themac-edwardsâ:
It had taken Mac a while to figure out what the hell had happened to him. Part of him was still hoping this was some mushroom induced lucid dreaming, but it was seeming more and more less likely. Which meant he was dead. Like the rest he had come here with. A ghost. He couldnât touch anything. It was a crushing feeling. No more crazy shit with his friends. No more girls. Well, he supposed, maybe ghost girls? He had no idea how any of this worked.Â
He spotted someone who looked like the werenât dead and waved to get their attention, âHey. Uh. What is this place?â
âSunnybrookeâ he told the other male, wondering if at the moment he was the only one around that could see him. âDonât worry, Iâm trying to figure out a way to get you all backâ he added before bringing the hand down by his side, up to his lips to take a puff off the joint in his grasp.
kara-murphyâ:
Kara shook her head more emphatically, closing the gap between them again to take his arms in her hands. âYouâre not worthless,â she said quickly. âOf course youâre not worthless. I-Iâll find some way to fix it. Iâll do whatever I have to. Just ⌠please. Please donât hate me. It was an accident. I never meantââ Her throat closed up, cutting her off as she just shook her head again.
âHate - hate you?â Kieran shook his head a little âI donât want to see you. I donât want to think about you, and I can only hope that I find a way to close the door before you die, that way when I take you there I donât ever have to see you again.â
kara-murphyâ:
Kara stared at him in shock. She knew he was mad, it was obvious that he was, but did he really mean that? He couldnât really mean that. She swallowed hard, shaking her head as she felt tears starting to sting the corners of her eyes.
âYou donât mean that,â she gasped out, the ache in her chest growing so strongly that she found it hard to breathe. âKie, please.â She reached for him, for his arm. âI didnât mean for it to happen. It was an accident.â
âNo, I do mean itâ he said, looking down as she reached for his arm. âIt was an accident that should have never happened. It was an accident that happened because you wouldnât listen to me. I canât even - I canât do my job right anymore. Itâs worthless. You made me worthless.â
kara-murphyâ:\
Kara recoiled, feeling as though heâd just punched her in the gut. Her chest ached horribly, and she pressed her hand against her sternum. âI didnât ⌠itâs not my fault that the lightning hit the circle in just the right way to-to make the door stuck. I didnât know that would happen, who-who couldâve known that would happen? It was a freak accident, Kieran, and I am sorry.â She didnât know what else to say.
"It wouldnât have mattered where the lightning struck if there wasnât a circle in the first place. So, yeah, this is your fault. How many times did I tell you to leave it alone? That we do our jobs because it has to be done. Donât get attached. You canât save people who are supposed to die, and you let them be when they have passed through the door to the other side. I donât want your sorry. I donât accept your sorry. Stay out of my life, and donât try to help. Youâve already done enough.â

kara-murphyâ:
Kara jerked her hand away as she heard him snap at her not to touch him. She bit her lip, her chest aching as he continued to yell at her. âI-I âŚâ She swallowed hard, shaking her head. âI didnât know this was going to happen, Kie. I didnât mean for it to happen.â
âExcuse me what was that? You didnât mean for it to happen? I told you - I told you to leave it alone.â he clenched his jaw, huffing out a breath through his nose. âbut you couldnât do that, could you? the door is stuck, Kar. I canât close - he canât close it. You ruined peopleâs after-lives, Kara. You ruined them because you are a selfish person that wanted to make yourself feel better.â
kara-murphyâ:
Kara had been worried when she got home after that night and Kieran was nowhere to be seen. Then as the ghosts arrived and grew in number and Kieran didnât reappear, she began to get the feeling that something was horribly wrong. She left the apartment to look for him, and thatâs when she saw him collapse in the middle of the street. She hurried forward.
