not surprised, but very very sad all the same.

what happened to me
I had a collapse and hospital stay from takotsubo cardiomyopathy so I am all the way back on my bullshit, heart-art-wise.
I've been meaning to try some cyanotypes at a burn for awhile. I did these by just leaving them resting under ferns in sunny spots, much less controlled than the regular method. I think the righthand one has some intentional double exposure.

Harvard alumni weekend overlapping Boston Pride feels like a weird choice.
I've opened a shop. Come take a look!

I forget if I showed the beautiful Tyrian purple that they made in the synthesis chemistry lab that I collaborated with at the art museum. Theyβve been synthesizing mostly blue pigments and dyes from throughout history. This was my first time seeing Tyrian purple in person and I was so excited!
Historically it was made from murex snails and was hugely expensive and used by royalty, but chemically itβs similar to indigo so the class was able to create it in the lab without snails.
Happy birthday to Josephine Baker, born on 3 June in 1906. Josephine was bi, making this a perfect day to celebrate some her and some other Black queer figures from history during Pride month!

pursuant to previous post, I'm putting together a larp character for an age-of-sail- era game set in a particular fantasy world, and I've made myself a setting appropriate watercolor set, including trying for something like an historically accurate color palette, mostly approximated with what's available in modern/synthetic versions because I'm crazy but only so much.
On the other hand, I've had some earth pigments and gum arabic for awhile, I've been wanting to try mixing my own paint and this finally gave me enough of a reason. I made up some burnt sienna today, and it was extremely satisfying.

Having a craving to watch a specific kind of television that probably doesn't exist ... has there ever been a show that's like Tudor Monastery Farm x Secrets of the Dead but where every episode focuses on an artist at some point in history and deep dives into the pigments in their palette? It would get repetitive real quick but still, I would watch the shit out of something like that.
