The next chapter in Mediocre discusses the racism within sports fandoms, particularly with Black men within American Football and the violence and ownership of Black bodies for the sake of white entertainment.
And what's always been funny to me is that there's an arrogance on this website and amongst media fandoms, that they're above or better than sports fandoms.
As if the white supremacy that promotes sports' fandom racism isn't the same exact white supremacy that pollutes media fandom racism!
As if the behavior and antiblackness and fragility isn't bar for bar, just because you have different interests. Y'all are cousins! Siblings, even!
Hell, even the American football fans require and include Black people in their entertainment; I am surprised I haven't seen overt "we don't want Black characters here" or "no Black fans allowed" signs on this app given how averse to the presence or mere mention of Blackness this place gets 😭

This is something I've been excited about for a little while now.. I'm now a participating artist at the independent art gallery Slice of Life! If you're not an east van local or haven't heart of it, it's a combo art gallery-art shop located in East Vancouver, and it's got a ton of cool stuff!!
I have a small selection of my stickers and prints there right now, but I'm hoping to bring in more stuff when I expand specific merch like pins/keychains.
Even cooler, I'm going to be participating in one of their weekly collective art shows!! I'll have an original pride-themed piece available for viewing at their Rainbow collective show, which is running from June 5th to the 15th. The original piece will also be available for purchase!!

We are the ones who kept Roy Moore out of office. Almost every day I get a message from a white person saying "Tell me what to do and I'll do it."
As if I haven't been writing for years. As if Black women and women of color haven't been saying what is wrong with this country for centuries. And right now, we have women of color- strong, capable women of color- in congress with solid progressive ideals and good ideas, and they are being lambasted as "too radical" and "too divisive".
Right now we have women of color who are writing about what is needed to move this country forward, and they are being dismissed as "race-baiting" and "antiwhite". And chances are, in future elections, we will again be reaching out to them and asking "What do we do now?" "How can we fix this?"
Studies have shown that pretty much anytime a white man talks about equality and justice, he is praised. It is seen as proof of his broad leadership abilities and his magnanimousness. But women of color are never praised. They are seen as bitter, devices, vindictive, and self-serving. This view hurts women of color and politics, in the office, and in academia.
We are often the most harmed by the failures of our systems to address structural inequality; we are often the first sacrifice to political compromise; we are the vote taken for granted in every single election; we are often the only group standing between an electorate and the next white supremacist representative-
and yet when we try to advocate for policies that won't have us scrambling to save everyone's asses in the eleventh hour, we are ignored or attacked."

to be honest if they did start calling us "delicate dolls" it would be an improvement, because right now they seem to think we're impervious to all forms of damage and suffering, and thus ok to abuse
ironically, calling trans women "delicate dolls" on a post about our wage gap kind of reveals the double bind of transmisogyny doesn't it? we are as vulnerable as they are and then some, yet they are perceived as being supremely vulnerable, while we are perceived as not being vulnerable at all
calling a transandrobro a "birthday boy" is meant to call attention to how they weaponize this perception of vulnerability against those even more vulnerable than them. trans women have no such perceived vulnerability to weaponize, so calling us "delicate" at all is kind of just a breath of fresh air more than anything!
