She had hoped to be alone, at least for a little while. Rey is very good at keeping things to herself, but it seemed to show just how much emotions and secrets were beginning to weight her down. Though Rey knows she could go to her friends for help, she knew the felt of their troubles. She felt it, and so to burden them less she kept silent.
Marco, however, had always been different from the others. She wasn’t sure if the pirate could get stressed, or how he even dealt with it. When he entered the room, she had already known it was him. Through the Force, she could sense his intentions, though it could be a number of things he wanted to talk about. Things she wanted to keep to herself.
“Marco…” Though she tries to hide it, Rey sounds tired and wary already.
“…What is there to say?”
He knows firsthand about pain. Emotional, physical, everything. He’s got a lot of years to back him up, and he knows the signs when he sees it. He could see it in his crewmates, in the way their eyes would flicker or their shoulders would heave. Rey isn’t much different. It’s the way the air hangs around her, tense and muddled. He can’t say he’s fond of it.
“A lot-yoi.” His arms are folded, pads of his fingers gently pressing into his arms. She can’t hide the tone of her voice, and his lips purse tighter. She doesn’t want to talk about it. As much as he sympathizes, this can only go on for so long.
“I can’t say I know exactly what you’re going through, so I won’t bother pretending. But I do know it’s hurting you, and it’s clear as day.”
There’s a pause, allowing her to think before he continues.
“I won’t push you. But it’ll eat at you day and night, and I don’t want to see you beating yourself up it.” He sighs again, and his posture straightens, finally letting his gaze settle on her alone. “Whether you like it or not, your friends who care about you are involved as long as you avoid it. Life isn’t that simple that you can hide it away forever.”
