âAndy Manuel Herrera Reyes was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic on October 27, 2004 and two months after his birth, was diagnosed with a complex Congenital Heart Disease. Over the next 7 years, Andy would require two open heart surgeries.âAgain in 2011, Andy required what became his third surgery. The fourth and most recent surgery took place on September 14, 2017, in Cayman Islands.Â
After this surgery, it was found that his lung pressure was very high and his heart could not sustain without a machine called Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenator (ECMO). This machine offers necessary rest to the heart while it does the work as heart and lung. Â Although the ECMO represents a temporary solution, its prolonged use will adversely affect the functions of the other organs.Â
Currently, Andyâs doctors indicate that the only true solution for this case is a heart - lung transplant. Andy has been accepted into New York Presbyterianâs transplant program, but without the financing for his medical procedures, Andy will not be able to receive the care he needs. âAndy has fought tirelessly for months now, beating sepsis, kidney failure, irregular cardiac rhythm, and has beaten all the odds. Please help us help him.â
â114 days ago Andyâs heart stopped functioing, and was connected to the heart-lung machine and requires a heart transplant as soon as possible, otherwise we are gonna lose him. Andyâs family is a low income family, a poor family and does not have the monetary resources to pay for the required surgery. The surgery cost 1.3 million US dollars but we require right now only 60% of the cost which is about 800,000 US dollars, which we have only collected 350,000 US dollars. Without the rest of the money, Andy will not be accepted to the other hospital. It is long over due that Andy should have received his transplant but the money isnât there, and without the money the transplant is not possible.
Yesterday i talked with Andy, and his will, his stare, his smile, the strong will he shows and he doesnât even imagine what is happening to him right now. He doesnât know that if we donât collect this money he will die. I cannot imagine the pain he is feeling being there on that bed with all those tubes and it scares me. 54. What are some of your passions: Art consumes half of my life, itâs frustrating and makes a nervous wreck like me break down once a day butâs all worth it in the end. I love drawing to death. I also adore animation and try to doodle some of that whenever I can. Writing is a huge part of me as well, though I was struck by an aggressive writers block some years ago and never really gave myself the time to recover. the year 2017, however, has started with throwing tons of motivation at my face and now I work as much as I can to finally get back to writing.
Overall, I would say creating. Creating is my passion.
