving way to a warm smile. âI'm so glad I ran into you here, it's been ages!!" she gushed, giving his arm a friendly squeeze. "Work's just been keeping me busy, I keep taking on more and more classes at the rec." Waving the topic of conversation away, she leaned in slightly closer, as if to make sure she didnât miss anything he said in the noisy bar. "But onto more important things! I hear someone has a pretty big update for me." She wiggled her brows expectantly up at him. Since her conversation with Nia at the Spring Fling, Val had been dying to catch up with Levi.
Val isn't a particularly great singer. Being deaf makes it a little difficult to hear pitch and tone. However, if she's drunk enough, she just might join in on a group rendition of Bidi Bidi Bom Bom by her idol, Selina.
Jiya barely registered Valentina hugging her as her eyes were still locked on her ex-husband, who now seemed to have seen her. Her arms stayed by her side as she mentally put the pieces together and felt every single part of armour beginning to crack. For years, Jiya had tried to protect herself by building walls and armour that were impenetrable. To the world, nothing phased her and she simply got on with it but as much as she wanted to just carry on walking, she couldn't.
"You're.. you're with him?" She finally looked down at Valentina, awkwardly moving out of the hug and taking a step back. Looking back to Alex through the windscreen, she could feel everything bubbling under the surface. She really should've just turned around, got in her car and driven off to let Alex explain the situation, but the thread had finally snapped.
Her jaw tensed and she looked back to Valentina. "Woman to woman, if he starts telling you he's working late, don't believe him, he'll probably turn up a year later with another secret baby." She wasn't angry with Valentina in the slightest, if anything, she felt bad for her, but her rationality seemed to be another thing that had disappeared. "Give him thirty seconds and he'll probably jump out of the car." She could feel her hands shaking with the fury coursing through her body. "It'll be right under your nose as well, probably someone he works with, that tends to be his MO."
Her eyes moved back to her ex-husband and in that moment, all she wanted was to throw something at his car. "Or are you a changed man now, Alex? A wedding ring didn't help you to keep your pants zipped up, so does Valentina need to worry?" Her voice was raised ever so slightly, hopefully enough for him to hear. For the first time that she remembered in her life, she didn't care about making a scene. Jiya Santa had cracked.
Alexâs stomach twisted, but he kept his jaw set, his voice clipped and precise. Val's posture stiffened, and he felt the familiar surge of protectiveness. She doesnât need to be dragged into this. He opened the car door and stepped out, closing it with a firm click behind him. Every step toward Jiya was deliberate, controlled, but inside, his pulse was racing.
âJiya, enough,â he said, low, deliberate. âI hear what youâre saying. I know why youâre saying it. But thatâs not who I am anymore.â He took a careful step closer, making his presence felt without crowding her. âI made mistakes, terrible mistakes. But I owned them. Iâve changed. Iâm not that man.â
He let his gaze hold hers, steady and unflinching. âI didnât want you to see this, see us. Not like this. Not seeing me with her, not hearing⌠this. I thought you'd already left.â His words hung in the air, heavy but measured, letting the weight of their shared history press between them. âBut please. Please stop before you say something youâll regret.â
Beneath the calm cadence, his chest throbbed with guilt and fear, both barely contained. But he wouldnât show it. Every line, every controlled breath, was meant to signal that he was present, accountable, and despite the chaos he felt inside: unshakable. He refused to let this break him, even if every instinct screamed that he deserved it.
Val noticed the cold reception, the lack of reciprocity when she hugged Jiya. To be fair though, Jiya hadn't ever seemed like an overly affectionate person, so maybe she just wasn't a hugger. But when the brunette took a step back, and voiced a question that clearly wasn't a happy greeting, Val confusion only deepened.
She stood frozen, shock rooting her in place as Jiyaâs outburst shattered what had been a happy morning, dousing it in ice-cold dread. With each accusation, Val felt herself shrink inward. But one phrase rang louder than all the restâwedding ring.
Had Alex cheated on his wife? Was Emmy the product of him stepping out of his marriage?
Her breathing grew shallower, each inhale tighter than the last, as one of her biggest fears, her worst trauma, seemed to be hurled at the man she... well, the man she damn near loved.
She didn't hear the footsteps echoing across the pavement behind her, only when she saw Alex's tight frame approaching Jiya, did Val feel herself relax just a tiny bit. Surely, Alex would vehemently deny these horrible claims. He'd prove they were false and Val had nothing to worry about. Instead she was met with 'that's not who I am anymore,' and Val's world came crashing down. He wasn't denying it. He was admitting he cheated.
Her eyes, suddenly glossy with moisture she desperately tried to keep at bay, flew to Alex, watching him try to diffuse the situation. But what was there to diffuse at this point? If it was all true? And why was he trying to keep Jiya from saying more? Was there more? Was there something worse?
