Daphne tried to contain her giggles as Ragmar shouted a bit to loud about his success. They were in the middle of class and the professor didn’t seem too happy about the commotion. Daphne was content knowing she made someone smile, but she held up her finger to quite down.

Ragmar covered his mouth and looked over back at Daphne. He got up and sat down next to her, “Thank you. I tried, that was fun, killing creatures.”

“I think as long a yo keep them involved in your studies, make sure they know what you’re learning and all, they’ll be alright with it in the end. My mum wants me to write home weekly to let them know what I’ve learned.”

“I think that’s what I’ll end up doing. I just want them to be okay with myself, I don’t think they’ve accepted the fact I’m a wizard yet.”

“That is the way it seems, isn’t it? Is it overwhelming?”

“A little bit. It’s a whole different world.”

“Well, no, that’s what so surprising about you. You look just like one of us. Mother always said I would be able to tell you apart from us just from looking, I didn’t know… It’s odd.”

“So, you’re fascinated by me? I don’t think we look any different. I wouldn’t be able to tell either one apart.”

“I’m not too into the whole…flying idea. I don’t know why Slytherin chose me. I’m more of an information man, myself. I know how to fly. I just. Cannot do it in practice.”

“I can barely do any magic. Flying is about ten levels above what I am, I’ll be lucky enough not to crash. Good luck, though.”

Daphne bad about Ragmar’s drop in mood. She felt as if it was her fault. The young witch looked around the room and spotted another spider on the front of the professors desk. “Try it on that one then” she said, pointing the sipder.

He looked towards the spider, and crawled over towards it. He let his hands lift up the spider, and tried to pull of its legs. It worked, and he smiled big. Ragmar looked behind him, “I did it again!”

“That’s sweet. They will be fine, though. Just let yourself enjoy the opportunity here.”

“That’s what I try to do, it’s just difficult. I worry about them so much.”

“So are they wizards as well?”

“No, I’m the only one in my family.”

“You’re one of Ms Hufflepuff’s then?” Gem asked with a small smile. “Gryffindor found me out in the woods… I kind of wish that was a joke.”

“Yeah I am,” he nodded, “Why were you out in the woods?”

“I don’t think my mom would believe me if I told her.”

“My parent’s would love to hear about it. My siblings would love to hear about the stories. They would love it here.”

“Are you like me then?” She tiled her head slightly. “Are you parents non-magical too?” Everyone she had met so far, to her knowledge at least, had magical parentage.

“Yeah, my parent’s only know as much as I know. And I know just about nothing. I didn’t even know I was a wizard until Helga Hufflepuff contacted me.”

“Have I said anything to offend you?”

“No, I just assumed, because you have already learned how to do magic. It seems like the clueless ones are like me.”

“Of course they will. You seem like a bit of a worrier.”

“A little bit. Only for my siblings, though. And my friends. But mostly my siblings.”

“You’re a pureblood, aren’t you?”

“According to my mother, your type don’t look like us. You look simpler. Not as proper. Not as pure.”

“Do I look less than you do? I don’t know what defines simpler.”

Daphne laughed at the joke the boy made “Well you don’t know unless you try” she replied in a honey sweat tone “Besides, I think it’s an ugly vase.” She turned towards the vase once more and made her own attempt, but the vase only wiggled in it’s place. 

He looked over at the vase, and back at her. “I don’t really want to destroy it, I mean it’s not doing anything, and I probably couldn’t do much to it anyway.” Ragmar sighed and looked down at the floor.
