Was UMaine everyone's first choice? Why did everyone pick it :)

For Ray, it was. Him and Jan both planned to go to college together when they were still dating and applied to about 5 or so in state schools. There were 2 that both of them got accepted into it, the other being University of Southern Maine. So they both committed to UMaine, and both of them still went even though they broke up before graduation.

It was not Pete's first choice school, he actually decided on it after almost going to Georgia State. He applied to 3 schools and got accepted into all of them, the other being Montclair State University, but he decided he didn't wanna stay in New Jersey.

Hank and Clementine both picked UMaine because Clementine had agreed with her best friend Cordelia when they were in 5th grade they'd go the same college, so she got Hank to apply to all the same schools she and Cordelia did since they already eloped. They applied to about 6, UMaine was the first one to accept all 3 of them.

Art's dream school was LSU, but he applied to UMaine after getting waitlisted to LSU and ended up sticking with it. It was the only out of state school he applied to, out of 6 total.

Stebbins is at UMaine on a scholarship, he got a few other partial scholarship offers to other schools, a few for track, but since he quit track after high school and UMaine was a full ride, that's why he chose it.

Barkovitch only applied to out of state schools, especially after his MeeMaw died he had no desire or reason to stay in Florida. He applied to 4 schools, however he was only accepted into UMaine, and was waitlisted at American University.

I kind of struggled to come up with why Collie picked UMaine because of how far from his homestate it is, especially when South Dakota state is also good for engineering, so I settled on him getting a partial academic scholarship at UMaine.

Harkness's dream school was NYU, however he did not get in. He also applied at Rutgers, where his older brother went to college/is going to law school, and he was waitlisted. He applied to 8 schools, a mix of in state and out of state. He finally settled on UMaine.

Did Hank and Clementine have to live on campus their first year?

Yes they did since UMaine does require freshman to live on campus, Patrick Smith was Hanks freshman year roommate, Clementines roommate was Nicolette Sterling, Tressler's girlfriend

Fanfic concept I'm planning: The Long Walk but if they were a cliche early 2010s Disney channel movie

Ray - the vanilla lead. Unpopular high schooler who will abandon his friends and morals the second he becomes popular. William is of course dead and he's got some stepdad he hates but is gonna accept by the end of the movie.

Pete - equally vanilla love interest. Is also one of the popular kids and hottest guy in school. Once Ray starts acting like a popular asshole he'll probably be like "I liked you the way you were" or something cliche like that.

Hank - best friend who will be abandoned the second Ray becomes popular, because he never cared about being popular.

Art - other best friend who will be abandoned the second Ray becomes popular, because he never cared about being popular.

Stebbins - side character with like 3 minutes of screen time who only exists to say weird/quirky one liners, will finally speak at one point by standing up to the evil principal (good for you, wait, who are you again?)

Barkovitch - popular kid/bully who's gonna fake befriend Ray and is later revealed to have a shitty home life. If it's like prom king or battle of the bands or something Ray will probably let him win too.

Collie - in the popular clique who the writers randomly decide he's gonna have his own arc in like the last 15 minutes of the movie. (he's had 5 minutes of screen time)

Harkness - mindless member of the popular clique. Barely relevant to the plot.

Curley - annoying younger sibling. Also lowkey irrelevant to the plot until Ray finally starts getting along with him. Has no problem with the stepdad Ray hates.

Rank - background character. Hes not important but is in the background of every scene.

Tressler - background character who's always listening to music.

Pearson - constantly trying to join the group and they never let him.

The Major - evil principal who tries to ban music or cancel prom or something. Stebbins is going to dramatically reveal that the Major is his father in a scene where he finally speaks and stands up for himself.

Ginny - Either engaged or remarried to a guy that Ray hates for simply not being his dad. Ray's also gonna fight with her when he's in with the popular crowd because she's concerned that he's acting so different by being like "this isn't like you, you're better than this" and he's gonna be like "you don't even know me! You haven't paid any attention to me since dad died!", they're gonna make up after he's already screwed up with everyone else in a scene surprisingly well written for a Disney Channel movie