Without even intending to do so, she found herself quietly asking, "Wait, so it's true?" She didn't know if she was asking Jiya or Alex at this point, all knew was that she was hoping, aching for someone to tell her this was all a big mistake. @jiya-santa
"Hola tĂa, ÂżcĂłmo estĂĄs?" Billie glanced up at Val, cautiously awaiting to see how she had done. As the pair made their way to the park, they were practicing some of the spanish Val had been teaching Billie. "Yes, mi amor! That's perfect!!" Val gushed, giving the young girl's hand an encouraging squeeze. "Tia Selin is going to be so impressed!" Billie beamed with pride as they approached the park entrance.
Leyla had asked Val to drop Billie off so that she and Selin could spend the day together, and Val was happy to do so. It had been a while since she'd gotten to catch up with the eldest Yilmaz sister, and given the heart to heart Leyla and Selin had had recently, the brunette couldn't help but wonder what else was new with Selin.
When they finally spotted Selin, Billie took off for her aunt, running up to her and quickly repeating the phrase Val had taught her. Val slowly made her way towards the pair, giving them time to greet each other before she approached. "We've been practicing some Spanish at home. And Billie was dying to show you." she said by way of greeting, a friendly smile on her face.

It had been a week, that was for sure. Val might have bitten off a bit more than she could chew, taking on extra classes at the rec center during the same week sheâd packed her schedule with appointments to view rental spaces downtown.
By the time Saturday night rolled around, it felt like she was running on fumes. And while her first choice would have been to head home, cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie with Leyla and Billie, she had promised a coworker that she would come out for her birthday. At least said birthday celebration was at Golden Hour, one of Val's favorite places in Briar Ridge.
She was already struggling with a tension headache by the time she got to the bar, so trying to distinguish the voices of her friends over the pulsing music proved extra difficult and she found herself wishing she could turn off her cochlear implant and just use sign language instead.
After a while, she found herself drifting inch by inch away from the center of the party, toward a familiar spot out on the deck. Sheâd discovered long ago that the walls there blocked just enough of the music to make it bearable.
When she reached the railing, she leaned into it, savoring the small reprieve the quieter air offered. She rolled her shoulders back and extended her arms to stretch, trying to ease some of the tension in her neck, only to accidentally brush her hand against someone beside her.
âMierda!â she muttered under her breath, spinning toward them. âIâm so sorry, I didnât mean to burst your personal space bubble!â
It was only after the apology left her mouth that she realized she knew them. âHeyâKit, right?â

Coming to the Rusty Spur on a Thursday night probably wasn't the brightest idea the deaf yoga instructor had had lately. Thursday was very clearly the new Friday, and the country bar was packed to the brim. She had to weave her way through the chaos, shoulder to shoulder with strangers in boots and flannel. The din of the crowd so loud it made even hearing the country twang that played over the loud speakers inaudible for the brunette. She was scanning the sea of bodies for an empty table when she cut around a corner and walked straight into the path of a dart board she hadnât noticed.
She didnât hear the sharp warning from somewhere behind her, only the muted shuffle of boots and laughter. What she did notice was the sudden thunk against her glass. She froze, staring down at the offending dart now sticking out of her drink like a bizarre garnish. Lifting it out by the tail, she turned toward the general direction it had come from, one brow arched. ââŚNot sure if I should offer to buy you a drink or ask if Iâm next.â
"Wait!" Summer's voice could be heard, even though she was talking to no one in particularâmaybe one of the many voices in her head?âand reaching her hand out in a stopping motion. "This. Is. Perfect." It was not a squealânot even a shriek if you think about itâbut it was definitely there. There was little she loved more than perusing trinkets at garage sales or antique shops, this one being the former. She would never understand what would bring someone to put their shit on display for a whole neighborhood to see, but boy, she was glad they did it. She was meant to be thereâwith her hair in a messy bun, her cuttoff shorts, and the graphic tee that said podcast people are people too ( one of the many dead air merch that had gone poof in her shop ). She was meant to be there, and find that precious tiny doll that looked like it had seen better times. "Don't you think this looks haunted? It definitely looks haunted, right?" The doll was shoved in her unsuspecting victim's face. Summer was never good at personal boundaries, and it showed.

location â someone's garage sale, any neighborhood.
Val loved garage sales. It was such a fun way to spend the day; nosying through people's lives. She loved the stories she got to hear and even the ones she got to make up in her head based on the things she saw for sale. So when Summer had sent her a text asking if Val had wanted to join her and go garage sale hopping, Val hadn't thought twice before accepting.
