The Skeksis, the Mystics, and Aughra all have really lovely personalities and characterization that is enjoyable to watch. They're exciting characters that feel like they mean something and aren't just "puppets."

But Jen,,, is very clearly a puppet. Both literally and narratively. So far he just does whatever he is told and has no real drive or motivation of his own. And he seems like a far more wooden character than the others. His voice acting isn't that engaging and even his body language and puppeteering behind that—while still impressive—doesn't evoke the same level of character depth that the other characters have.

Idk, perhaps a part of it has to do with his face. Gelflings appear the most human so perhaps because he is clearly no human while still having similar human structures that we typically use to connect with characters makes it harder for me to connect with him rather than the other non-human characters who bear no resemblance to humans.

i just realized that Aughra is gonna try to help the gelflings like she tried to help the skeksis and she’s going to see them obliterated.  no wonder she’s cranky when Jen eventually comes along
