Maxwell walked through the halls of the palace with Bartie in tow heading for Liam’s study. They approached the door and knocked hearing Liam call for them to enter. “Hey, Li!”

Liam looked up and smiled. “Maxwell. And hello, Bartie,” Liam smiled.

“Hi, Uncle Liam!” Bartie ran over as Liam came from around his desk and crouched down giving him a high five.

“Bartie here has a very important question to ask you and I’m going to leave,” Maxwell grinned with wide eyes before hastily exiting the study.

Liam looked at the door curiously before turning to look at the 5 year old boy. “You want to ask me a question?”

“Yes,” Bartie nodded. “Uncle Max says you’re good at explaining things because you’re a King.”

“Well,” Liam chuckled leading him over to the sofa where he climbed on. “Ok. What’s on your mind, little man?” He asked as he went to sit.

“Where do babies come from?”

Liam ended up missing the sofa completely and landing on the floor, Bartie giggling behind him. His eyes were wide as he turned his head back looking at him. “Why...why do you want to know that?”

“Aunt Pam has a baby in her belly. I wanna know how it got there. Uncle Max says bees sting flowers. And that birds lay eggs. So I don't know if Aunt Pam is going to lay an egg or if a bee stung her.”

“Oh...uh...” Liam swallowed nervously. Fucking Maxwell. “Well...” he scratched his head. “Oh, I know!” He stood from the floor and walked to the shelf of books near his desk pulling out an encyclopedia. He opened it up and scanned the pages until he came to what he was looking for. “No. Nope. Much too graphic,” he shook his head as he put the book back.

He turned and looked at Bartie who was staring at him intently from the sofa before he turned and walked over to his desk sitting down and opened his laptop. He looked at his screen for a moment feeling flustered not paying much attention. Sex. He hit enter and a bunch of porn videos and images popped up, Liam panicking as he frantically clicked to close out the window and opened a new one. Having sex. More pictures and videos that were much too graphic popped up. He ran his hand over his reddening face as he closed out the window and again opened a new one. Explaining sex. Still not much better.

“Why are you turning so red, uncle Liam?”

“What?” Liam’s voice squeaked as he snapped his head over to him. He closed the laptop and came back over to Bartie.

“You’re all red...and your forehead is shiny,” Bartie pointed at Liam's face giggling.

“Oh, uh...I’m ok. So...about your question. Uncle Max was right. Aunt Pam got stung by a bee. But it wasn’t a regular bee...it was...a grumpy bee.”

“Like Uncle Drake? He's grumpy...”

Liam nodded with a smile. “Precisely, Bartie.”

“So where did the bee sting Aunt Pam? In the belly or somewhere else?”

I commissioned @pilitella​ way back in October for this piece of Liam and Croía from chapter 16 of Vancross. At the time, I hadn’t written the scene, and only bits and pieces were in my head. I had no idea what exactly it was that I wanted as far as the commission, only that I wanted the beginning of this pivotal moment for these two to shine through. So, I explained where they would be, what would be happening leading up to this moment, and what would be happening afterward. I then gave her free rein to come up with what she could to show what I was unable to really express or convey at the time.

And in true @pilitella​ fashion, she absolutely nailed it and blew me away 🥲