As a pathetic looking doll was shoved in her face, Val froze in her tracks. She gave the poor thing a once over, before meeting Summer's gaze, a serious expression on her face. "It's definitely giving haunted vibes." She nodded her head as if that sealed the deal and made their assumption fact. Glancing around to check out the sale around them, her eyes zeroed in on the couple sitting at the top of the driveway in camping chairs as they kept an eye on things. It seemed like they were the ones who lived here. "Think there's a story there? Something sketchy happened to the kid who the doll belonged to?" Val was nothing if not notorious for letting her imagination run rampant.
A soft groan escaped Livia as she moved to pick up her phone and got the online schedule out where it clearly said that it was her turn for the studio. She moved back to Valentina, showing her the screen of the phone and her name on the schedule. "It still says the same, honey. And this is live. Online. Ready to go. And it clearly says my name. So just leave. Don't be a pain in the ass more than you already are."
She couldn't care less that she wasn't very nice at the moment, but Livia was here to earn money and not to cancel a class. And not even Valentina Flores was going to stop her at that.
"I am pretty sure you are the desperate one here." She put away her phone and moved back to the yoga mat that she had been warming up at. It was there that she took a seat and continued her stretching exercises to warm up. Nope, she wasn't leaving.
"Don't you need to check with the main desk where the mistake is? Because you know... It turns out that you only want to see what you want clearly."
She didnât move. If anything, she planted herself more firmly, one hand braced on her hip as the other ran up through her ponytail in a gesture that was pure calculated calm.
âYou really think Iâd show up without checking? Without confirming?â Reaching into her bag, Val took out her phone, and pulled up a text conversation between her and the rec center's operation's manager, Meiling, where Val was confirming her schedule for the week, including this session in this studio. Her smile turned razor-edged as she held the phone up for Livia to see. âPlease. I donât roll out of bed for anything less than verified facts and a chai latte.â
She didnât move just yet, folding her arms as she studied Livia, eyes narrowed thoughtfully. âSounds like someone messed up somewhere, but it wasn't me.â
After a beat, Val rolled her eyes. Someone had to be the bigger person here and start offering practical suggestions. âLook, Iâm not trying to derail your class. Maybe we both go check with the desk before we start throwing around accusations and assuming sabotage.â
Well, that sounded familiar, Nia mused quietly to herself. Quick to be taken in by the growing infectious smile painted onto her friend's features. Something bright flickered in Valentina's eyes and it made her instantly forget any life lessons she might've been meant to learn from that similarity. Too focused on the relief it brought her to see Val so happy.
"Well, I highly doubt you were being an idiot at all." A teasing affectionate wink was tossed at Valentina. "I'm glad he got his act together though."
A buoyant sort of feeling settled between them, "I'm so happy for you." Nia fanned a hand at her face like she was fighting back tears. For once overwhelmed with purely positive emotions. It'd been too long. "You really deserve it."
"Oh! and, we've got to get back to our little chats about what we're reading because Benny just doesn't quite appreciate a man in plaid who can throw you as much as we do. Ya know?"
Val laughed, the sound bubbling up before she could stop it, and swiped at the corner of her eye like she could chase off any potential tears. âOkay, nope, youâre not about to make me cry. I refuse,â she said. Though her voice was teasing, there was a sincerity to her words. She was so grateful they had managed to get to this place, that they could be happy for each other, and share details about their own lives now.
She reached over and gave Niaâs hand a squeeze, her grin softening into something that held all the gratitude she couldnât quite put into words. âSeriously, thank you. It truly means so much.â
Then, at the mention of their bookish chats, Val perked up. "ÂĄDios mĂo! Yesâweâre way overdue. And youâre right, Benny will never quite appreciate the sacred magic of being thrown around by a rugged man in plaid with questionable communication skills and a tragic backstory."
Her eyes lit up as a devilish grin lit her features. "Good thing we have each other again! You better hit me up when you're ready to start your next read!"

The impulse to argue died on the tip of her tongue, and for the first time Nia quietly realized that she might've actually managed to let go of some of the guilt she'd been inclined to wear around. Clearing the air with Valentina had unwound that particular emotional knot and... surely, if the woman in front of her could forgive, Nia could forgive herself too.
Maybe she wasn't destined to just keep repeating the same mistakes.
Nia's soft laugh mirrored Val's, a playful sort of sparkle simmered in her gaze. "Oh. That part I can't really say i've doubted," a free hand came up to smooth out her brow. A slightly amusing mix of smug and bashful all at once. "He's very... vocal." Nia snorted gracelessly, "It has to be awful for my ego, honestly, at the rate Levi lays it on." The man was 'annoyingly' charming more often than not, she found.
"It's more of... me. Not trusting myself to not fuck it up somehow, or to be worth the way he looks at me." She rolled her eyes, "Trust me I know that's stupid given I am normally a picture of self-confidence."
Amidst her rambling, a soft thankful smile was offered across the space towards her friend. "You're the best, really." The expression morphed into a slow growing grin. "You know we fixated on me... but what about you!? I need details."
