Odell Rella

Zelda walked further into the room and picked up the bottle. “How much of this did you console them with?” She teased dumping the empty bottle into the garbage. “And who was it?”

“That’s the 3rd bottle baby,“ Odell had a lazy smile on his face and made grabby hands at Zelda, wanting her to sit in his lap. “Nils Vasu.“

“That we’re all alive? That Mercury is about to be in retrograde? My promotion? Ben finding his stash of guitar picks?” She rambled off, clearly not seeing the need for a reason. “Are you getting old Rella? Don’t remember how to party?”

“I’ll choose to go with Mercury’s retrograde.“ He laughed. “Man, I’m just missing the open road and a new city every weekend.”

“Nope.” Gretchen had just finished setting the lights in the apartment to different colors with her phone. The smart bulbs were placed all around in lamps and light fixtures to let her control the vibe of the room. “You just missed everyone leaving to go get the libations. Where’s Zel?” She took the dish from Milo’s hand and led them to the kitchen. “Vodka and Tequila are next to the mixers. The whiskey, gin, and White Claws are coming back with Luke and Silas from the beer run. And Ben is returning with the weed. And other things I already know you’re going to shoot down.”

“Nah, we’re good. She’s coming over with Shannon and Vee a little later.“ Odell shrugged, following her into the kitchen. He rolled his eyes when Seth and Milo hooted and hollered at Gretchen’s list. “And what are we celebrating again?“

Zelda shut the door to Odell’s quietly. “Tequila? At,” She checked her phone, “10 in the morning? That’s a choice.” 

“Did something happen?”

“Its from last night.“ Odell groaned, holding his head. “It wasn’t exactly what I had in mind at the beginning of the night.“

“Oh hell yeah and when we kick y’alls’ ass. You can buy us drinks.”  Ebony boasted 

Odell laughed and agreed to their terms. He was happy everyone was getting along while they got in line and suited up. At one point he pulled Milo, Angel and Seth aside to warn them about keeping themselves under control. Odell had dealt with Imani and other Anderson’s before but never had he run into Ebony. He was unsure if she knew about them but they definitely knew about her. He was playing with fire but she genuinely seemed friendly when they first met. After dishing out his warning they walked back to the ladies. “Ready? I think we have 5 minutes to get into position then the game begins.”

“Oh. Hey! What’s up, Zels?“

“Sup.” She nodded to Zelda and Seth then turned to the others with a pleasant smile “Nice to meet y’all. Hope you’re ready for a good game.”

Odell smiled as everyone reacted kindly towards Ebony. “Wait... Damn, this is perfect!” he laughed, before explaining that there was 4 of each gender. “Girls vs guys?”

“I’ll try to be on my best behavior.” 

“I’ve only ever seen you on your best behavior... YO!“ Odell yelled when he spotted his group and waved over to them. Without thinking twice, he already had Zelda in his arms and kissed her head. “Alright, I found our 8th. Ebony, you already know Zells and Seth,” he said pointing them out as he went. “That’s Zelda’s sister, Shannon. Shannon’s BFF Vanessa but feel free to call her Vee. My homeboy Milo and his little friend Angel. Everybody this is Ebony. She’s cool.” 

“Lead the way.” She smirked “How many friends are we looking for?” 

“7. Perfect timing ‘cause you’re making it 8. You know Seth and Zelda. Zell’s sister and her best friend is with us. I’m sure you’re going to either love them or hate them. Probably meet somewhere in-between.“

“Yeah, it’s gonna be rad as hell. The rats are joining at some point too.” Gretchen switched paint brushes and started working on the orange section. “I don’t know what you’re expecting to see that I didn’t already show you last year. I’ve been in charge of this thing for 6 years now?”

“Fuck me, Gretch! Did you just say rad? Are we in the 80s again? Where’s your skateboard?“ He teased. “6 years without an accident?!“

Gretchen groaned and grabbed the top of Odell’s head to steady him. “Seth is a big boy who can stand alone for a few minutes, and if he can’t, I’m sure Zel is right next to him.”

“Bar crawl with Clan Hyena, Jackal and Nimble this year...“ Odell rolled his eyes and allowed her to keep him steady. “You’re the boss alpha. I’m ready to see you in work.“

“Same, they weren’t kidding when they said curiosity killed the cat.” She slid her phone back into her pocket “Nah I’ll keep it to myself, she’s probably heard it before. What we should talk about is how we’re going to split into teams.”

“You’re full of jokes,“ Odell hid his suspicion, wondering if what she said had an intended double meaning. “Question is are we on the same team or opposing. I have a feeling you could be a challenge. Come on, let go find the others.” 

She unlocked her phone before handing it over. “Don’t go snooping through my pictures now.” She teased 

“The Legend of Zelda.”

“I learned that lesson when I was still in High School,“ Odell laughed, putting his number in her phone and calling his own to have hers saved. “You have to tell my girlfriend that. I haven’t heard that one in years.“

“I can definitely make that happen.” 

“That’s a pretty game like from the video game. Sure I’ll join if you don’t mind.” 

Cool, give me your phone,” Odell asked, holding out his hand for her device. “I’ll put my number in it.”

“That’d be great. I’m Ebony, you’re Odell right? It’s nice to see you again.”

“Who’s with you this time Seth and your girlfriend?”

“Ebony! Yeah. I remember now. Nice to see you too. We have to get you’re number.“