âKie!â she exclaimed, dropping beside him and placing her hand on his back. âWhatâs wrong? What happened?â
âdonât touch meâ he snapped as he felt her hand on his back. âyou happened. you and that medium happened, Kara.â he pressed his fingers into the asphalt as if somehow if he pressed hard enough he could push them through it. âand donât even try to say youâre sorry. I donât want to hear it. I donât want to hear anything from you except for my name is Kara Murphy and Iâm a fucking idiot that only thinks about myself and making myself feel betterâ
railene-gâ:
She bobbed her head in acknowledgement and dropped her hand, âWe can go to my place I guess?â She laughed in an attempt to ease whatever tension she was feeling, âI actually still have the shit from the bar mitzvah. Havenât drank it since working at a bar comes with perks.â She shrugged.Â
âsounds perfect.â he nodded a little âlead the way, cause I donât know how to get to your place and more importantly to all that alcohol.â
railene-gâ:
Death. What? Railene shook her head to clear her thoughs and held a hand out if he needed it. âThatâs a statement I can get behind.â Rai took the subject change, it was something she could understand. âSo letâs do that.â
âI got itâ he said to the offered hand âgreat. letâs go drink.â he said starting to walk, before stopping, âwhere are we going exactly?â
thexclairvoyantâ:
âThe item adds a personal touch, Kieran. It enhances the chances of making contact with the spirit but does not guarantee they will actually speak to me,â corrected the medium firmly. âRest?! Rest?! The spirits of the citizens of this town havenât been able to rest long before I started to get involved. Why do you think they have been trying to contact us to begin with? They canât rest until we find out what happened to them!â
Growing flustered to the argument, Celine sighed and leaned back into her chair, arms crossed over her chest as she glanced back up towards Kieran to his mention of how Kara could not let this go. Running her hand over her face and through her somewhat white hair, Celine turned in her chair to face Kieran with hurt eyes. âKieranâŚI donât think Felix did it,â she cooed softly, shaking her head. âSomething does not add up. I canât tell you what it is but something in my gut tells me. And you are sitting her telling meâŚthat you donât hurt as much as Kara does with all of this? How much I hurt? The entire town? You are just sitting there telling me you arenât upset with how this all turned out at all?â
"You think the only ones who are coming back are just the people who died recently? The door is fucking stuck open. That means that people who died last week or a hundred years ago are coming back. I tried - I tried everything I could to close that door, but it is stuck and it is your fault.â he clenched his jaw âThat also means people who donât even know what this place is are going to wind up here. Who knows if they even remember that they diedâÂ
He reached for his mug, taking another drink of the tea. âSee, the thing is I canât afford to hurt. We are all going to die, Celine, and it isnât you or Kara that has to deal with that every time it happens when it comes to the part of the earth this hell hound resides over. She might feel it. You might speak to them in the afterlife, but Iâm the one who sees it. Iâm the one that has to assure them that where Iâm taking them theyâre going to be okay. I canât hurt because itâs my job.â

railene-gâ:
Railene watched from a careful distance until he spoke. She was spooked. This whole supernatural life was only getting worse and worse. Vaguely, in the back of her mind, she wondered if sheâd ever be numb to this weird shit.
As he spoke she moved slowly toward him. Who the hell was âshe?â âLeave what?â Was the question her mouth chose to speak.
âLeave things alone. Leave death aloneâ he started to push himself to stand again, taking a moment to steady himself. âI need a drink...or twentyâ he muttered to himselfÂ
thexclairvoyantâ:
Sighing to the inquiry as to whether she had something stronger, Celine remained silent as well as she watched Kieran push the bowl away to make his point. Letting Kieran get his point across, Celine leaned forward across the table to set her hands on top of the table. âAlright, now let me explain a few things to you. One: considering I did not have a personal item of Marigoldâs, she most likely wouldnât have come when I called her name. Two: there was no way Kara and I could have possibly foretold that lightning would blast down from the sky right in front of us. And three: neither of us had any idea that where Marigold died would let spirits roam free aimlessly throughout Sunnybrooke.â Leaning back into her chair, Celine crossed her arms.
âI would imagine too you would want to get to the bottom of why so many of us are dying here in Sunnybrooke. I cannot speak for Kara, but I personally will be damned if there wasnât something I could do to help us find out what is going on. So I am not going to sit here and apologize because your life is growing inconvenient when several of our citizens are dead.â
âIf you didnât have an item then why would you try to contact her? Just going to risk contact with any dead person? Real smartâ he took another drink of the tea, still wishing it was something stronger. âJust because you can conjure the dead and Kara feels when they die doesnât mean either of you know about what happens to those spirits when they die. I do. I take them where they are supposed to be at rest. Rest, Celine, but you donât care about that, do you?â
Kieran took in another breath, âYou really think this is entirely about an inconvenience to me? There are people being brought back who were at fucking peace. You want to play goddamn fucking detective? They already caught the guy. This wasnât about solving some murder mystery, it was about Kara not able to get over the fact that she couldnât save someone.â
thexclairvoyantâ:
Celine glanced up from her bowl to hear the sound of footsteps carrying someone down to the ground floor, smiling a little to see her treatment worked before glancing back down to eat more of the meal in her bowl. She watched Kieran sit down in the clothes she provided for him before scarfing down the food as she set hers down to cross her arms over her chest, observing his silence with a softened gaze.
