Every cleric has the ability to directly manifest their deity. It can only be done once in their lifetimes, and the cost is enormous. The invaders are getting ready to raze the town. You're the last defense, though you worship the god of harvest and childbirth, not war. You begin the ritual.
Hunger could drive any man to war if promised enough food to feed his family, and these soldiers were no different than any others facing the threat their famine brought. Compassion against an enemy was difficult, but I knew their leaders were using them for their own gain, using the famine to drive this war machine forward.
And I knew this might not work. There was a chance that the people would continue to fight, that their leaders might manufacture more reasons to continue the battle beyond just taking our lands to fill their larders.
But there was a chance it would work, and then, even if the wars continued on, people wouldn't go hungry. People would have a chance. Even if the kingdom I lived in fell, even if everything changed. At least there would be food. And access to food changes the future.

New Talian art! Want to learn about Talian, my autistic enby, and the world he is a part of? Bright Fall is up here and here! Chapter two has just gone up (though that one concerns my other character, Callym), but you'll get to meet Talian on page one of the story! Also, I realized I can just go ahead and, again, post the teaser for the story, since I don't have a tiny post length limit here!
Talian Layne, a street urchin and amateur con artist, found his fate changed miraculously ten years ago. Since then, he has been a member of the Royal Guard, a role he has taken to with an exceptional talent and resonance. He enjoys the routine, the occasional adventures, and the access to cleanliness and food, not to mention the feeling that he's helping to keep the denizens of the palace of Gladeforth safe. But another peculiar twist of fate is about to turn his life in a new direction when he, after returning from nearly a year abroad in an exchange of soldiers program, is assigned to be an undercover bodyguard for the heir to the throne, Arbiter Ascendant Callym Naldathin, who is to make a journey across the dangerous Wild to meet with his betrothed and seal a pact between Gladeforth and the distant land of Garvenai through marriage. And it's Talian's job to keep him safe until the Ascendant can be wed and the lands allied. But Callym is a flighty, indulgent sort and spends his nights partying and taking risks that Talian just doesn't understand, especially when he has to save the Ascendant from his own follies. And Callym has no desire to be wed into a loveless marriage, especially when he starts to find himself inexplicably drawn to his new bodyguard. Add to this a stirring rebellion in the heart of Gladeforth and strange forces mobilizing in the wings and the future of the realms is uncertain indeed. And Talian will have to contend with his own feelings and loyalties...

I am very tired (insomnia last night), still have a migraine hangover, and whiny. So I'm crowdsourcing medical research info:
Anyone have links to a good list and/or examples of a low-histamine meal plan?
Are there any good food diary iOS apps that don't focus on amount or calories? Historically, tracking my food intake is a fast path into relapsing into really disordered thinking and relationships with food.
Why yes, things have been happening that made me realize I need to figure out if I have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. Of course, the problem is that so many chronic illnesses have overlapping symptoms, so who knows what may be going on, and of course in this dystopian hellscape we all live in, people have to be their own medical researcher and advocate.
Boosting this since I have a lot of chronically ill mutuals. So, MCAS and EDS besties, I'm asking you to show up and lend a hand!
Reblog if you are a human rights extremist who believes that all humans are equal and has no sense of loyalty to nation states.
Would anyone be interested in sneak peeks of little snippets from Bright Fall as I work on new chapters? These would be subject to change with my edits, so no guarantee they will be the same by the time you read the chapter they are from.
Callym and Talian from my story, Bright Fall. I've been working so hard on my art lately.
I love how these pieces came out.
If you've yet to check out Bright Fall, it is now also on AO3!! Here you go!

A rare look at a traditional sketch of mine
Eventually, this will be digitally inked and rendered. This is my new tiefling character, who works for a nepo baby fae patron in her third century of life. The young fae is being given her first shot at having her own warlock (she calls them her "artisan") and has to prove herself to earn more connections, magic, etc.

A Warrior's Plea
The warrior paused in the clearing, setting his sword down carefully and trying to hold back tears. Scars crossed his skin, each one a reminder of a time he stood, a time he defended, a time he fought for others. Tears began to streak the dust and blood on his face, clearing a path to his skin where they traveled, letting just that tiny bit of light reach him in their wake. He spoke, the words a prayer and a curse, a plea and a desperate query.
"Why can I never be the protected? Never the one others lift and comfort? Never the innocent that others hold? Always the blade, always the strong, always the instrument of everyone's need...never allowed to be seen as soft? Why?" The forest clearing did not answer. He picked up his sword and vanished back toward camp. Another skirmish would come too soon.

Gratitude vs. Joy
What do you all think of gratitude posting/journaling? Does it differ from writing about things you take joy in? For me, it's a great deal different. One is accepting your lot in life, usually at the behest of someone who has things you do not (money, health, etc.) and thus does not get it. The other is refusing to let the life you have make you stagnate, and is an act of transformative rebellion. I make joy. I blaze with a furious flame to burn through all the horrible I go through so I can enjoy things and it is a choice and an active process every single time. I have to acknowledge the struggles I have in life and fight my way to joy through it, and honor myself for doing so. It is not being, it is doing. I dunno, just my thoughts. Yours may vary quite a bit.

Carriola Tussock Moths: these moths have translucent patches (i.e. hyaline windows) on their wings, and their green-tinted veins are clearly visible within
Above: Carriola witti
Moths of the genus Carriola have a very unusual appearance, as their wings are covered in translucent patches that reveal a delicate network of greenish-yellow veins. The green coloration is caused by the haemolymph (i.e. "blood") that passes through these veins.
Above: the male form of Carriola thyridophora, with a close-up of the hyaline windows and bright green veins on its wings
The males of this genus typically have brown or beige borders around their wings, while the females have pink or white borders instead. The hyaline windows also tend to be much clearer and more extensive in the females.

This article describes the adaptive benefits of wing transparency in moths:
The coevolutionary arms race between prey and predator has generated some of the most striking adaptations in the living world, including lures, mimicry and camouflage in prey. Transparency, by definition, constitutes the perfect background matching against virtually all types of backgrounds. Transparency is common in pelagic environments where there is no place to hide.
Above: genus Carriola
Carriola tussock moths can be found in many different countries throughout Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and Malaysia. They also inhabit certain parts of China, India and Sri Lanka.

This is one of my favorite moths, tbh. I love it when moths have hyaline windows on their wings, and this genus is especially beautiful and bizarre.
