Even Ms. Grim needs a vacation now and again

Blink has experienced an incredible amount of healing over the past year or two, and I truly believe she is in the best place she has ever been. For a long time, she kept everyone and everything at a distance, terrified that those she cared about would get hurt—a fear born from a past where everyone close to her died in rapid succession.

Her journey back began when Rex brought her back to Firelight Trading Co. In that environment, she gradually learned to reconnect with others, ultimately building a found family. She has also cultivated a loving relationship with a man who truly and deeply loves her for exactly who she is, without wanting to change her core self.  Who only inspires her to reach and achieve further improvement and greatness.

This newfound openness is likely why Siyoh had the brilliant idea around last Starlight to give Jasper to Blink as a gift. Siyoh managed to convince her to keep him by suggesting that Jasper could assist with her responsibilities as Head of Security, serving as a loyal companion trained to help with her job. I am fairly certain that practical justification is the only reason Blink originally agreed to take him.

Naturally, Jasper quickly became far more than just a professional partner—he is completely her boy! She takes immense pride in how exceptionally well-trained he is, and at this stage, she cares for him much more like a son than a pet. What she fails to see is how profoundly Jasper has opened her heart. Tending to his needs has forced her to carve out personal time, whether they are visiting a park or she’s letting him sprint along the beach. In those quiet moments, she is discovering how to experience child-like joy and whimsy again.

Even if she does not fully realize it yet, Jasper represents another vital milestone in her ongoing healing process.
