I’ve never written anything (besides like. Academic stuff and my feelings in my notes app) and never had this inclination to come up with my own plots, characters etc. Whether I decide to write something or not is impossible to determine and should not be a source of hope is what I’m saying
But it got me thinking. Would it just be Merlin cast in the Arcane universe? Sort of a modern AU? Would Arthur and Merlin be academics like Jayce and Viktor LMAO I can’t imagine that for the life of me. They’d have to discover arcane somehow more naturally or accidentally. Like Merlin is trying to get something for Arthur and being tricked into getting the gems instead?? And then they blow up the whole thing. Or Merlin is genuinely a medical student and wants to discover curing people with magic. And Arthur happens to just care for the people a lot. And then he’s in the council. With a table that is in fact round. And the other councillors are the knights. Gwen as Mel? The one who was being shady whose business Jayce has stopped immediately is Agravaine. Morgana as Jinx or Silco lool who terrorises the city (she’d have to have a whole different backstory though ahhh) Kills Merlin, we have desperate Arthur trying to get him back in whatever way possible. Giving us Machine Herald Merlin. Bonus if Arthur wasn’t very supportive of arcane initially. But his fRiEnD was dying so beliefs out the window.
Counterpoint: in Merlin BBC Arthur’s the one who’s supposed to be gone to the divine. Jayce I think sacrificed more and is the one who’s more obsessed with the safety of Viktor so that part reads more like Jayce is Merlin and Viktor is Arthur. And the transformation sorta discredits Merlin being the magic itself originally ughh
And I don’t see Merlin doing the glorious evolution. A huge thing about him is that the power just can’t corrupt him. Because that power is who he is. That part would have to be really different somehow.
Alternatively (which I think my original art is closer to), Morgana is their Silco (and Zaun is druids?) with her adopted son Mordred who kills Arthur, and Merlin needs him to live so badly he turns him into a herald hence having him be (re)born of magic. And then maybe Merlin discovers that he was born with arcane like Mel (bc I just can’t imagine him not having magic) and goes to get Arthur back to his senses. Honestly sort of like trying to fix a spell that went wrong somewhere along the way. To Merlin it inexplicably rings a very distant bell
But, alternate dimension old Merlin besides statue Arthur who’s there but not really. And he’s holding the Excalibur. Ugh, that fits too well
Bonus if on their “in all timelines all possibilities” trip one of them is sent into their Merlin BBC canon. Or they both see it. Or they are sent there after the. You know 🦋💥
Anyway, those are my thoughts so far. What’s killing me about this is that to me they just switch between being Jayce and Viktor depending on the moment you take from the show and the time I take thinking about it. Two sides of the same coin or whatever
