“Honestly I can’t think of anything more awful than sleeping on the ground,” Fleur shook her head after she clinked her glass with theirs. She was glad this trip was suggested instead, if only so she didn’t have to make up an excuse not to go camping with her cousin and his friends. “I don’t think I could sleep on anything but a luxurious mattress at this point, who needs the backache?” 

“ To a tent-free weekend, indeed, ” Juliette chimed in, savoring the chime of their glasses colliding before taking a long sip of champagne. Avery and Fleur were the best part of her assignment in Grove Harbour, but the rest of their… ragtag childhood gang of sorts ? Juliette would pay to see less of them, although she supposed she had to at least play nice with Veronica and Levi. “ Did we sign up for the hot stone massage session ? We missed it last time because the girl had strep. My shoulders haven’t been this tense since finals week at the Academy. ”

“Though I would pay to see my brother try and put up a tent. I hope someone films that,” Avery said with an amused smirk and then she raised an eyebrow, “Of course we did, what do you take me for? A fool?” She teased, “You think finals at the Academy were bad? Try law school,” Sometimes she wished she had gone to the Academy but then she would still be in law school now. She didn’t like using her abilities anyway.

“Oh,” Jordi laughed, wiping his mouth with a napkin. “Some chocolate covered strawberries, but they kind of melted on the way here. I swear I’m not usually like this.”

“Cheers ladies. To a tent-free weekend,” Avery said, clinking her glasses with theirs and then drinking some of the champagne. Her brother always did have the craziest ideas and camping definitely came in the top five, “The only nature I want to see this weekend is cucumbers in the water and the seaweed from the seaweed wrap we’ll be having later. Agreed?”

“Yeah you don’t seem like the food truck type– although I would kill to see you eat at a street food festival, not gonna lie.”

“Alright I’ll start slowly pouring funds into a separate account for it.”

“Rivera– long time no see,” she smiled back in greeting. “Hah, something like that,” Celeste laughed it off when in reality that was all too accurate. “I trust your eye so I’m looking forward to a long overdue shopping trip with you. As much as I wish it was back in SoHo or something, I’ll take what I can get,” she added.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Jordi then put his hand to his mouth. “Do I have something in my teeth or something?”

“Thanks! I’ll definitely keep that in mind,” Myles added. “I feel like people need a lawyer for just about anything. I don’t suppose there’s anything a lawyer can do about an overly friendly and kind of annoyingly nosy neighbour, is there?” she joked. 

“Was it foolish of me to expect a warmer welcome?” Celeste remarked almost to herself, looking around the town that she didn’t find impressive the slightest. What was her brother doing here? What was anyone doing here? She wanted nothing more than to hop on a jet back to Manhattan as soon as possible. “I guess while I’m here… might as well,” she sighed slightly to herself before approaching somebody on the street, “Hey– excuse me! So what is it that people do for fun around here? Could you direct me to some sort of shopping district perhaps?”

“I’ve often got other things on the brain. Other things being… work or food,” she admitted with a chuckle.

“Aww, I wouldn’t say scary!” Mylene insisted, thinking of it as a negative. “More like a boss, you know, commanding respect. Unless you prefer scary, then yeah I’m totally terrified,” she laughed. “I’m Mylene by the way, I’m not sure I mentioned that. Thankfully I haven’t needed a lawyer for anything yet.”

“Maybe we should just start our own firm some day? Like you said, we’re better than everyone else in that place combined.”
