Like, I'm extremely lucky to live in a city and can like, have a really good night out for like... $16 USD (light rail fare there and back, plus local cheap burger chain eaten in a park). But like if I want to go anywhere involving a car I spend a ton of gas and parking etc etc. so I can totally see if you live in the right parts of America how you end up spending $60 on a night out. Money is freaking fake right now and I hate it.

Well it's not reasonable to toss an $80,000 car you already own and it is reasonable to want people to know you're not a Republican so, no, I actually don't think it's weird at all.

He talked about climate change and space nerd shit and acted like a progressive. He sold women self defense flamethrowers. He founded companies with punny names. He did guest spots on popular sitcoms. He was mentioned in an episode of Star Trek.
It's not weird for an upper middle class, vaguely leftist mainstream Democrat with a surface level understanding of Elon's views to have bought a Tesla and then gone "oh no" but also not wanna sell their $80,000 car at a $40,000 loss.
It's also not weird to want to be validated by the general public. This is mildly annoying human behavior but it's also damn near universal human behavior.
There is no ethical consumption under capitalism and it's normal to want to distance yourself from your past support of problematic figures.
(obligatory disclaimer not an american or driver of literally anything) I'm not a fan of a lot of the people in the notes with zero clue that
A. "common knowledge" is not common
B. Cars cost a LOT of money and require loans and you can't simply get a new one whenever you want
C. Just because someone was in a financial place to buy something expensive in 2017 doesn't mean they're automatically still well off???
anyone who knows me well is aware of the absurdity that i find myself defending owners of nazi cars but you have GOT TO stop threatening well meaning liberals with violence because you don't perceive them as having enough moral purity and don't understand enough about how the world works to get why 'just get a new one' doesn't work.
Also like, I'd rather have some driving a Nazi electric car that sell it to buy a car that polutes more. It's not like Tesla makes money on the car once it's sold and while Tesla's have a lot of issues, they are in fact reasonably ok EVs. As ever, there's nuance beyond "Tesla bad"

amtrak is fucked up because they made me think trains were a miserable experience and i hated them but one eurostar trip had me unironically saying "why fly anywhere we could take the eurostar?" yesterday
DO NOT DIS AMTRAK. YOU JUST GOTTA EMBRACE THE SUCK AND ALLOW YOURSELF TO ENJOY THE COMFY SEATS AND DECENT VIEW AND OCCASIONAL FREE WIFI. I've been riding Amtrak a bunch this year and the experience, and it's been shockingly good. American transit might might suck, but at least it's getting better, and might even manage to be on time!

when i was a tiny baby queer (aka a 24-year-old), i went to my first pride festival probably three months after i kicked ex-gay therapy to the curb and came out to my parents. being the people they are, my parents came with me. they weren’t really sure about this whole gay thing, but they loved me and wanted me to be safe and happy and wanted to be involved in what was important to me, so they came along. (i also think my mother still might have thought i might get drugged or murdered or beaten by a protester of which there were plenty.)
anyway i wanted a memento of my first pride, you know, and this one vendor was selling keyrings, and i liked it, so i bought one. do you remember those italian charm bracelets that were all the rage like 10-15 years ago? it was a keychain like that, and it had a rainbow rooster, a rainbow cat, and then just a rainbow, and so I bought it.
i run into my mom a couple of vendors over and she goes oh you bought something? what’d you get? so i showed her, and i was like, “I’m not sure why it’s a rooster and a cat. Seems kind of random. But I liked the rainbows.”
and my mom, who was some form of minister’s wife for most of my childhood and teenagerhood, stares at me like she thinks i’m joking.
“What?” i say.
“…it’s a cock and a pussy, Jules,” she says flatly, and that is the story of how i died at the age of 24 while attending my first pride festival.

I feel like where you used to live and where I live now has either gotten way more accepting of public kink or I just live in spaces where random trans people will just spawn in in minimal clothing and or collars now. (I've been hanging out in that one neighborhood with the one park near the police station that was very important in 2020)

I don't even know whose job it was to teach people this, but did they just stop teaching people what a bicycle bell means?
One would think that hearing a very distinct, clearly audible, reasonably loud and rapidly approaching sound of any kind would make any reasonable mammal turn to look at the direction of the sound, just purely by instinct?? If a deer heard something nearby go DING DING DING DING DING DING at its general direction, it would at least look up to see whether the source of the sound is a threat or not? Just a quick "is that something I need to be concerned about?" type of glance.
The enshittification of pedestrians has reached the point where they have less traffic survival skills than deer.
How exactly does one slow down and weave around pedestrians who are blocking the entire way in a formation in which it would be impossible to pass them even on foot without elbowing one or two?
