cable fan club

I'm working on several different projects right now, but I wanted to take a break and make some art real quick. Unfortunately I came up with this and I felt so strongly about it I drew the rough sketch on my lunch break at work. sorry

I have a lot of mixed thoughts on the movie that aren't really relevant to this artwork, but I gotta say Yoshi was absolutely the highlight for me. I love how he was incorporated into Mario and Luigi's dynamic like a part of the friend group. Some games and other media lean into his creature/dinosaur traits further and that's fine, but I feel like he sometimes loses his identity and becomes more of a species than "the one specific character named Yoshi" if that makes sense? Which is why I was so completely in love with this version of Yoshi and watching him join Luigi in playfully ribbing Mario or showing off whenever he could (stuff like taking Luigi's bike or his reaction to getting the Super Scope from the tree). His personality is just so clear in the movie, and I think this is genuinely my favorite portrayal of him. It reminded me a lot of how I depicted Yoshi as a kid, I used to write a lot of stories with a very specific version of Yoshi I made and besides the fact the movie's Yoshi cannot talk, he was shockingly in line with all of my childhood headcanons. I even gave my Yoshi a purple hat later on and I only realized that Yoshi wears an extremely similar hat during the New York scene while I was drawing this. Thanks Illumination for including my OC-ified version of Yoshi that I made when I was 7 I guess

This sort of served as a test for a rendering style I don't normally use. I had fun doing this and I like the result, so I might use this style more. Also, sorry if Zösky looks a little short in the redraw, I think I accidentally gave him SM64 proportions in the sketch and I tried fixing it with mixed results.

Also, while I was working on this I drew Zösky's silhouette first and for some reason it reminded me of the Challenger Approaching screen from Smash Bros.? So I made this in the middle of drawing it??

This one went through a few concepts, so as a bonus, here's my original sketches, small doodles I wanted to add somewhere, and my 2023 attempt.

Popoi has been one of my most favorite characters ever since I was 13, and every 2-3 years I like to make a fully rendered drawing of him to measure my growth. That and the fact I failed to draw him last year are two of the reasons I made this; the third is that I wanted a Halloween profile pic to use elsewhere but had already used both of his artworks last year, so I just thought "screw it i'll make my own". This started as a headshot but I had so much fun with the sketch that I decided to just do a full drawing. I like how Popoi himself came out, but I'm not really fond of the background. I played around with changes for a week but couldn't get anything I liked, oh well. Also I FORGOT HIS TAIL I'M SORRY I'M SORRY don't call me a fake fan I promise it's because his cape was originally wrapped around his body but I changed it rather late in the drawing process... (in my defense he sometimes lacked a tail in Fever) I also hope it isn't too obvious I don't know how to draw capes...

I've still got one more Extension Corps art dump left, by the way, just need to finish one more drawing I wanna add to it. Until then here's extremely minimalist doodles I made on the same canvas as this drawing.

Spamton has a very special place in my heart, I was completely obsessed with him during my entire last year of high school and would draw him non-stop. I drew him so much that I could actually see visible growth in my art skills, and I really do believe he benefitted my art a lot. I mostly did sketches back then and rarely posted my art however, so I don't really have anything to show for it :/ I feel like I owe the number one rated salesman some art, so I wanted to draw him one more time before the new chapters release. I wish I could've made something bigger but oh well, this silly rough drawing will have to do.

Part of the reason I made this is because I've yet to see any fan animations for this series, so I wanted to make one! The other reason is because I thought the idea of making an animation of Kaput and Zösky with a silly cutesy song would be funny given how comically evil they are. This might be out-of-character? I based it on the ending of Kaput Is Indisposed because I think about Zösky's reaction to Kaput being himself again a little too much. Their relationship is very sweet to me :] I see this as ship art but I suppose it can be viewed as platonic too? Or a secret third thing, whatever they are in the show idk

Also just for fun, here's the thumbnail I made for the YouTube upload. I finished this today and I'm ngl I couldn't get it to turn out how I wanted which is why I'm putting it under the cut instead. Oh welllll

Okay so when Brothership was first revealed I saw a lot of people comparing the Extension Corps to the Best Fitness Friends. I was actually unfamiliar with them because I never played the BIS remake and when I saw them, Beef and Dieter reminded me of Kaput and Zösky, mostly because of their almost identical color palette. I even ended up sketching them together in September. (I was still very much learning how to draw Kaput and Zösky)

Anyway, getting reminded caused me to watch the show again. Both Kaput & Zösky and the Extension Corps have been living in my head simultaneously since then and I guess it's caused me to permanently associate the two with each other oops lol

Besides that, I also think Kaput makes a good voiceclaim for Ecks which is why I made the animatic. I don't think Zösky's voice fits Ten very well but their characters kinda give me similar vibes? So it still works I guess. I also made the animatic because I immediately thought of Ecks when I remembered that clip, given the whole handwashing exchange in Brothership.

The Ten smoking gif was just me goofing around because I've joked about Ten smoking despite not having a mouth and I really love the Zösky smoking a comically large cigar clip.

I've been into the show for about 2 years now, but I'm only now getting around to making art for it because I didn't actually finish it until the end of last year. (funnily enough mario & luigi got me back into it, will explain in another post of art i have later)

I made the sketch in January for fun, never intended to fully render it so Kaput and Zösky are more stylized than how I normally drew them at the time. I didn't like the way it was turning out so it sat unfinished in my gallery for months. I still don't like it that much, especially since the way I draw them now doesn't really look like this anymore, but eh whatever I guess.

This is most of the art I made that was posted to other platforms/is still worth posting. I wanted to separate it from the art from this year since some of it is pretty old (some were made before the game was even out!) The first drawing of Ten was already posted here for the M&L art collab, but I'm including it anyways because I still really like it and it's... well it's still the only fully rendered drawing of any of the Corps that I've made lol. The next three images are from before the game released (although I finished the third one shortly after it came out). And then there's some out of season winter art including ornaments I made. I can't even make a Christmas in July joke, I'm two months early.
