“I know right? I’m a little surprised myself,” Billie let out a light laugh at his comment as he moved to sit beside her. “I guess it’s nice. Not much is going on but perhaps that’s not so bad,” she shrugged, looking around at others attending the party before looking to him. “Did you come with anybody or are you flying solo tonight?”

“It’s not bad at all. Most of the time too much is going on. You have to enjoy these moments that allow you to breathe and just take it all in.” Drew told the girl lightly. “I think most things would seem slow to you because you tend to run at such a fast pace.” At the mention of a companion, Drew shook his head. “Nope. Just me. I’ll probably catch up with Pen at some point though.” It was rare these days that they went an event without spending at least some time together.

Gabriel jumped slightly when the clattering occurred, turning to look at a collapsed tent once more. “What makes you think I’ll be any better at this?” he asked as he came over to help Drew. “Can’t we just book a hotel or something? This is so unnecessarily complicated.”

“You’re supposed to be good at fixing things aren’t you?” Drew pointed out, sounding a little bit pathetic at this point. “I used to love lying under the stars but I can’t remember struggling so much with this side of things. Maybe tents have got more complicated over the years.” He sighed, dropping to sit on the grass in front of the mess he’d created. “I swear it’ll be fun... if we can get this stupid fucker up. Much better than a hotel.”

“I don’t remember this being so hard back when I was younger...” Not that he’d had all that much practice and the tent wasn’t quite like this one. “Shit!” He exclaimed as the poles clattered on top of him sending the tent down again. “Oh for fuck sake... You need to come do this Gabe.”

“What is this? Have you actually strayed away from your script to spend a little time partying, hm?” Drew teased as he gave the girl a gentle nudge and moved to settle beside her. “I kind of feel like it’d be stupid to miss out on this. It only happens occasionally. It’s a nice way to just relax.”

“Honestly? Just another one of those cop shows,” Billie admitted with a sigh. “If I got this, I’d least I’d have a speaking role. Last time I was just corpse number three.” The redhead was so passionate, but just couldn’t quite make her big break. “They actually give you days off over at HQ? Shocker,” she teased. “Can they summon you with some sort of Bat Signal whenever need be?” Belinda added the question playfully. “Oooh– coffee,” she cooed. “Have any extra for me?”

Drew could see the desire to do well in Billie and he couldn’t help but smile a little. “I’m sure you’re gonna blow them away but sure. I’ll get you a coffee and a cookie as good luck gifts if you want.” He offered warmly. “But no, we’re not in a comic book here...” He said with a chuckle. “They could just as easily text me but there are always others around to help. I’m not the only hero here.” He stated, before turning the papers that she had in front of her a little. “Now is there anything I can do to help you practice?”

Billie let out a light snort at his reply as Drew slid into the booth despite her light protests. “It’s nothing personal– I usually don’t want anyone’s company when I’m rehearsing,” she pointed out. “So, no hero work today or something?”

“Ah, and what is it you are rehearsing for this time?” Drew couldn’t help but ask curiously as he leaned in to get a better look. “And no, I have a day off. Occasionally I’m allowed those and I thought I’d use it to just... power down completely you know? I tried sleeping in but that was a massive fail so I settled for a coffee run instead because i’m sure I’ll be grateful of it later.”

“Has been for a while now.” Jude commented, “But I’m fine, MALUM just screwing up my life as it likes to do with the majority of us.” Jude added, “I was actually looking for someone who could potentially help me out.”

“Ah...” He spoke a little knowingly, nodding his head. “They have a way of working their way into everything, don’t they.” Drew spoke with a soft sigh, stretching out his legs little in front of him. “Oh? What are you looking for? Or is that a private thing?” He asked after a moment. 

“Part of me is wondering what you would define as something exciting, I can’t imagine too many exciting things happening in a room like that.”

“Ah you’d be surprised. I can usually find ways to amuse myself.” Drew answered with a little bit of a shrug. “You seem a little... off though.” He said simply. “Like your mind was elsewhere.”

“Last time I checked, you had a spine and pair of balls? But maybe I’m wrong,” Penny shot back, “I’m not that scary, you can argue with me you know. Take the damn map and fix this or we’ll die in these woods.”

“Yes, but I’d like to keep them in the proper places so I let you take the lead. Besides, the only way you’d believe me when I say you are wrong is by letting you prove it first.” Drew answered with a chuckle as he took the map off the girl.

“Oh if you had your doubts about me with the map, why’d you give it to me anyway?” Penny huffed, throwing it in his direction.

“I believe you pretty much snatched it up. Something about you being good at this and me not being good at it. Apparently anyway.”

“We are not lost,” Penny insisted, turning the map around, “We’re here, see?” She said, pointing but then her brow furrowed, “I think… Wait.”

“Mhm...” Drew didn’t sound convinced as he leaned against one of the trees and folded his arms. He watched as she twisted the map around. “You were saying?”

“I don’t know how this is your fault, but I’m going to blame you for it anyways.” Esme commented as she tried to ring her hair out, her shirt was drenched and her jeans were stuck to her legs. “How much further till your place? Because I will be stealing your shower and some spare clothes, you have now say. Cause as I mentioned- this is somehow your fault.”

“You know, you are unreasonably harsh where I am concerned.” Drew answered with a grin. “My place is about two minutes away. I don’t recall inviting you. I may just lock you out.”

“This is what I get for trusting you with the map.” Drew teased, laughing softly. It was a nice day at least and it was still early so they were in no rush. He was certain they’d figure it out before dusk came. “Seriously though, we are rubbish at this.

“I hope you know I am blaming you for this.” Drew commented jovially as he blew water from his upper lip while they ran. “Come on, we need to get somewhere... less wet.” He stated, grabbing Ophelia’s hand to drag her along.

“Sure, I’d love that!” Penny said, smiling brightly, “Just let me know when you’re free and we can arrange something.”

“Can do.” He said with a little grin on his face. “I might even let you convince me to do the whole face mask thing too.”
