Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.
It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.
It's not just rude to make me read something you didn't want to write. It is that you expect me to respond to your email written by Claude. You don't even want me to talk to you. You want me to talk to Claude so that you can make Claude respond for you. It is rude to expect me to talk to a chatbot when I wanted to talk to you.

Viktor slowly and wistfully ran his hand over the back of Ximena's sofa and the afghan that always laid over it, feeling the familiar texture of it almost reverently. He was here. “Viktor, I’m so happy you’re here.” The words came out of her mouth with such sincerity and adoration. She beamed at him as she approached.
Viktor held up the gift he brought her, transferring it to her hands.
“Honey, you didn’t need to bring me anything.”
“On the contrary. I couldn’t break tradition,” he insisted, smiling weakly.
“It’s a jade plant. Hopefully you don’t already have one.”
“I don’t. This is quite thoughtful, Viktor, thank you.”
She set the plant on the end table and pulled him into a hug, one so tight and earnest that it pushed his dream-like state over the barrier into real, tangible emotion.
He hugged her back and began to feel tears prickle in his eyes. Competing emotions rose like a flood through him. An ocean of feeling swelling in his chest and pooling in his gut and settling in his throat. It felt too good to be true. For years he thought he’d never see this place again, and the tears began to trail down his cheeks as he let it truly sink in that this place was no longer lost to him.
“Welcome home, mijo,” she whispered, as though sensing his thoughts. They stayed like that for several moments. It wasn’t until they heard Jayce’s footsteps descending towards the kitchen again that they broke apart.
