.@grinnerandsinnerâ Jason hadnât honestly relapsed into the Red Hood for years, once he started becoming a social worker it was like he regained control of his own life again. But all of his new life had shattered before him, replaced with deadly, familiar feelings. Familiar feelings that triggered the switch between Jason Todd and The Red Hood. The switch that Jason spent years in therapy trying to handle. Years of therapy that promptly went down the toilet when glass rained from the sky and everyone seemed to change. It was a good cover, he thought to himself. Blame the negative emotions on the world around him, use it as an excuse when someone inevitably would try to stop him. The old feelings boiled up and out of him, and he left his apartment without warning. Up and abandoning a cup of tea on the table. Was it like he vanished into thin air? Pretty much. The Red Hood knew what he was doing. He was going to get revenge, not like he had much of a choice. Before Batman caught up with him he was so deep into the process, but he picked up where he left off. All of his gear was at a nearby safe house, and he spent no time getting it on. His identity was once again concealed, hidden under red metal and gun holsters. Tracking down the Joker wasnât the hardest thing in the world, it came to the Hood as easily as breathing. Heâd known the bastard was in Star City for quite some time, it just boiled down to finding the right warehouse. And in broad daylight, he knew the Joker wasnât there. He went up into the rafters and from there it was a waiting game, a glorious, horribly boring waiting game. Even when the Joker arrived, he stayed completely still, eavesdropping on the conversation before deciding it was his time to strike. He pulled a smoke bomb from one of the many pockets in his jacket and let it drop right into the Jokerâs lap. âPeekaboo, you cackling freak,â he announced, flipping out of the rafters and landing on top of the clown, going for instant restraint. It was now or never, and he wasnât fucking around.

There were worse things Jason could do than bring in children in need, but that didnât make Bruce any less concerned about the situation. Star Cityâs government, including their department overseeing foster care and services for children, was not exactly in tiptop shape.Â
âFine. Bring me copies of their files.â He had several reasons for asking, but didnât offer any of them aloud. Even as Bruce Wayne, he had connections with several institutions and programs much more capable than any in Star City.
And that was why Jason had gotten involved. He knew how tricky a system could be, and he was just one of the rebelling cogs in the puzzle, helping children in the way they needed to be helped in. âI will donât worry about that. Iâm a professional now.â He looked over at the kids, offering a kind smile. âItâs okay, heâs my dad, he wonât hurt you guys.â Jason had called Bruce for his connections, these kids wouldnât be safe in Star Cityâs system. They needed so much more than that, they needed someone who could take care of them properly, and actually care about them. He slowly stood up with the young one and walked the others around the living room to pick up their bags, offering soft words of encouragement, closely followed by, âThereâs dogs, so you guys will have a fun time,â and one of the kids gasping loudly and looking at Bruce with nothing but excitement on his face.  âThank you, by the way,â he called over his shoulder.Â
commissionerjgâ:
âShouldnât be your job to be getting him anywhere.â What a perfect world that wouldâve been. Even back in Gotham, itâs not like the police could handle everything. Too much got handed to the other cogs in the machine. In Star City, the stakes were just a little bit higher. There were too many people not on their side. Maybe he was coming off that way, too.Â
Jim tucked his hands into his pockets and stood up straight again, taking a cursory glance at the I.D. card. He couldâve called it in, made sure it was legitimate, but that wouldâve just wasted everyoneâs time and kept them standing out there even longer. So he just nodded for him to put it away. âIâm Jim Gordon,â he told the kid, which didnât seem to ease his mind much. He couldnât blame him. âAnd thatâs exactly what Iâm going to do. Lead the way.â He couldâve tucked them both in the car, but certain people tended to follow the police rather than avoid them just to see what mayhem they could get up to.