âAnd we stan a man who worships his woman,â Val practically swooned, wiggling her brows in Niaâs direction with a dramatic flourish. âBut as he should! Your ego deserves to be fluffed and fanned daily, Nia Bailey."
As the conversation shifted, Val couldnât fight the stupidly wide grin that tugged at her lips. It bubbled up from somewhere deep, the kind of smile you wear when your heart is too full to keep it contained.
âWe started off as friends with benefits,â she admitted, her tone equal parts amused and exasperated. âAnd thenâfinally, after way too longâwe both realized we wanted more. We had just been too afraid of screwing things up, of second guessing each other's feelings.â
She gave a rueful shake of her head, the regret clear, but softened by the glow in her eyes. âWe wasted so much time tiptoeing around it. But once we finally stopped being idiots and actually said what we felt⌠it was like everything clicked. Like the universe had just been waiting for us to get our act together.â She laughed, a little breathless with emotion. She was gushing, but she couldn't help it.

She hadn't really expected to stay in town for this long, but with the feeling that there was still unfinished business with Alex, and with herself, Jiya had found herself in a short term rental and unwillingness to return to New York. With that came frequent visits to Valentina's yoga classes and taking her up on a few visits to the park where they were able to practice in nature, with Jiya putting her feet in the grass for more than five minutes for the first time in a long time.
As the class waited for their instructor to arrive, Jiya quickly smoothed out her workout top. She might be about to get hot and sweaty with yoga, but there was no chance anyone would see her not perfectly presentable to start with. Reaching up to re-tie her hair, she could only sigh as the elastic snapped when she tried to twist it. "If Valentina arrives, can you tell her I'll be just a second, I need to go and grab a hair tie from my car." She asked someone else waiting and as they nodded, Jiya grabbed her bag and headed out to her car. Yet another addition to her life in the small town.
It didn't take her long to find another hair tie in the glove box of her car and after fixing her hair into a high ponytail, Jiya locked the car and made her way back across the parking lot. As she neared the entrance, Jiya smiled as she saw the instructor, raising one hand in a wave until she clocked who Valentina was with. Her body froze as she spotted Alex, her face dropping and she was pretty sure, for a few seconds at least, she stopped breathing. She wanted to scream. If she was honest, she wanted to throw things. But instead, she was frozen, just watching them in silence as, for now, she went unnoticed.
Alex shifted the car into park, half-listening to whatever song Val had humming through the speakers. His hand lingered on her leg as she reached for her water bottle, and she glanced over at him with that look â the one that still made his chest ache a little in the best way. They were only a few weeks into this thing, but it had heat and ease in equal measure, like theyâd skipped the awkward chapter and gone straight into something real.
He leaned across the console and pressed a kiss to her temple. âYouâve got this. Just donât judge anyone too hard for forgetting how to breathe.â
Alex stayed in the driverâs seat a moment longer, watching her stride toward the building with that easy confidence that still floored him. She glanced back once and he gave her a mock salute, ready to head out, but then something made him freeze.
A familiar figure had just reemerged from the far side of the parking lot. Ponytail. Workout clothes. The curve of her shoulders he still recognized instinctively. Jiya.
His stomach tightened.
He blinked once, hard, half-convinced he was seeing things. But no, it was her, and she was walking toward the very class Val was about to teach.
That didnât make sense. Jiya was supposed to be gone. Theyâd talked. He'd assumed she was heading back to New York, that whatever lingering thread was keeping her in Briar Ridge had finally unraveled. He hadnât pushed. It wasnât his place anymore. And truthfully, he thought it mightâve been better for both of them if she left.
So why the hell was she here?
She hadn't seen him yet but he recognized the moment she saw Val. The way her steps slowed. The flicker of something like disappointment as her gaze followed the path Val had just walked, and found him at the end of it.
His jaw flexed. Dumbfounded, Alex just sat there, heart starting to pound, as he watched the quiet fuse that had just been lit in front of him.
âWell,â he muttered under his breath, leaning back in the seat. âShit.â
Driving through town, with Alex's hand on her thigh and living the passenger princess life of her dreams, Val couldn't help but question how lucky she was. She'd caught herself agonizing over when the proverbial shoe would finally drop far too many times to count, but recently the brunette had come to the decision to trust that for once, fate had her back.
Little did she know.
Grinning from ear to ear, she rolled her eyes at his joke and gave him a playful swat before finally stepping out of the car. Alex just made her too happyâshe couldnât even pretend to be annoyed by his dad-tier jokes. As she turned back toward the rec center, her face lit up even more at the sight of Jiya.
"Jiya, hi!" she called as she walked towards the student turned friend. Feeling a little extra... well, happy, Val couldn't help but throw her arms around Jiya when she approached, giving her a hug. "Are you ready for this? Because I'm super excited There's a couple moves I have planned that I think you're going to kick booty at!" @jiya-santa
