As the twins grew older, their individual personalities began to show more and more.

Margaret, with her dark coloured hair was every bit as sweet as the heart-shaped birthmark on her forehead would suggest. She was quiet and considerate, and loved her parents and her sister deeply.

Harriet meanwhile, was far more wild, with lighter hair that was difficult to tame into the braids that matched her sister’s. She loved to laugh and tease her siblings, and was running around the house and the yard almost as soon as she could walk.

Both girls though loved more than anything to play outside in the flowers and the leaves, and to listen to their father’s many fantastical stories.

JULY 26, 1999. GAUCELIN, IVERNY— Just over a year from Iverny's fairytale wedding of the century comes the fruit of the Prince and Princess of Romilly's union: a new Princess of Iverny has been born.

DETAILS ABOUT THE BIRTH. Princess Natalie, formerly known as Natalie Herron, was admitted with symptoms of labor in the early hours of Sunday morning to West Bettany Hospital in the Rossignol neighborhood of Gaucelin. Described as one of the finest hospitals in Gaucelin, West Bettany underwent significant renovations in 1995 to increase capacity and modernize the aesthetics of the facility. The Princess is notable for choosing a public physician, Dr. Anne-Louise Giroux, to deliver her child. The yet-unnamed Princess Romilly is the first baby in Ivernian history to be delivered by a physician employed by the Ivernian Health System instead of a private doctor. Sources close to the palace said that Princess Natalie "places a lot of trust in the IHS, especially given her background, and wanted to use her position to advocate for public care."

Royal supporters began to camp outside of West Bettany after Clemons Palace announced the Princess's labor on Sunday morning. Princess Natalie's mother, Mrs. Jayne Herron, was spotted entering an alternate entrance of the hospital around 1:30pm Sunday afternoon, leading watchers to suspect that a child had been born. However, a spokesperson from the Palace stated that the Princess called upon her mother for "support" and that the arrival of a new prince or princess would be announced soon after it happened.

Sure enough, right at 7:00am on Monday, Clemons Palace issued a statement to the press, placed an easel in the palace courtyard, and uniquely, put a notice on the new Palace website. The Prince and Princess emerged from the hospital at 10:00am, holding their newborn daughter in front of a boisterous crowd tossing pink flowers and waving Ivernian flags. The clouds and rain from the previous evening had cleared, and bright, warm sunshine illuminated the happy family. Princess Natalie wore a bespoke green and floral patterned dress, accessorized with pink flats and a matching pink headband. Sources close to the Princess stated that she "chose the dress due to the blue and pink flowers, and had two pairs of shoes and two headbands ready for whichever gender the child turned out to be."

Statements of congratulations were sent from the offices of several domestic and foreign leaders, including the Prime Minister of Iverny Deirdre Lamarre, the President of Caerinion Eoghan Grádaigh, the President of France Jacques Chirac, King Louis V and Queen Irene of Sunderland, King Everard III, King of the Armoricans, and Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

Top baby name odds were Frederick (10/1), Philip (10/1), or Charles (12/1) for a boy. Current top name odds for a girl are Alexandra (6/1), Augusta (8/1), Catherine (8/1), Jane (10/1), Matilda (10/1), and Frederica (12/1). Elizabeth (18/1) declined in the odds due to the association with the British monarch.

Crown Prince Richard addressed a member of the press that asked him how it felt to be a father. "The best feeling in the world," he said. "Natalie was incredible, and so is our little one." The Princess laughed in response to another question on how the labor went. "It was a lot of hard work. I'm so glad she's here." The infant princess looks to have a full head of red hair just like her mother's.

WILL SHE BE QUEEN? Of course, the excitement of a new princess is not without its controversy. Since such ultrasound technology has become available, it has become courtesy in Iverny for expectant royal parents and their medical providers not to know the gender of their child before birth. This is especially true in cases of direct succession. The Absolute Primogeniture Law failed in the Assembly in 1997 and again in 1998, with legislators citing the difficulties in "reorganizing" the royal family's line of succession to account for sisters and daughters. This was the same reasoning cited when a similar act failed in the Assembly in the 1960s and 1970s. While the infant Princess Romilly is second in line to the throne today, she could be displaced by the birth of a younger brother in the future. Still, some are celebrating the child who could become the first female heir apparent, and perhaps even Queen, in Iverny in over a century.