âDid you want to talk about it?â she inquired gently.
He looked over at her for just a moment before picking up the cup of tea. âYou have anything stronger?â he asked ignoring her question for the moment. âYou - you want to talk about? Okayâ he pushed the bowl away from him, âLetâs talk about how you and Kara decided to conjure up the dead. Something neither of you should be doing. If the dead want to come to you, fine. Thatâs their business, but the dead are dead and at rest in whatever realm beyond they go to, and the two of you just fucked it up because Kara canât fucking deal with her job, and now - now-â he let out a laugh âand now you have both made my life and my job much more difficult.â
thexclairvoyantâ:
âAnd now it just got weirdâŚâ sighed Celine as she closed the door behind her to let Kieran have some privacy before retiring to the kitchen to prepare some food. Not wanting to make his stomach upset after whatever he had experienced when the medium found him, Celine had prepared an easy bowl of rice, eggs, and cheese all mixed together with a cup of fresh ginger tea. She had already started to work on eating her own food as Salem ate from his bowl in the corner.
Once she was gone, he finished undressing and got into the warm bath. He closed his eyes, trying to relax and think, but finding it hard to do either. Kieran remained in as long as he could, enough to at least let his muscles and joints feel better. After drying off and letting the water down the drain he dressed in the provided clothes and started back down to the kitchen. He didnât say anything as he sat down and immediately began to eat.Â
thexclairvoyantâ:
Nodding to Kieran mentioning it seemed like a good setup so far, the medium began to walk to the door as she grabbed the handle on the way out. âJust donât drown in the tub okay? Last thing I need is spirits telling me you drowned in a tub and you haunting me,â she elaborated, her voice growing quiet for a moment as she pondered on the situation regarding the spirits before clearing her throat. âIâll have food cooked for you by the time you are done.â
âI canât die...not yet at least.â there was no way the hell hound that possessed him would allow him to die before all of this was fixed. âGreat.â he nodded ânow get out so I can get naked without it being weirdâ

thexclairvoyantâ:
Back still turned to the hellhound, the medium continued to fill the water with a few various herbs as she turned off the water, using her hand to mix in the herbs thoroughly. âEpsom salts to reduce the ache in your joints, echinacea for wound disinfection and healing, chamomile for relaxation, and valerian root to promote relaxation as well,â explained Celine, drying her hand off on a spare hand towel before getting up to turn to face Kieran, her eyes narrowing to see the man already shirtless. âTowel is hanging there and there is a bell right here on the sink. If you ring it or I hear a firm thud, I will hurry up here to help. Sound good?â she inquired, hands sitting at her hips.
So much relaxation, it made him laugh a little. This was definitely a different kind of relaxation than what he was used to. As she dried her hand he made a mental note to do his own form of relaxing once he was out of there. âSounds greatâ he nodded, ready for her to leave so he could undress completely and get into the tub, the water actually starting to look nice.Â
Celine grunted as she helped hoist Kieran off of the chair and set one hand on his arm to hoist it over her shoulders again as the other set on his belt on the opposite side of his hip. Getting her bearings on holding his upper body and lower body in place, the medium began to direct Kieran up the stairs, taking one step at a time before reaching the second floor.
âOkay, bathroom is to the left,â she instructed, opening the door a little more for Kieran to have him lean against the sink. âAlright. I assume you donât need help getting undressed right?â she inquired, drawing water in the bath as she began to place epsom salts and a few other herbs into the water.
âI think I can manageâ he smirked a little, causing his eyes to narrow some as he nodded, his voice filled with sarcasm. âWhat is all that for?â he asked as he looked over into the water, and started to remove his shirt. Knowing full well not to completely get naked around someone without consent, but he could do what he could while she was still in the room.
