(Older/Movie) Steven Universe x Reader
Summary: Reader meets Steven
“I’m so sorry!” he said standing above you his hand outstretched for you to take. It took a minute to process. You hesitated, then took the strangers hand. He pulled you back to your feet stuttering a string of apologies. He reached for the napkins from the counter and he carefully tried to clean up s much of the coffee now dripping from your shirt that he could. Just moments before you had paid for your sugary morning treat and coffee just to turn and walk face first into this person as he sprinted into the tiny donut shop. Next thing you knew you were here, listening to him ramble apologies while trying to clean the mess he made in his haste.
“At least he’s cute,” you thought to yourself as you watched him throw the wet napkins away. He kept on rambling his apologies, his doughy brown eyes full of worry and concern. He ran a hand through his dark curly hair before looking at you expectantly. Had he sked you something? Darn, you weren’t even listening.
“Are you ok?” he asked, picking up your fallen donut bag from the floor. You just nodded awkwardly as he handed it to you. You could tell just by the feel of it that your donut was ruined, you opened the bag to see that you were right. It was smushed into the far corner of the bag squished and mangled into an unrecognizable ball of sugary sadness.
He watched your expression turn from stunned to a pout. There went your breakfast. He panicked, “I’ll by you a new one,” he offered stepping up to the counter where the owner, a balding man stood sweeping and totally not watching the exchange that just happened.
“You don’t have to do that,” you said, finally finding your voice. Either he didn’t hear you or he ignored you as he ordered replacements for your treat and drink.
“Its only fair since I broke it that I pay to fix it,” he smiled pulling at the collar of his jacket.
You stood there awkwardly as you waited for the coffee to be done. After a moment of silence, he took deep breath and stuck out his hand.
“I’m Steven,” he said. You took his hand with a small smile.
“I’m Y/N, its nice to meet you,” you responded.
“You must be new to Beach City,” he thought aloud, “I’ve lived here my whole life and I’ve never seen you before.”
You nodded, “Yup, I’m visiting my aunt who lives in the next town over. Thought I’d stay here since its not far and the local hotel is way cheaper.”
“Here you go, Universe,” the shop worker handed the cup and bag to him who passed them both over to you.
“Thank you, Mr. Dewey, have a nice day!” the two of you began to make your way outside into the warm salty air.
“Universe?” You asked as he held the door for you.
“That’s my last name,” he explained, “kinda lame, I know. And to think I was almost named something cool like DeMayo.”
“Cool?” You laughed, “Universe is way cooler than DeMayo, any day.”
Steven smiled, “You really think so?”
He chuckled to himself, “Hey, since you’re new to Beach City, I thought…” he paused, nervously stuffing his hands in his jacket pockets, “I was wondering if you’d like a tour, like I could show you around.”
“I’d like that that,” you said. He smiled, an infectious, cheeky, boyish grin and you couldn’t help but smile back just as wide.
“Well? What are you waiting for?” You asked, “Lead the way, Mr. Universe.”
He laughed before leading you down the boardwalk towards the rest of Beach City.
