Thinking about using my second playthrough of KCD2 to point out the many jokes and references that are understandable only to people familiar with Czech culture. Because there’s a lot.
But I am not sure if I want to expose you all to our absolutely garbage humor.
Okay, time to man the fuck up and finally deliver!
There will be spoilers and I 100% missed some shit. I have also played in Czech alone, so some names will straight up not be translated, I am not sorry for that.
First - When you try to get a sausage out of Oates for Mutt at the start of the game, you can convince him to give it up by promising scraps from a feast at Trosky. Oates then mentions that his favorite is pork with cabbage and rose hip sauce. This is a reference to an iconic comedy movie Slavnosti sněženek (The Snowdrop Festival, 1983), in which two rival groups of huntsmen bicker over a hunted boar. One point of contention is wheter to eat the boar with cabbage or rose hip sauce.
Next, the universially beloved bards George and Michael, who themselves are a reference to british singer (ger ready for it) George Michael, are renamed in Czech version to Michal and David. This is of course reference to Michal David, a pop icon of the commie days who still performs to this day (though he has no hair anymore)
At Nebakov mill, there are two servants named Anče and Kuba. Nearby is also a huntsman cottage. These are characters from a well known (and old) children show Krkonošské pohádky (Fairy tales from Giant Mountains), where Anče, Kuba and huntsman are three servants to a minor tyrannical noble, who has a beef with a mountain demi-god Krakonoš (Who, fun fact, was one of the original inspirations for Tolkien's Radagast the Brown).
*Sigh* Alright, I have to mention this one. Because it's an icon...
In Troskowitz, in the chronicle, there is a mention of certain Zdena, an old woman who gets lost in the forest and trapped under a big root. This is based on a LEGENDARY TV news report commonly known as Bába pod kořenem or "Grandma under a root". The report was about a grandma that was camping out in the woods with her friends, went for a walk, slipped, fell and got stuck under a tree root, merely 50 meters from her pals. She lost her voice from the shock, couldn't call for help and wasn't found until morning. This, accompanied by the cheesy nature of the report trying to make the situation as dire as possible and making the poor Zdena reconstruct the unfortunate event, became an instant meme, that, even 12 years later, absolutely refuses to fucking die.
I also personally know the guy who filmed the report, which fills me with a great source of pride.
Karel Arrowhead is one of the stupidest fucking jokes this game has to offer. If you don't know, in the Kuttenberg area you meet a guy with an arrow in his head named Karel Arrowhead. In Czech, his name is just Karel Šíp, which means basically the same thing. Karel Šíp, coincidentely, is also a very prominent late night show host. That's it. That's the joke.
If you remember my previous post about famous Czech actors being cast in KCD2, you might remember both Petr Nárožný and the movie fairy tale S čerty nejsou žerty (No jests with the devils). Nárožný's character, a strict and loud military commander, arrests the hero of the story and later recounts the arrest itself in front of the local duke. To describe it, he uses an iconic, instantly recognizable line: "JE TO REBEL! Při zatýkání tři vojáky těžce zranil, dva zhmoždil a jednoho... zesměšnil!" - And now in English "HE'S A REBEL! During the arrest, he badly injured three soldiers, punched two and one... *absolute disgust in his voice*... he ridiculed!"
This exact line sometimes plays when you walked by an occupied pillory and the announcer uses this exact line to describe the crimes commited by the jailed criminal.
And finally, at the very very end, during the post credit scene, where Dry Devil tries to shoot an apple from Žižka's head, you can very faintly hear in the background the following lines. "Pojď dělej! Dělej!" and "No tak to je debil, to jsem neviděl." - "Come on, do it! Do it!" and "What an idiot, I've never seen anything like that." These are lines from another internet meme that blew up in recent years called Svarta Jump. In it, we see a young man (from my fucking hometown no less) make a very stupid decision, as you can see below.
These are just the ones I found, but there are also apparently references to Wedding of Jiří Kára, which is another meme, a wedding video of two homeless people with their crackhead friends, which is absolutely ripe with iconic quotes. As you may have noticed, we Czechs love just quoting shit at each other.
Also I heard that Hans Uher and his entire sausage thing is a reference too, since his actor is known from some Slovak show, where his character is somewhat tied to sausages, but I don't know anything about that, so I'll need Slovak brothers to answer that for me.
Anyways, that's it. Nazdar

autism tests are so funny. I'm extremely literal most of the time, but people don't tell me that generally, so I'm inclined to answer disagree. because I'm taking the statement too literally
I learned like a month ago that questions like these are not asking what OTHER PEOPLE think of you but they are asking if YOU take things too literally. They use this format so the questions dont all sound the same but like…. Ive been answering these questions wrong my entire life because of this!
Violence set to happy music will never get old to me. Blood splattering to an 80s pop song is like a sister to me because I'm not allergic to fun.