âWell it is my job,â a silent, asshole was between the words but he punctuated his sentence with a glare. The kid stood a little closer, if possible, and Jason made sure to hide him, fully wrapping an arm around him. Jason put the i.d card away, patting his pocket. He put his other hand on the kidâs shoulder and looked down at him, âItâs okay, heâs not a bad guy,â he kept his voice quiet. âHeâs a friend, I know him, which means heâs good. Okay?â The kid nodded but didnât look Jim in the eyes, and Jason led the way to his apartment. If anything happened he had a taser tucked away in his belt, which wouldnât do much but it was the only weapon his office permitted for night calls. Which was.. underwhelming. Heâd prefer a gun, something short range because honestly? He didnât trust anyone who prowled Star Cityâs streets. Once his building came into view the kid peeled off his leg in exchange for holding his hand, progress, slow progress. Jason turned and looked over at Jim. âAre we free to go now?â

It was easy to forget the reason why he was here as soon as he saw the children. Bruce was silent, frowning as he took in the scene, but this type of weakness was a simple one for Jason to exploit. His money went to all the local orphanages and safe houses; it didnât matter if they were for humans or mutants. He had a soft spot for anyone incapable of taking care of themselves. Wayne Enterprises famously donated to various organizations that benefited children. It was a cause he personally believed in, especially after nearly being put into the system himself. If it werenât for Alfred, there was no telling where he would have ended up.Â
âWhy?â He wasnât saying no. He couldnât. But he wasnât going to agree without understanding every bit of the situation he could. âWhere are their parents?â Perhaps he knew the answer already, but he wanted to hear it from Jason.
Jason had looked up at him with a blank look, because the question was easy enough to answer. âThe father is in jail and the mother is currently in the hospital. They need somewhere to stay for the week, somewhere safe until their files get sent to Star Cityâs foster system for review,â he carded his fingerâs through the younger oneâs hair. âTheyâre good kids, between the therapy appointments they have set up and their sports, they wonât be a hassle,â there was a fondness in his eyes when he talked about them. Because they were good kids and didnât deserve what was happening to them.Â
@redbxrn
âBad enough to be out on your own breaking curfew,â Jim said as soon as heâd opened the door of the squad car and stepped out. He paused a few paces away from Jason and the younger child whoâd been walking with him. âNow youâre dragging a kid into it, too.â
He knelt down and held out his hand toward the child. âThe streets arenât safe at this hour. And Iâm not just talking about criminals.â Then again, as far as he was concerned NOVA was criminal.
âYep,â Jason popped the p in his words dramatically, looking over his shoulder at the commissioner. The poor kid had his face tucked so tightly behind his leg that he was pretty sure he was gonna break his nose. He wasnât going to give Gordon the details though, not until he knew the kid was home safe. âIâm just making sure he gets home safe,â and by home safe he meant at his home for probably the next week. Star City was a shithole for kids, comparable to Gotham in a lot of ways. He put the top of his hand on the kidâs shoulder for reassurance. âHeâs shy.. anyways,â he dug around his pocket and produced his work identification card, âIâm also a government worker, yada yada. So if you wouldnât mind escorting us to the lovely apartment building down the block?â
[ @justicealwaysprevails]Â
You know, Jason wasnât the type of person to call home. If he needed something heâd show up at the front door and ask for it, always straight forward in that sort of way. However, when you were saddled with four kids and told to figure it out, you didnât have a choice. Jason was sitting in his apartment with the kids, two of them laying across his lap and the other two leaning against his shoulders. Finally, he picked up. Jason started speaking before Bruce could, âHey, quick question. Would you mind if I kept four kids at the manor for I dunno... a week or so? I know we have the room but I figured itâd be good to ask first. I can cover everything for them, my apartment just doesnât have enough room to fit them all.â It was three in the morning, and the poor kids needed a good place to sleep, not odd spots on his apartment floor.Â
*Jason Todd voice* they say itâs all good in the hood, but does anyone ever ask the Hood if heâs good? no, they donât, and no, iâm not
