A Message to All Mentors

Just recently, I have been into a Mentor Duty Roulette to get my daily reward and to teach some players how to run some duties, and so it happened to be Heart of the Creator. The debate was more about explaining a fight to a new player before it had its first experience or not.

I have been told that after a lot of times wiping in the fight, anybody would rather have their win safely than wiping over and over again in a fight. I cringe everytime people ignore the feelings of a new player. It is its own right to learn the fight for its first time, and if I’m being called in a Mentor roulette, I want it to experience the whole fight.

I'm more than willing to wipe over and over in order to see a player grow, and on the other face of the medal, I hate it when players get a lot of information all at once and not understand anything about it. Players need to experience their first time and then build up from there. If you give your child pasta and you never show it how to cook it, the dangers in the kitchen by trying it first hand, when it grows up it won't be able to cook pasta on its own.

As a Mentor, think about the player first. Think about how a player would experience their first time. THEN think about yourself.
