to anyone in the areas impacted by the wildfire smoke, my #1 biggest piece of advice as someone whos been dealing with wildfire smoke in the NW united states for years, is build yourself a Corsi-Rosenthal Cube

they perform as well as expensive HEPA air cleaners, and are comparatively VERY inexpensive. all you need is a box fan, 4 air filters, a piece of cardboard, and some duct tape!!!!

i think it took us maybe a half hour to put ours together, if that, and we replace the filters every 3 months. it's really made a HUGE difference, both when the air quality is bad, but also with our allergies

#repel all bugs in a heart beat i didn't even read the rest before i clicked #one time i got 53 mosquito bites over two nights (I COUNTED!!!) and my dad was bitten maybe one (1) time #i'm also allergic so they swell like a motherfucker if i itch them before they're 'done' the initial swelling #another camping trip i was bitten like 30 times already and a lady in the washroom asked me why i was in 2 layers #she was in a tank top and shorts and said that mosquitos haven't bothered her at all. she actually didn't know there were any #mosquito repellent forever would mean i get to go out in shorts and tshirt to be less hot AND also save me money #and potentially save me from cancer bc i have desperately resorted to harsher things that kill them if they touch me #rahh i hate mosquitos

#brandon sanderson #he's not normal haha; extremely productive and prolific #his website as a 'progress' meter for DIFFERENT SERIES he's working on #rantseur #i'm a fan of Sanderson and not everyone enjoys his prose; but my major criticism of Sanderson is #that i wish he allowed female friendships and relationships to last longer than a single book span. the girlies keep breaking up #spoilers #in Stormlight Archive there is a group of men who become an incredibly tight brotherhood built up over several books; love them #but the girlies keep breaking up; betraying each other; dying; AND/OR competitively side eye each other for some reason #there's a daughter and mother who just 'don't get along' and by book 4 they STILL hardly speak or like each other 'for some reason'#i haven't read Stormlight 5 bc based on this pattern I guessed what would happen to the two magic-science ladies in Stormlight 4 #and i hated to be right about them AND the sisters who disliked each other 'for some reason' got development after one is already dead #individually they're great stories; but NONE of them are given long time investment and series-spanning build up like Bridge Four bros #the magic science ladies are the star crossed platonic soulmates that rewired my brain; to be clear; i love that plot its special to me #but the tragedy of that one would hit different if there were other great stories of sisterhood that actually endured #idk if his recent books change this; but sisterhood and women-for-women plots are a blindspot that no one talks about
