The simplest way is to just expose the Docker socket to your CI container, by bind-mounting it with the -v flag.
Simply put, when you start your CI container (Jenkins or other), instead of hacking something together with Docker-in-Docker, start it with:
docker run -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock ... Now this container will have access to the Docker socket, and will therefore be able to start containers. Except that instead of starting “child” containers, it will start “sibling” containers.

Snappy and Flatpak are new packaging standards that are coming to Linux. They claim to solve, current problems in packaging standards like rpm and deb.
Snappy packages library dependencies along with the application, so that it doesn't conflict with library version dependency of another application. This is a good idea, but is not entirely cross platfrom for now.
Snappy is a project from Canonical. Flatpak is by a RedHat employee.

Amazon Machine Images (AWS AMI) offers two types of virtualization: Paravirtual (PV) and Hardware Virtual Machine (HVM). Each offers its own advantages.
AWS AMI uses Xen hypervisor on bare metal.
Xen offers two options:
hvm (hardware virtual machine)
pv (paravirtualisation)
HVMs can use hardware extensions which provide very fast access to underlying hardware on the host system
With Paravirtualization, the guest operating system requires some modification before everything can work. These modifications allow the hypervisor to export a modified version of the underlying hardware to the VMs, allowing them near-native performance.
