Ravenclaw Headcanons

In his third year as a student at Hogwarts, Gilderoy Lockhart, was awarded the trophy completely by accident, as earlier that month he had been awarded points in transfiguration for not showing up to class.

Many Ravenclaws find themselves drawn to surrealism in all forms. Some adore the paintings, with all the shapes, colours and bizarre creatures. Others are fascinated by the films, how they push the boundries of visuals and narratives to create an entirely new way of telling stories. Some love the fashion, ignoring how people actually dress in everyday life and creating something that looks like it belongs in a fever dream, or perhaps a different dimension. Many enjoy all of these, and more-as long as it’s weird and challenges the mind, Ravenclaws are fascinated by it

Ravenclaw Tower is full of hidden rooms that were designed to keep students curious. If a student is the first to discover a new room, their name is written on one of the walls in gold. Any other student who discovers the room thereafter gets their name written in silver.

And if you have to be told how to get there, or how to get inside, you’re name is written in bronze, since it’s not the preferred method, but you made an achievement nonetheless

There are something like five rooms with the same name written in gold. That name is Luna Lovegood. Apparently she just really loved looking for new places to hang out at with her friends that she just accidentally found an unfair number first. Nobody else has found them yet.

A few years ago a group of older Ravenclaws discovered that when the school was first founded, a masquerade ball was held annually. They went around petitioning to bring it back, but since only people in their house seemed interested they seemed to drop it. In reality there is a masquerade ball held every year, in Ravenclaw Tower. A select few teachers are made aware in advance (Flitwick because he’d find out anyway and Madame Pomfrey in case something goes wrong), but no other teachers or students are even aware of it. A small group will go into the dressmaker’s in Hogsmeade each time they visit, people will buy or borrow or make masks, and a few hours before it starts the soundproofing on the Common Room is doubled. It’s usually near the end of the year, and it’s a good opportunity to be two of the things Ravenclaws most love to be: historical and extra.

After word of the dance got out from one particularly talkative Ravenclaw, it spread like wildfire through the school. Although some Ravenclaws were reluctant to share their ball with the rest of the students, a vote was held that ruled that the ball would be open to all houses, in order to encourage the acceptance and creativity that are such key traits of the house.
