Drew winced from where he was splayed out on the ground. “You might well laugh but I mean, I’ve never done this before.”

“You’ve never ridden a bike?” Bekah blinked at the other in disbelief. “You poor thing, it’s like a milestone of childhood! I could try and teach you if you’d be up for it?”

“Why is it always the smallest of things people lose.” Eliza huffed slightly as she got up from where she was reading her book to start scouring around them, “I hate to think of how you remove your jewelry if it could be all the way over here.”

“I swear I took it off normally. I don’t know why it ended up on the other side of the room. I must’ve kicked it over or something.”

“Something like that I guess you could say. I mean, I have experienced more than most anyway with my power.” He said with a little shrug of his shoulders. “Might as well earn my keep right?” Drew answered with a wink. “And what makes you think my life is exciting?”

“I mean you’re a hero who can time travel. What’s not exciting about that?” Bekah insisted, speaking as though she couldn’t believe why he even had to ask that. “Or do you have a counterargument to that you’d like to voice?”

“People aren’t charity cases. Not to me,” Avery said, “Otherwise I’d be a pro bono lawyer. I also don’t jump to conclusions like you just did. Twice, if you count the thinking I was just being nosy thing and the dubbing you a charity case thing.”

“Knowing people is part of my job,” Avery said, “But I was actually trying to be nice. Won’t make that mistake again.”

“No… I don’t think I recall that at all. Nothing like that in fact.” Drew answered with a little smile on his lips. “Ah, you know. Malum… life… It’s been busy.” He said with a small shrug of his shoulders. “What about you though?”

“Memory of a goldfish, hmm?” she poked further. “I can only imagine. A hero’s work is never done, huh? Well good to know they keep you busy,” Bekah replied. “Not much. My life isn’t nearly as exciting as yours is.”

“Are you just gonna sit there or are you gonna say whatever it is that’s giving you worry lines?” Avery asked.

“You haven’t seen a black studded earring around here anywhere, have you?” Rebekah asked, addressing her twin sister whilst looking in the mirror. “I seem to have lost it.”

“Last I recall you mentioned something about getting me a muffin and a drink?” Bekah teased the other as she saw him approaching. “What’s up, Drew? You okay?”

“Hold on…” Drew began, giving Rebekah a puzzled look. “At what point did I mention gender? I just said it was cute and that it would clash with my hair.” He pointed out. “I mean, if you wanna go there…” He teased. “As for that… if it looks like it is valuable or might have some significance to someone, maybe drop it off in a nearby shop. Better than the elements getting to it.”

“Fair enough,” she replied, raising her hands up as if in defense. “Does it?” Rebekah blinked, trying to think if the item had worth or not. If Drew thought so, perhaps there was truth to it. “Yeah that’s a good idea. Let’s do that.”

There was a serious level of concentration on Eliza’s face, her tongue was sticking out and her eyebrows were furrowed as she tried to focus on her powers to ice over a small patch of snowdrops in the grass. What she didn’t account for was someone sneaking up on her, causing her to turn too quickly, icing the patch under their feet with a small squeal. “Merde, I’m so sorry- are you okay.”

“It’s ok– it’s ok,” she insisted with a chuckle, melting the ice patch down. “I’m okay. But the question is, are you? I didn’t mean to spook you.”

A snort left Drew when he saw what she was holding up. “I mean, cute as it is, pink isn’t really my colour. It’d clash with my hair.” He couldn’t help but joke. “But no, not mine.”

“Hey, pink isn’t just a feminine color,” she pointed out, but the let a out a soft chuckle, “I guess it would clash with your hair.” When it turned out he was not the owner, Bekah shrugged, “Hmm should I just leave it here or keep asking around?”

“I’ve never really had the greatest control over my powers,” Kennedy admitted. “So like how can I make it easier?”

“I mean I’m sure you’ve heard this countless times– but it starts with a whole lot of practice,” she replied. “With this move though, like I said; release before finishing the gesture. Give it a try.”

“Have you made resolutions for the New Year?” Rebekah asked him curiously. “I’m kind of hoping you’ll say no so I feel less terrible about myself,” she added with a chuckle.

“Oh– was it you that dropped this?” Bekah asked, holding up the item to the young man.
