his mouth fell open, parting with feigned hurt and mostly laughter. âhey, i am not an ass kisser, just ask my friend who wanted the picture. she has some not-nice words for me and she doesnât even know who i am.â chris garnished his snetence with a glance in the direction the other girl had headed and a lighthearted chuckle. ânah, we donât have a set. iâm just here to hang, support some friends, that kind of stuff. you?â
she followed his eyes with a half grin, he didnât need to be praised for shutting down someone that should already know better but she was silently appreciative that he did. â same deal. got an offer but me and music festivalâs, donât really... mesh. at least not on stage. i appreciate them from afar with a drink in my hand, much better that way. and i lost my friends âbout two hours back and walked about... four thousand miles around this place in the meantime. whereâs the rest of yâall ? donât you band guys usually stay in a flock. â
christicnkcllcy:
chrisâ soft grin faded into a chuckle, eyes glazing over her facial features. âoh iâm extremely thankful for this,â the boy paused, looking around at all of the festivities and the sound of a crowd cheering on another performance, probably from one of his friends. âiâm thankful for it every day. i canât imagine myself not being involved in music or performing. didnât shakespeare say something about all of the world being a stage, or something like that?â
he sounded far too sincere for her buzz, even with his soft chuckle. as you like it, some foggy part of her senior literature class in high school reminded her. the play was certainly not one of her favourites. â jeez, goinâ in hard with billy shakespeare, huh ? iâd tell you no one likes an ass kisser but twitter would disagree. â she smiled, pulling another sip of her beer before continuing. â are you playinâ this weekend ? â
Youâve got the words to change a nation but youâre biting your tongue,
Youâve spent a life time stuck in silence, afraid youâll say something wrong,
If no one ever hears it, how weâre gonna learn your song?Â
****
Youâve got a heart as loud as lions
So why let your voice be tamed?
Baby weâre a little different, thereâs no need to be ashamed
Youâve got the light to fight the shadows, so stop hiding it away
christicnkcllcy:
âsomeone just told me they wonât be buying my next album because i wouldnât take a picture with them. guess itâs a good thing iâm the lead singer for afterparty and not âthe guy from that boybandâ like they thought i was.â
âoh shit, how were you gonna survive ? youâre lucky there was a mix up or,â rae ran her finger across her throat with a serious gaze before crumbling away to a grin. â wouldâa been curtains for your career. â rae understood better than most what it was like to not want someone taking a picture of you, though she was sure they had very different reasons. â with the narrow avoidance of burying your wealth with one declined photo, have you come out the otherside more thankful for what you got ? â she joked lightly.
will you recognize me in those flashing lights? i try to keep my heartbeat but I can't get it right.
will you recognize me when I'm lying on my back? somethings gone inside me and I can't get it back.
oh heaven, oh heaven, i wake with good intentions. but the day, it always lasts too long.

Roses - James Arthur &Â Emeli SandĂŠ
Iâve a weakness for roses, for rose scents - Diptyque's L'Ombre dans L'eau and the simpler, somewhat more synthetic Eau Rose, Annick Goutal's Rose Splendide. Extremely excited that Iâm finally going to be able to smell Shiseido's White Rose Natural, and hopefully bring it back with me.Â
The synthetic roses, of chemicals and alcohol, that replace the transient petals, the same synthetics that remind me of the things that are okay amidst everything else that isnât.Â

