Difference between the novel vs series
1) In the novel, there are two Kanos as well as two Ogamis, which makes sense if we are talking about parallel worlds ☺️
So, the two Kanos exchanged places. The original Kano fell from the shrine stairs and woke up in bed in the alternate world whereas his duplicate ended in a coma, thus switching their fates.
When the two Kanos exchanged again, the duplicate Kano was found in the shrine wearing hospital pjs while the original found himself in a hospital wearing his three-piece suit 😅 Yes, they were both questioned in their respective worlds why they are dressed the way they are but nobody was really persistent to get answers lol They are all just happy that (both) Kano is okay.
2) This also happened in the novel. Kano bought chocolates hoping to confess to his Ogami but overheard that this Ogami does not like sweets. Plus he seems close to one of their female co-workers. So, Kano assumed that the original Ogami is straight.
He went to the shrine had a cry and momentarily meet the other Ogami. I think this is fate giving him a chance to choose once and for all, which world Kano wants to live in: a world where he can only love Ogami from afar, or a world where Ogami loves him.
Still, it was the difference between the two Ogamis that solidified Kano's decision.
Because, again, Kano's dream was never to depend on Ogami and use him as support. His dream is to be on the same level, or equal to Ogami in every single way. So, while he saw the other Ogami as his last chance to be loved by an Ogami, he knows deep in his heart it is not what he wants.
3) In the novel, Kano tried to explain to the other Ogami that there is another Kano outside the fog who is looking for this Ogami (yes, it gets confusing lol). That if he just walk back and trace his steps, he'll find the Kano he's looking for.
The other Ogami didn't exactly understand but he did walk away at original Kano's insistence. He didn't just disappear into the fog like this lol
4) This also happened in the novel. The original Ogami followed him in the shrine and saw Kano hugging someone, although he did not see that person's face because of the fog.
He did assumed that the person is the "overprotective salesman" who made Kano cried, triggered the jealousy and love confession scenes.
(Again, this is sweet but also ironic that Ogami is essentially jealous of himself, though he does not know it 😅😅😅)
(Also, let's all learn to forgive both novel and series Kano because is slightly dumb when it comes to romance 😅😅😅)
5) The things that I did not like in the novel (and I guess slightly in this show) are these:
Original Ogami did dragged Kano to the nearest love motel after the confession to do the 'deed'. And although Kano initially agreed, I also did not like this:
Ngl, Ogami seemed a little rape-y in these scenes.
And that's it. The last few minutes of the show did implied that Kano tried to explain to Ogami the concept of the other world, which was also what happened in the last extra of the novel.
Would have been cute to see Ogami's reaction when he finally caught up that he is essentially jealous of himself from another world lol
