What made the ancient norse think that a ship was being built out of dead people's finger nails?
What freak was digging up graves and snatching nails?
Me: Norse mythology has no real canon. It was shared verbally and so severely fucked with when it was finally written down. Really there is no right or wrong and all versions and interpretations are mostly valid. The myths we have now might be bs, we don't know, so fuck it!
Also me when there's a slight variation or something is off in an adaptation: no, that's not right. This feels like a crime to read, fix it now.
(wanting to make a post about something but it reveals too much about your personal life) i have had a negative experience

I love the midwest so much
Oh how I missed the rain
Do you ever worry about the deities who aren't widely worshipped?
Or even really spoken about much?
The ones who fall to time?
Or do you think that a God never truly dies but only sleeps?
And that, some day, if someone finds them then they can be worshipped and brought to life once more?

Why does Frigg get no attention?
She's queen of the Æsir and is stated to be just as important and wise as Odin, sometimes she even outwits him.
She holds a pretty important place but she's just... ignored.
I personally am not close with her but she still has a spot on my altar beside Odin and she gets offerings on special days because I wanna let her know I know
"–Odin turned into an eagle and fled, his belly full of stolen mead. Suttungr furiously did the same, giving chase to the wiley Wanderer. When the other Æsir saw Odin returning they rushed to find anything they could use to catch the precious drops of gold falling from his beak.
For this was no ordinary mead. It was the Mead of Poetry, brewed from Bragi's blood and honeyed tongue. It was so precious that they even collected the drops that fell from Odin's other end when Suttungr's speed startled him.
This was called "skáldfífla hlutr", the "rhymester's share". It was reserved for lesser skalds and scholars. Those who wrote cruder verses–what could be called today "shit-posting"."
So Frigg asks a favor of one of the dwarves and he's like "yeah I'll do it, but only if you smile at me"
Most reasonable and normal negotiation in mythology
"Fulla, who was always ready to serve her mistress, immediately departed, and soon returned, accompanied by a hideous dwarf, who promised to prevent the statue from speaking if Frigga would only deign to smile graciously upon him."

So when the berserkers go into a confrontational fit of blind rage, they're blessed by Odin

"It is clear that from such an array of sources... no coherent account of Norse mythology can be extracted, and, indeed, there is no reason to assume that the myths seek to express a single, orthodox belief."
