The immune system is such a good metaphor for character boundaries. its job is to recognize self from not-self, safe from threat. characters do this socially too. who belongs? who is dangerous? what intimacy feels like invasion? what criticism feels like infection? a person with bad boundary history may attack kindness like it’s a pathogen. tragic, but useful.
