I've been getting back into comics while I wait for more info from my concept job, and I thought I'd make a post about something very important to me, which is COMIC PANEL VARIATION and HOW TO THINK ABOUT IT.
Also, yes, before you ask, these rules can absolutely be broken. I strategically break them to create a noticeable shift or flow in the storytelling, like so:
You can also probably make your own set of 5 IN 5 rules! I like to draw facial expressions and backgrounds and hands (like a masochist), so my 5 in 5 is definitely geared towards that. If you like to make more quiet, introspective comics, you could throw in a panel with NO DIALOGUE every 5 pages, or a mood panel with no characters, for example!

entries close at midnight (est) on november 27th!
for those not in the know, the gift exchange is pretty self explanatory: to join, just let me know via reblog/reply/dm what youd like for a gift. then, you'll be randomly assigned a giftee and will make a gift based on their request. Finally, once the day comes, you post your gift and @ the person its for!
this years timeline looks like this:
Nov 11-27: join by letting me know what youd like! this can be ocs, ships, shows, so long as its object show related (and sfw) you can request anything youd like! as well, if theres something in particular you cant do--like a ship that particularly skeeves you, for instance--please let me know when you join!
Dec 1: ill tell you who your randomly assigned giftee is! please be sure your dms are open so i can message you, and let me know youve gotten the message once youve seen it
Dec 1-30: make your gift! you can make art, poetry, music, crochet, so long as it includes your giftee's request what you make is up to you!
Dec 31: Post your gift, and @ the person its for in the post! Please do not post your gift before this date!!!!!
other rules and things to note:
if youd like an oc, please remember to send along a reference when you join!
theres no limit to the amount of things you can ask for, just know that your gifter doesnt have to make all of them. so if you ask for 10 different characters, know that your gift might only feature one of them!
if you have a conflict and wont be able to post on the 31st, or if you need to drop out for any reason, please message me ahead of time and let me know so we can sort something out!! this also applies to deleting your blog and the like--if you cant reach me on tumblr, you can also message me on bluesky (@ bumblebeeberry) or discord (thatonegaycat)
you cant join anonymously! I just dont consider it fair to the giftee
if needed, i can bar you from participating if i see fit. probably wont happen, but in case it does ill message you to let you know
