keep thinking of a scenario where rose landry is bisexual and out pre even meeting shane. and she tells shane this upon their first interaction and he looks like a deer caught in headlights a bit (and acts not unlike the coming out scene where she tells shane that miles is gay). and he does the classic closeted thing where you don’t want to be perceived as a homophobe but you also don’t want to be perceived as gay because that is the one thing you are really paranoid about people finding out. and rose recognizes this reaction as shane is kind of fumbling his best attempt at being a supportive straight guy. and over the course of their relationship she catalogues this information as she tries to assess whether or not shane is possibly bisexual or gay because he is not homophobic but he sure does have paranoid closeted person vibes.

i feel like one of shane's biggest psychological fears would be to not be in control of his mind/body. like as he ages, he would be a bit horrified at the impending doom of the signs of aging from his body and what that means in relation to hockey. alongside that, i feel like that would be a reason he wouldn't love being high. he might enjoy it for the first 20 minutes or so, but the joy would wear off and he'd just get so in his head about everything and hate that he cannot be functioning as "normal."