ezra breathed the salty filled air and took in the muffled voices that sang off the stage as he barely hung onto his beer bottle. he swished the liquid inside the bottle from side to side before looking up to rae. the boy grinned, bursting out laughing just at the thought of rae throwing up on stage, âoohâ that would be a pr nightmare,â he continued to laugh before taking a sip of his beer.  âmm, i couldâ but iâd rather stay out here,â ezra looked over at his friend, âpeople get crazy up there.â the boy thought back to the time he would go up to the barriers, it was fun until he got a bloody nose. he shook his head, realizing that probably wouldnât be happening during lily caineâs performance.Â
âiâm goinâ up there tomorrow though,â he smiled, reluctant to be performing at the festival. truely, he was really excited to perform at this festival. he loved the rush he got from being on stage, the lights fluttering everywhere and the voices from the crowd singing along. it brought a smile to his face just from thinking about it. the boy quickly snapped out of it as he took another sip of his beer. Â
she couldnât help but reluctantly join in on his laughter. it was a comforting sound. â oh, thatâs funny to you, huh? me, barfing on stage. well, jokes on you, i havenât done that since i was six. â she teased, picking up her gin and tonic with careful fingers as she brought it to her lips. her head was fuzzy and her stomach was aching, but the outfit she was in today was likely to give her a baby bump if she ingested so much as a strawberry so sheâd opted for sporadic alcohol consumption. â you just gotta out crazy them, chew up some alka seltzer and froth at the mouth or somethinâ. see how many people wanna listen to toxic next to someone with rabies. â she said with an unabashed confidence, like her advice was foolproof.
â you are? â she asked, mildly surprised. rae wished she could feel comfortable enough to do that. in the past, when she was on stage it all melted away and her voice was all she could focus on. lately? the spotlight never burned so hard. never showed so much of her. never made her feel more like she was being scrutinized. she missed performing more than anything, but she couldnât imagine the next time sheâd actually be on stage.
scwyerd:
sawyer hadnât realized who sheâd been sitting across from until she spoke, her nose to busy buried in her phone, but when rae did speak she had the sudden urge to get up and run. thankfully, she was pretty drunk already otherwise this would be even worse than it was already going to be, âyeah, i totally get it. me and the girls arenât performing this year or anything, so, but if we were iâd be a lot more sober right now.â she replied in a quiet voice, bringing her drink back to her lips. she glanced around for a place to flee if necessaryÂ
rae really didnât want things to be uncomfortable but this sort of coolness came with the territory. she didnât have many exes, truthfully she was sitting across from one of two, but she wished that her life could play like an after-school special where the âwe can be friendsâ schtick actually landed. the look on sawyerâs face said it all. raeâs attempt to break the ice was more like sheâd taken a jackhammer to a frozen lake sheâd been standing square in the middle of. â itâs a shame you guys arenât, definitely wouldâve improved the line-up. â she began to overanalyze her compliment. did it sound too flirty? too indifferent? this sucked. â you know, i- â she faltered, having nothing to really say. she was no expert on how to straddle the line of comfortable small talk, least of all with her ex. â you look good. â she offered.
greyhtml:
ezra kept quiet as the brunette spoke, looking over in the distance at the busy stage. lights flashed every other second as the bass seemed to tremble the ground beneath his feet. at this point in the festival ezra was sacked out under the tents with his shoes off, to feel the realness that was the grass below his feet. âMmm,â he agreed nodding his head slowly before glancing over at the many intoxicated bodies in the distance, dancing and yelling. âyeah, i canât imagine doing that,â he spoke softly to his friend, knowing that heâs probably done it before. nothing close to hardcore drugs, but probably after a few shots of alcohol. it wasnât as bad, right? he looked back at rae and finally cracked a smile at her silly joke, which was something that he loved so much about her. Â
ezra seemed to be enjoying himself, in his own pensive way. rae could appreciate that, being quiet was a talent that she herself hadnât totally mastered. â if i tried, iâd be pullinâ a full mimi and hurlinâ on the stage, i promise you that. â she grinned, leaning back a little to arch her back in a stretch. sheâd never even been to a festival before sheâd appeared in one and now look at her, sprawled out like someone important. â i hate how many people are out there, but iâm going straight in there day three. no crowd is stoppinâ me from seeinâ lily caine perform. â she rambled, practically thrumming with anticipation. â what about you? you got the guts to get in there? â

vivi scratched the back of her head, not sure if rae had been talking about her, because if that was the case she needs to be more discreet. âthatâs crazy, who would ever do such a thing?â she asked innocently as she hit the blunt sitting between her fingers. âiâm not sure what perish means, but i mean, i find myself with a lot of energy when i smoke.â she admitted offering it to rae. âbut it also depends on the scene iâm in and the goal iâm trying to reach for the night because if iâm straight up chilling then i would also, straight up perish, whatever that means.â
â perish, you know... die. â rae added, slightly uncomfortable with herself. it wasnât uncommon for people to not get what the hell she was talking about. â canât relate on that. i have two hits and iâm as good as vegetated for the restâa the night. â she smiled, taking the blunt with a soft thanks, pulling a hard drag and passing it back before she exhaled. â i admire the diversity. weed does not give a shit about my goals of the night. â
rae looked off in the direction of the stage with a glossy expression, trying to focus on all the lights smearing. â today, i have watched people snortinâ lines of kâ and gettinâ on stage forty minutes later like nothinâ happened. i donât know whether to be concerned of impressed. â she mumbled, happy to have one of the limited seats available under the bustling cover. she looked across the worlds tiniest table, you know, the sort where you could fit two drinks and some pocket lint if you were lucky, with a soft smile. â chain smokinâ blunts all day and then gettinâ up there ? my god. if my life depended on me gettinâ out of this chair and tyinâ my shoes right now, i would straight up perish. â
